I'm currently enjoying Hunter X Hunter, about half way through and I'm digging it so far. I've obviously watched the big 3 anime's all the way through, Naruto, bleach, and one piece.. also Fairy Tail is pretty damn epic, along with Soul Eater and Seven Deadly Sins. Can't think of any others I've really enjoyed off the top of my head.. :P

maximus_asinus 11-09-2017 06:02 AM

I really want to like anime, but I'm pretty picky. Can I get some recommendations?

For examples of what anime I've watched and genuinely liked: Tokyo Ghoul. Cowboy Beebop. Castlevania. One Punch Man. Gurren Lagann. Elfen Lied. School-Live. Steins-Gate. And the Fate series. Oh and Dragonball, and Dragonball Z as a kid.

For actual television: Firefly. Battlestar Galactica. The Office. The Expanse. Game of Thrones. Stranger Things. Most of the Marvel Netflix stuff. Arrested Development. And Breaking Bad.

I also watched parts of SAO and I did enjoy parts of it. Mostly the premise. Same with Hellsing Ultimate. Tried watching Fullmetal Alchemist but I don't really have the patience or time to watch these 50 - 60 episode shows so I lost interest.

I am a fan of the fantasy genre. If there can be a bit of tasteful romance that is a positive (no harems). I like my anime to be serious OR funny but generally not both. Obviously needs a well written story. I do prefer dubs over subs but it isn't required. Oh, and not a real huge fan of Gundam stuff.

EDIT: Include Btooom! and Attack on Titan. Somehow forgot them on my list. I guess I have watched a lot of anime over the years.

Pretty much everything you've listed ive watched so we have a pretty familiar taste. I'd recommend one of my favourites which was Parasyte. Just a great 12 ep anime that i thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Even got non anime watching friends hooked onto it after showing them the first ep. :D let me know what u think of it!

Maximus you should check out these:
- Re:zero
A guy gets reborn into a fantasy world and he tries to save people from their deaths.
- Konosuba
A guy gets reborn in a rpg like fantasy world and goes on adventures with some idiotic girls (one of the funniest animes ever imo).
- Re:creators
Anime characters start appearing into the “real” world and it causes major problems.
- Bungou stray dogs
Some guy has super powers and joins an orginization of people who have powers aswell.
- Boku no hero academia
Guy with no “quirk”(superpower) in a world full of people with quirks meets his idol and becomes useful.
- Mob psycho 100
From the same creators as one punch man, one guy is an overpowered psychic but is working for some guy who just pretends to be the most powerful psychic.
- Grimoire of Zero
A witch tried to save the world with a bear-man as sidekick after other magic users try to start a massive war.
- Highschool DxD
A guy meets vampires with big boobs, becomes a vampire too and fights a lot with bad “people”(Lots of ecchi but interesting story nonetheless).
Season 4 coming in 2018 aswell.

I added small summaries that mostly avoid spoilers but say enough to know what it’s about I guess

Holy **** this is what would happen if you got Hideo Kojima and Neill Blomkamp to create an anime movie together.

Black Clover in a nutshell.

Thought it was gonna get better after the first 3 episodes but...
Spoiler
it just made me more dissapointed.
At the test Asta has some huge power-up moment and launches at the guy with the bubble thing making the bricks fly from underneath his feet to show how powerful the attack is going to be.
He then hits through the bubble and hits the guy.
Yet the hit is more like he softly poked him with his sword? There's no visual effect of the ground underneath him breaking apart and not even a proper sound effect yet the guy is fully KO?
Really felt like a half-assed scene that was supposed to be the huge comeback of the protagonist but pretty much failed to get the point across.

The saddest part is that in the next episode it's back to that cancerous screaming the entire time.

Why are people hyping up this ******ed show?

Seriously, this season we got Mahoutsukai no Yome, Inuyashiki, Kekkai Sensen S2 and Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World yet people still chose to listen to Asta's autistic screeching.

This is pretty much me whenever I watch this show.

Lmao but im kinda liking it (not because of the pilot positioning) the artstyle also reminds me of Kill la Kill which is created by the same studio. 2 episodes are good so far..

anyone seen Devilman Crybaby? It's amazing except for the final episode

Zetectic 01-24-2018 03:48 AM

I was recommended to watch a film called "Aachi And Ssipak" by a friend. (He thought I'd know cause I'm Korean..)
It's made in 2006. The original script came from flash animation. (It was really popular in early 2000s)
The film is pretty disgusting, brutal and funny. The entire movie is full of actions. Worth watching IMO

After watching this movie, my curiosity about Koreans not jumping into anime industry got larger. I don't know why they're into webtoons, drama, but not animations.
Korean people used to work for Japan and Disney copying those motion flow frames. (Long time ago)

Cutieno 01-24-2018 10:50 AM

My boyfreind and I currently binge watch anime together, Ill list and mention what anime's I enjoy the most. One of the most recent anime's we finished that he chose was My Hero Academia, I found myself enjoying the series quite a bit which may be evident by my guild which is actually a reference to season 2 of My Hero:
https://i.imgur.com/HOPOQIS.gif
Over all its a nice anime, I quite enjoyed it and had a good laugh. Although serious at times, I'm desperately waiting for season 3 to come out this year, I'm tempted to get the Manga. Props to the OST as well it's amazing, I get opening 1 stuck in my head a lot.

I highly recommend Seven Deadly Sins as well, a quite funny enjoyable anime, although there is a lot of more inappropriate jokes, I found myself having a good laugh and getting quite invested in the universe, I'd buy the manga but there is around 20+ editions and I like the have the physical copy of manga's. Also great OST!

Parasyte is amazing the art style and concept, although gory it's amazing, similar humor to Seven Deadly Sins, but a lot more serious tone, quite a blunt series. I quite liked it, as before AMAZING OST!

Finally we have Beyond the Boundary, super cute story. I need to watch the movie, but haven't gotten around to it, I plan on forcing my boyfriend to watch Beyond the Boundary with me then him and I both watch the movie, I adore the OST so much, it's unhealthy how much I listen to these OST's.

I would've gone in more depth but Id rather not spoil these amazing series, they're best experienced blind. - I'm also lazy and wanted to make a quick post mentioning my favorite animoo's.

Fuchsia 03-22-2018 07:13 AM

I finished a series called Tsuritama last night. It wasn't the most serious of series, in fact it was quite crazy most of the time, but I still had alot of fun with it. I recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted series.

GlazeyB 03-25-2018 03:35 PM

The season of 3's is upon us.

5hift 03-25-2018 06:45 PM

Junji Ito Collection

Violet Evergarden

Darling of the FranXX

Mahoutsukai no Yome

Garutias 03-25-2018 09:43 PM

Anime’s I Recommend:
One Piece
Fate Stay Night
Attack on Titan
Your Name/Kimi no na wa
Seven deadly Sins
Sword Art Online

If you guys are into more emotional ones watch
Howls Moving Castle
Totoro
Spirited Away
^^^ These ones are masterpieces.

Wolfie 03-25-2018 11:16 PM

Since we're all seems to be recommending anime, I guess I'll drop a few.

The Garden of Sinners - 7 movies series+2 OVAs and an epilogue, animated by Ufotable and soundtrack composed by Yuki Kajiura and songs by Kalafina. It is my favorite series within the Nasuverse. (Nasuverse includes Tsukihime, Fate, Garden of Sinners, and many more, but that was just a few.)
I highly recommend it as it not only has beautifully animated fight scenes and great soundtracks, but also dives a lot into philosophy and ontology. Definitely not a series for everyone if you dislike a lot of dialogues, but the stunning visuals and stellar music should still keep you hooked. Follows the story of Ryougi Shiki, a girl who unlocked the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception after a fatal accident who later goes on to deal with supernatural cases as an investigator.

A Silent Voice - Done by Kyoto Animation. Great movie. It follows the story of a boy who used to bully this deaf girl back in elementary and made her moved school. After that ordeal, he became the target for bullying and realized what he caused the girl to go through until a few years later, the boy finally met the girl again and wants to start over and be her friend.
Definitely an emotional ride. Everyone should watch it.

Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel - Pressage Flower (Blu-rays and DvDs are releasing in May.) - Part one of the 3 movies trilogy for the final route of the Fate/Stay Night series. Animated by Ufotable soundtracks by Yuki Kajiura. Out of all the 3 Fate/Stay Night routes, (Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel) this is the darkest. This route focuses more on Sakura Matou and what went on throughout her entire life. Still having the traditional Holy Grail War that all Fate series has, this takes a dark turn and reveals many secrets about the Grail and what it truly is.
Currently, only 1 out of 3 movies has been shown in theaters, with the first movie getting a blu-ray/dvd release soon in May and the second movie is coming to theaters later this year.
I have seen the first movie, and it was worth it. So definitely keep a lookout in May if you're interested.
-Recommended to at see Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works first before watching. Fate/Zero can be watched either before or after.

No Game No Life: Zero - Animated by studio Madhouse. Takes place 6000 years before No Game No Life when Disboard was raged with war. This movie shows how the world which used to rage in the flames of war and the dark sky of hopelessness turned into the bright world where everything is solved through games today.
-Recommended if you liked No Game No Life.

Here are some you should check out but I'm too lazy to type out its details:
Violet Evergarden
Gunslinger Girl
Certain Magical Index
Steins;Gate
Hyouka
Hibike Euphonium

Nah 3D anime sucks.

Been watching ping pong the animation by masaaki yuasa who's the anime equivalent to Wes Anderson. He's the mastermind behind the tatami galaxy or more recently devilman cry baby definitely recommend any of his work if you're interested in visualy unique work.

Mushi shi's another Show Iv'e been watching that breaks the anime mould. Tells some grear humble episodic storys that has some real philisophical weight to it. Definitely worth the watch if you want to try something slower paced.

There is a season 3? I watched season 1 and thought it was pretty decent. I waited for season 2, but was told the finale was pretty lackluster and not worth the time. Maybe I'll watch it now that there is a 3rd season.

No point in watching season 2 it was scrapped for being trash. Season 3 leaves off after season 1 season 2 is irrelevant
