The game itself has gotten better, Gen V actually offered a different story line, yet people call the whole gen bad because they don't like 1-3 pokemon.

Gen 5 or Gen 4 are probably the best competitively. Not enough variety in ADV. But in-game, my favorite was probably Gen 3.
