U-Turn is for momentum, basically just to do extra damage and switch out.

I guess I'll stick with it then. I'm trying to get a 5-6IV Shiny Adamant Scolipede with Extreme Speed. I think I should stop being picky though and just look for a normal non-shiny one or breed it myself. Someone gave me a Shiny Adamant 6IV Ditto once so I might as well make use of it for breeding.

Yeah, I feel like U-Turn is a waste though. Is there anything better to replace it with?

U-turn Greninja works great for a lead, even with full investment into SpA and none into Atk. Greninja forces a lot of switches, and once they switch when you U-turn you open up a free matchup of whatever you'd like. Usually love these opportunities for setting up DD, SD, CM, Nasty Plot or whatever. I'd suggest full SpA, full Spe with either Timid or Modest, and then three good Special moves like Ice Beam, Dark Pulse, Surf, Extrasensory, whatever you need + U-turn. Or if you don't really like the U-turn (I never did) you can have a fourth coverage slot which gives great coverage. Water Shuriken is pretty meh since Greninja is already extremely fast and is more suited for Special sets.

Oh and if you want a hard counter to Mawile, Infernape can tank its Sucker Punch easily and KO back with Flare Blitz or Fire Blast. Infernape is really strong against a lot of top-usage threats, I don't know why he's not being used too much.

Scolipede works really really well as a Baton Pass lead. Just set up a Sub, Swords Dance, then pass it on to someone who wrecks **** after an SD like Haxorus, Bisharp or Hawlucha.

Damn lol. I still have a lot to learn. I'd say the only thing I actually like about U-Turn is being able to launch an attack before switching my Pokemon, but it hardly does any damage anyways even to water types. It also sucks since he has protean that once he's immediately turned into a grass type then he's switched out. Luckily my Greninja is built like you suggested nature and stat wise. I got a really good deal on him.

I'd probably use Infernape if I didn't hate fire types so much. They look really cool, but I feel like since I prefer water types that it would be weird. I tried so hard to get a really good Shiny Jollu Rapidash only to find out that it sucks for competitive battles.

I'll try that and see how it goes with Scolipede (once I get him that is).

Talon 04-09-2014 04:49 PM

Rapidash isn't *awful* as long as you go 252 Atk / 252 Spe and spam Flare Blitz... But Talonflame Smogonbird does that better. Bulky physical ground types like Gliscor or Landorus-T also wreck Mawile. If you're good at mind games, you can set up Swords Dance or Sub on someone like Smogonbird or Bisharp and out-priority Mawile.

*brain malfunctions*

*GPS voice*: Recalculating.

Okay! So... Sub is for substitute right? What exactly does that move do again?

You sac 25% of your HP and then a little doll comes up to take damage for you until it dies. So as long as the sub is there, you can't take damage unless its a move that hits twice. You also can't be hit by status like Toxic or Will-O-Wisp as long as the sub is up. But if a damaging move would do 25% to the sub, the sub breaks.

It's basically a meat shield for 25% of HP which is good to set up when you force a switch by threatening a KO, like switching in Smogonbird against Breloom.

Gotcha, gotcha. I finally can switch out my Staraptor with a Talonflame. This guild was giving away a **** load of battle ready shiny Talonflames. I got a 5IV Adamant one from it so I'm happy.

CB Reckless Angry Bird and Smogonbird actually make a really powerful core together. Angry Bird has the second strongest attack in OU bar CB Kyu-B's Outrage with its Reckless-boosted Brave Bird and Double-Edge. Angry Bird's STABs alone OHKO pretty much anything that doesn't resist them except Slowbro. It's really good at destroying Smogonbird's counters like Heatran, Rotom-W and Tyranitar so Smogonbird can reign free and kill everything else.

I made a team based around the Angry Bird/Smogonbird core and it got me to 1700ish when I used it, before the Life Orb Aegislash set and Lando-T gained popularity.

On a side note, does anyone know if Mystic Water works as a hold item online?

Talon 04-10-2014 02:50 AM

It should, but if it doesn't, Splash Plate is an alternative that does the same thing.

also, I love hyper-offense: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-108050400

It's hard to tell if it does or not. I just played two online battles with Greninja, Scolipede, and Tyranitar and won both so far. I hate when people use legendaries online though. Soem guy used a Rayquaza.

Talon 04-10-2014 03:02 AM

I thought certain Pokemon weren't allowed online, wtf thats op

I know :(! I'm doing free battle though so maybe that's why. Rating battles probably don't allow it, but I'm not signed up because I need practice since I'm an amateur. I feel so powerful right now though. I won 4 battles straight. The fourth guy was a Japanese guy who forfeited because my Scolipede's speed was insane and could counter his Mawile, Ninetales, and whatever that last grass Pokemon was. I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of this.

EDIT: Someone disconnected on me </3

EDIT 2: Had this amazing battle with this one guy. He had this Turpuff tank and it was the most annoying ass thing, but in the end it was my sandstream from my Tyranitar that killed me. I might have had a chance if it didn't.
