Gimp: Open image, add transparency alpha channel in Layer>Transparency, then use the magic wand selection tool to select the background and press delete on your keyboard. Export as normal.

Sorry, not on PC now. You have to apply the add transparency to all layers I think. Should be easy.

On gimp when making gif you have to write (replace) in the name and (10ms) to change how fast and all that stuffy stuff stuff sstuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuff

make sure (replace) is at the very end of each frame on GIMP. It's a pain in the ass sometimes, but I still prefer it
