It's only $60.00 a year... The normal price of a game. It has good features the PS3 lacks. I have both consoles and I prefer the Xbox 360 over the PS3. It seems the PS3 makes a lot of money on their DLC if you ask me. Uncharted has over 300 and Playstation All Stars charges $4.99 for each new character and $1.99 for stages along with other various forms of DLC. Little Big Planet 2 doesn't allow you to use community objects that were made from DLC content which I believe had over 5 packs around $4.99 each. I'm aware the Xbox 360 has DLC, but I don't think it forces it on people as much as the PS3.

Only $60.00 a year? Only? Do you not realize that this is the most expensive console online service in the history of video games? That this is literally the ONLY console that requires you to pay for online services? And yes, it is the normal price of a game. Which is a lot of money. But why pay? The only advantage xbox live has over PSN is cross game voice chat. That's not worth $60.00 per year.

I also do not understand your DLC example, considering the DLC you are complaining about is common on a large variety of games these days, not just those PS3 exclusives you pointed out. Its nothing horrible. Your example of DLC also does not make sense considering you are comparing a few games from PS3's large exclusive library to xbox's notably small one. In other words, the Xbox's game library mainly consists of multiplatform games that can be found on PS3 and Xbox 360. The Xbox only has Halo, Gears, and Forza as established franchises. The rest of the popular games on Xbox 360 are all multiplatform. So there is no "forcing" anything considering the same DLC is on the xbox. Now if you're purely comparing the colossal mountain of PS3 exclusives to the 3 main exclusives on Xbox, Halo has some pretty snide DLC as well. Their map packs are $14.99 each and there are playlists you cannot access without them. Not to mention that you cannot do anything besides campaign and custom games without paying for xbox live.

If you can find ONE advantage to owning an xbox besides cross game chat, I would be surprised. The exclusives on PS3 are varied, fascinating, and entertaining, the system is more powerful, and it has free online.

Well it pays for better security at least.

"Things that we pay for are always going to be better. I don't trust something that somebody's just willing to give me. It's like sex -- am I going to go with the professional sex provider who does this for a living and expects a fair wage, or am I going to choose some amateur who's doing it for free and could literally have anything inside those pants? I will spend dollars for quality, and that's why I will only have sex that I pay for. Likewise, I will only have sex if I've been paid. It's called the economy, dumbass! Look it up in a book sometime."

what the hell did I just read

As long as Xbox has Halo, I'm Xbox4life.

They're charging you for basic functionality. Have fun tossing your money away.

For only $60.00 a year that's not much at all.

This doesn't have to do with paying with live, but I much more enjoy the Xbox 360 controller over the PS3. One reason I pay is to play with my friends and talk with them in a party while we play a game. The Xbox 360 also has good exclusives that I love playing online against people. Another advantage is being able to be signed in on multiple accounts (whether it's with a friend or someone) on a game. The PS3 has to have in a built in feature in the game in order to do that. The online isn't always free either. If you lose your online pass to a game that requires it, you have to buy a new one. Does anyone enjoy paying for online? I certainly don't, but I will to play online exclusives and talk to friends. It's worth the money to me.

The playlists contain the same gametypes as other playlists just with different maps. You don't need them to play on the other playlists with those same gametypes. I'm specifically listing some PS3 exclusives because that's where I see it the most. For example, in Little Big Planet 2 people create community objects as rewards to players for completing their level. However, if you don't have the proper DLC you cannot use the items they created rendering the prizes useless. Also, in All Stars you cannot play as the characters until you pay $4.99 for each. Do you have to? No. You most likely will want them after seeing other players use them against you online. Of course, that differs from each individual. Your statement is wrong about the $14.99 map packs. It's $20.00 for 1,600 Microsoft Points so half of which is 800 which is how much the maps are making them only $10.00. Xbox has other good exclusives such as Fable 2 which aren't as popular now, but still good.

I think I listed a couple in my first paragraph.

EDIT: I'd also like to mention it's free reward program for when you complete offers and purchase items you get Microsoft points. It may not be the best, but I have earned 630 points from it along with 80 currently pending.

I enjoy my X-box live slightly more than PS3. It's just minor things though, party chat, being able to see what your friends are playing, and what they last played and when, and being able to do so on the website instead of having to log on and such. However the Netflix and crap is stupid, it doesn't run on their servers so it's silly to charge for. It may have made sense at first when Netflix was exclusively on Live, therefor it was a good reason to actually have Live... but once PS3 got it they should have just made it not require Live.

Now, is it worth $60? Nah, but I usually buy it online when I find it for around $30 or so. However I only really play online with my nephew and such. If he were to have a PS3 I would just play that way I suppose.

Whether or not it's worth it doesn't really matter though, it is very successful. They'd be silly to drop it unless PS4 really challenges their position earlier on this generation(PS3 took too long to truly get into the game, so the fact their online was free didn't really hurt the 360 that much).

Zazzi* 04-09-2013 11:04 PM

The major reason I find that people like xbox better than PS3 was who you would play with online. Wanna play solo you can have the same fun experience with the PS3, but it doesn't work like that the most influential thing of the console is who you are playing it with.

Besides now that the new console is coming out I think the PS4 will have party chat so I'm petty sure I won't get the next gen xbox.

RUMOR: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123124-Rumor-Next-Gen-Xbox-Will-Cost-300-500-Be-Always-Online

Seems they might have two types of consoles one a "subscription based" and one normal model. I see another pay to play console again.

I bought a 360 instead of a PS3 because of this and because most of my friends have a 360.

Again just a rumor, on the next Xbox they will have a "Platinum" subscription that is suppose to have more perks than Gold, and will of course cost more.
