But it does? If you read the thread, he was questioning why iEra doesn't have someone like Rufus, in other words, someone that tries to fix problems like the latency in-game.

Anyway, we're getting off-topic. I haven't had any footage, but sparring seems to be painful with the intermittent server connection drops/dead packets/etc.

Rufus isn't directly trying to fix the lag, but to show Stefan exactly the problem. Communicating with Stefan can sometimes be difficult, english is not his native language and... well, sometimes he just completely misses the point. Therefor Rufus doesn't want to fix lag himself, but have something to show Stefan to explain exactly what players are experiencing because "It's lagging" and "there are lag spikes" mean nothing to Stefan.

Yes, but he can already see that cpu usage is up between 60-90% at all times and he can probably view logs to see that other resources are being ran through.

Stefan is aware of the latency problems and has even moved a few servers to new machines (iZone + iDelteria) so that they can handle excess amounts of players, but iClassic + iEra should still be on an older machine. Stefan misses the point nine times out of ten and is nearly impossible to communicate with, so showing him videos of players lagging probably won't do anything. Hell, you'll be lucky if you can get anything besides "x-x" and "well maybe we can upgrade server x-x" when presenting this to him.

But yes, you're right, saying/showing Stefan that there's lag will mean nothing. He knows it is apparent already.

Staff have talked to him about the lag going on with iClassic and he always just looks at the numbers and says "lag is down from last month. We're on a better machine, everything looks fine." As far as what I've seen, he literally has no clue what's going on with the lag spikes specifically. Videos do speak louder than words in this instance and if we have a few videos from a few players showing the exact same lag spikes occurring then the chances of him taking it seriously increase.

iClassic isn't suffering from the high ping that the PC servers are getting because of the anti-DDoS. They're just "hiccuping" at large intervals and as far as I know iClassic's machine isn't being stressed by scripts.

Graal's networking desperately needs to be updated.

Main changes that would help a lot:

1. UDP instead of TCP.
2. Built-in clientside movement interpolation.

Players just need to spread out more.

Blueh 07-27-2013 11:35 PM

WHY DONT WE JUST TAKE ALL OF THIS LAG...AND PUSH IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!? *nods towards Snowtown*

Oh ****, I should have had Oni edit my video.

PumaD 07-28-2013 12:47 AM

Why don't you ask someone to speak with Stefan in German? lol.

I think I'll take my video at the Daycare, so others have something to enjoy too.

That's a bad plan. The daycare is packed so you don't want to 'taint' the video with framerate drops and other possible bottlenecking. Just need to show the constant lagspikes.

Stefan speaks German? :0 I know German

There should be more things to do around the map. To spread everybody out and stuff. Like quests :0

Stefan is French not German......... Eurocenter is in Paris...

Usually when the server is lagging, its systems lag too (fort flags freeze, menus dont load, baddies are frozen etc), but none of that is happening, so all this time I thought it was client lag. When I freeze lag, it doesnt seem like everyone else lagged at the same time too. Could this be caused by high player count?

Players will never spread out. Sorry. Players sit and idle in Graal City for various reasons, but the most important thing to realize is that they're idling. Therefor content outside of Graal City means nothing to them, because they're not even there.

According to Stefan most lag isn't coming from scripts or playercount, but many players in one level. Yet players whine when they get unstuck from Graal City...
