I don't understand how mildly increasing a kids agressiveness will cause anything? If you're trying to start up the whole "violent video games cause school shootings" arguement, we can bore you with statistics telling you how this isn't true

Well, the FPS Doom was used to "train" for Columbine.

Ash, you're a bad trainer. No one wants to see your "adventures" in Kalos! We want Red!

Because then **** like this happens. Granted, this is an extreme case, but still...
Children that young are extremely impressionable.

I really don't think grand theft auto had anything to do with this. We don't know enough about the story to even draw that conclusion. All we know is that he played grand theft auto in the past. Heck, it could have been anything. I bet the reason this story blew up is because the media is desperately trying to link video games to violence for hits since that's a big controversy now. My biggest problem with this story is the fact that these parents left a loaded gun around in their house... That should be the real issue.

Translation of the boy(the video is french):
"It's beautiful" and Parents are laughing because they are so happy for their children...
Pitfull
Once again

Doom didn't teach them how to make explosives that would potentially kill 600 people, Doom didnt cause them to be mercilessly crazy, training on an Fps isn't gonna help you win a gun fight with trained police officers. Crazy people will be crazy, video games won't make people crazy. These kids were beyond crazy, you should see some of the stuff they were writing in a journal.

Violent video games and movies do influence kids thoughts and maybe some of their actions. I'll use torah as an example. He watches that super hero show right? Hes into it. He loves it. People are into GTA and they love it. But I'm pretty sure Torah would never make a sword like the ones he sees in the show he watches and try to stop bad guys irl lol. I played GTA when I was younger too and maybe it did make me a little more aggressive but I'd never ever steal a 200 thousand dollar car , run over a few hundred people, and shoot a few dozen cops. Only a psycho/seriously mentally ill or unstable person would do that. And unfortunately we have these people. But games like GTA do not make ppl mentally unstable like these crazy shooters and bombers we hear about these days. Those ppl had fled up childhoods and are not fit to live in society. If what people say is true about violent games then we would have millions of little criminals and thugs destroying the world right now. But I do agree that Kidd should be a certain age to play these games so that they're old enuf to understand its just a game and don't do anything u see on the screen irl

I'm sure you must have been seeing the way you think now. Children's minds are more underdeveloped than adults. They are more prone to imitating actions. Just because you didn't do anything, doesn't mean it won't effect other kids. Who knows, it could have even desensitized you to violence. The game is M+17 for a reason. Not meant for kids whatsoever. If you even think it's okay for a kid to play that kind of game it's wrong.

were you directly influenced by mature games when you were a kid?

I didn't play them because I was a kid. I think the first mature game I played was Halo 2 local multiplayer when I was 14 at my cousin's. I've had my Xbox 360 for 4 years so I pretty much started playing them when I was 15. Yes, they did make me more aggressive actually. I would actually punch myself and bite my hand and cuss at the people (people being the players) calling them things like "Cheap ass ****er!" when they were really not. I would even be more aggressive to people that came in the room when I was so pissed off. So I really wasn't old enough to play them either. I just think 11 is way too young. You're not even a teenager at that age.

that has nothing to do with the mature content of the game though.

Depends what game you want to talk about. I really didn't play any M games besides first person shooters when I was younger. It's possible I just had anger issues with games. My point is still made that I did not own my first M game until I was 15. The other times I had played an M game were over friends or family on occasions. So you can't use me as an example. Now if you want to look at game content for M games let's take a peak at Grand Theft Auto 5. Go ahead and look at this link and tell me how any of what is described is suitable for children. Most M games contain foul language that when exposed to a younger audience may start being imitated.

Violence influences don't actually have to be physical attacks on others. Ever think of psychological? It's possible you get more violent urges in your mind against people. An example, you see a guy picking on a dog and rather than being charged for animal abuse you instead start having thoughts of ways he should die for what he's done. The violence can get to your head. Thoughts of such are unhealthy. We can go on and on about the content in games and the effects it has or the audience it's suitable for. I'm still saying it's not meant for kids.

I didn't say it was suitable for children, instead I just disagree that it's "wrong" for an 11 year old to play GTA.

Strong arguement, because a kid isn't exposed to foul language unless it's from M-rated media content right?

Quite the imagination you have there, perhaps we should be thankful you didn't get your hands on M-rated games when you were a kid.

If a game is causing aggression that is a strong warning sign the kid should not be playing the game.

How could you think theres nothing wrong with that?

CHAOS* 09-15-2013 08:00 PM

Damn, what a lucky kid.

Are you really asking about the language thing? The worst words I've heard in Teen games are damn and hell. M games contain words like f/uck, ass hole, douche, etc. Also, an 11 year old is classified as a child. You're not a teenager, toddler, or a baby. You're a child. The game has sexual content and violence not suited for such an age. I'm not making the the psychological part up. You must consider any and all cases. I don't even know why I'm bothering arguing with you. It's obvious which party you are and that you won't listen. I've always disagreed with most of your posts except for a few. I guess this just goes by someone's moral values.

When I was in 5th grade my classmates said every "bad word" on a regular basis. Hell, I picked up swearing from them. And this was in America too, so don't give me that "here in 'murica its different".

This kid is probably a fan of the series, meaning he's played GTAIV. Believe it or not, not all people fit under one blanket assumption. Some can handle mature games.

I haven't read this whole thread but here is my opinion I played black ops when I was 11 from what I've seen it just doesn't affect me. My parent would never let me play these game if my behavior was like what I saw in these games and my dad is always telling cussing is a substitute for intelligence so I just don't do it
