What about a server that houses sparring and shops? I don't see how those 2 things would be dependent on other stuff. You say one of the major issues is releasing new items aka adding new hats or opening Nexus or Rev for the weekend. So why not make a 2nd server where those would be located. Maybe even make it so you have to go on this 2nd server to enter player and guild houses. Maybe you could make a 2nd server by combining Balamb and Air Asia into 1 big island and move some stuff there from the main map like the Battle arena (thus moving sparring), the generic starter mount stable with the Horse race track, Angel Clan, Oasis (VIP Island) , Day care center, ect. My point is that you should be able to take somethings and move them to a 2nd server, and allow players to jump back and forth between servers. Thus moving at least a small portion of the player count off the main server reducing lag. I wasn't trying to pick on sparring or anything mearly trying to throw out some suggestions of things that could possible get relocated that wouldn't hurt the flow of game play. |
Someone brought up an idea to me earlier today and I think it might be something that could be pursued. In Graal's history, Classic was a server that focused on simple fun, player killing, sparring, guilds and quests. A few years after that the next official server was released called Graal2001. We have a lot of things that Graal2001 had on Classic at the moment, such as the draisine and the crappy chair lift at Belle Island. Zone currently uses one of its main features, Bomy Pets, and players used to be able to actually BE a Bomy.
Anyway, the idea that was proposed meant that Graal2001 (also known as Bomy Lands or Bomy Island) would be developed as a 'new' server. It would be its own application, but connected to Classic in a way that the Facebook server used to be. Classic would then focus heavily on competitive activities, guilds and quests (but it would not lose its furniture and hat updates, things like that) while Bomy Island would place emphasis on roleplaying and a Harvest Moon-like job economy in a persistent world. With Classic using a lot of the 2k1 content already there would be a lot of room for crossovers. For example, Classic uses draisines on railroads which are in caves, while 2k1 uses railroads on the overworld with trains that provide a means of travel. Other examples include a SINGLE house which is shared between the two servers, bugs for bug catching on Bomy Island and vice-versa. It is a rough idea, I don't know if it will be pursued, but I think that I like it a lot. |

My idea for premises of server split: server 1 = all players under 750hours; server 2 = everyone else. |
