Nah. Regardless of anime, the idea, mechanics, and general gameplay would be quite interesting.

Instead of forever, perhaps like 24 hours. Make it short, but long enough to make people more careful.

so basically being a player in a game in a game? doesnt really offer anything interesting as a server except being banned for an x amount of time once dying.

Well, depending on the anime, there is a lot of action that you can't find in regular TV shows. Like Dragonball Z, all that fighting and ki blasts? It just couldn't be properly pulled off outside of an anime.

Anime is pretty interesting. Some anime have deep meanings in them. Some can make you cry, some can make you laugh. Have you ever seen a character look sad and wonder why he/she is sad? From what I've experienced, most of the time, the reasons why an anime character shows the expression that they're showing is very meaningful. You should try some good anime and go see for yourself. New comers may think anime is dumb, and has no meaning and it's just cartoon, but it's more than that.

Don't start with Attack on Titan or Kill La Kill though. Try AnoHana or Clannad. Or a long running series that just ended a while back, Hunter X Hunter. Those will probably change your opinion on anime.
