Don't buy Windows 8 because you can get Windows 10 Technical Preview for free.

Or, if you have a Windows 7 disk laying around, install that and you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free when it comes out this summer.

How far along is the technical preview now? I wouldn't recommend installing a pre-release version of Windows as your main OS as it's bound to be buggy and as a result your hardware could be damaged.

I'd torrent a version of Windows 7/Windows 8.1 and install that.

I paid around $1300 for mine, what do they cost in Sweden?

An i5 rig with a GTX 970 will run you about $1k, and that's without case, PSU, storage, etc. Do note that Sweden's currency is pretty weak against the dollar atm, otherwise this would easily be $1.2k.

dat tax bruh

I believe I'll just stick with fp4's original build, why spend more when it can already do everything I want, right? Now on to my next question, I need a monitor. Is there any particular moniter that's cheap, yet effecient? I know next to nothing about monitors and it appears just about any one works, but I'd still like to see what's out there.

Since you were willing to spend up to $1200, I would consider using that extra bit and getting a good monitor with either a high refresh rate or higher resolution.

Higher refresh rate monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vg248qe

Higher resolution monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-pb278q

If you like competitive FPS then the higher refresh rate monitor would be slightly better but for all around usage I would suggest the higher resolution over it.

Earlier this week my house was robbed and they stole the computer I used for gaming.

That's awful, dude. I'm so sorry. :(

Been using it for about 7-8 months and it's *stable*. I only noticed a few UI issues a few months ago when it was earlier on in development. Been kinda surprised at how stable it is.

But yeah! I didn't want to say it because I thought it was against forum rules but the bottom suggestion is also valid!

I never trust any version of Windows until it gets a service pack or two. (Or something equivalent to that.)

Thanks, appreciate the concern.

I experienced some complications with insurance though, as I wasn't very familiar with how an insurance claim really worked. Turns out I probably won't be getting a desktop for a long while now, but I will reference back to this after getting money from summer job. Thanks anyways fellas, I appreciate all the help I got.

*runs Windows update 8-9 times to make sure all the updates are installed*

But yes :o

Just to make you know, if you have Windows 7-8 on your PC and install Windows 10 Technical Preview + uninstall old version, you wont get the finished Windows 10 when it is released.

You will so long as you have your original license...
