Probably wouldn't have been as annoying if it didn't reset all the time.

And wasn't ugly as all hell. Then again the iClassic map used orange airbrush to fade out the unavailable areas and players didn't seem to mind that.

Im not actually sure how many people actually noticed. It gives that kind of map feel, at least from my perceptive.

right just overlay the same cloud graphics and have them disappear when they are viewed; but another option is to collect map pieces since there is a cartographer. You could even give the ability to lose map pieces to force players to request.

WHAT IF — map pieces randomly showed up while digging, or swimming, or in grasses — and you could collect multiple of the same piece? You could also occasionally lose pieces, as well maybe after dying.

Then, if you couldn't find the map piece you needed—you have to socialize or buy it off of someone. Kind of like McDonald's monopoly

The whole system could be ushered in seamlessly; everyone starts out with the map, but then begins losing pieces of the map. They must go to a trading post by the Cartographer to buy & sell pieces they need; there could be a market fee for the seller to list them for a time (which expires) and a decrypting fee for the buyer—so ultimately people are spending more gralats than they are earning, which is good for Graal

The seller should be required to come pickup his earnings by the market man, or his map pieces that didn't sell & decide to relist them if he wants to. This will encourage players to travel about the server (reducing lag & clusters, while giving the game more life and its levels value)

Also, I've always been a fan of this powerful animated sequence for collecting map pieces:

Would take all of 20mins, not worth it in relation to the size of the overworld IMO.
This idea in the railroads would be neat I guess if more side caves and sub-sections added.

Unless of course we go with the ideas I've presented—which make it more of a social hunt

This seems like an extremely useless and even bad thing to do on classic as of now. (my opinion)

1. Classic's map is too small for this to be or feel special in any way.
2. This will be more of an annoyance
3. Classic's map doesn't really offer that many useful places in the overworld which make exploring worthwhile. (by the time you get enough hours to enter the hourplaces you will already know about where they are so that's not an option either)

The only way I could see this being added if we get a map that's a lot bigger. If we get more big inside levels with each having their own seperate maps and secrets. Or if exploring places would be a requirement for a reward of some sort. Either way I'd still just see it as an annoyance though

Some people don't even bother to read the op.

It was stated that this was aimed towards new players, who would have no idea how big the map is, therefore would explore every area they could.

@antago, map pieces seem pretty cool too.

What would really be nice is if all the edges of the world were connected, and the map the was a circular opening in the clouds—as you traveled throughout the world, there was no beginning or ending—like a planet.

Thallen 11-05-2015 03:42 AM

someone probably already said this, but this is how it actually was for many playerworlds on PC, I think there's some option in RC where you can turn automapping on or off, don't remember

Skyzer 11-05-2015 03:42 AM

Yeah. That option doesn't exist anymore.
