I don't know a lot about Photoshop painting, but I do know that a lot of illustrators like to use a cross between Illustrator and Photoshop in their work. Illustrator gives you that smooth, clean edge really easily, and Photoshop is good for the painting aspect. I don't know exactly how these artist interchange between the two or their techniques, but perhaps something to look into.

Edit: LOL WHEATLY. awesome xD

I don't know much about Illustrator, but have used it in the past for school projects. Why does everyone think he's Wheatly D:.

I made a new picture today. I think I'm improving a bit:

Ponies are my passion <3. I tried using Paint Tool Sai this time and used a different technique. I don't know which style looks better.

Your second piece of art looks the best as the colors contrast. Whereas the yellow and pink pony with a slightly darker shade of pink for the background doesn't give the same effect. Anyhow good work! +rep (when I can)

Thanks! My sister taught me her way and I think it looks better. However, I still have a lot to learn lol. I'm going to keep practicing and watching tutorials to get better.

I like the lack of a hard outline. Its looking alright. Just needs a real good shading to it and smoothen out some of the outlines. Its good, but I notice a little jaggedness like the hair and such. Keep it up, I'm noticing good changes pretty quickly.

Thank you. I'm still testing out many different styles and methods to try to find one I enjoy the most. It's honestly a headache choosing between all of them.

Thanks :o. I want my stuff to look like this:

It's nice and smooth while mine's the opposite. I don't know what kind of techniques people use for digital art, but I would sure like to know some. I've tried YouTube and it's kind of hard to find the one's that I had in mind.

Okay. Then I might as well point out another style from the Image that you love so much. Look at the road, very closely at its shading, and look at the ponies' hair. There is a kind of textured shading to it, like your dragging an eraser across. Its not an often used style of shading but nonetheless its a style. Do you notice it?

Nothing you just said even matters.

I can tell pretty clearly that's one of the only things that gives it a slight painted aesthetic rather than looking like a typical vector drawing.
