Yeah Dusty, this would be Graal the Adventure, back when PWs were first starting up and classic was going from the main game to, well, classic.
I'm thinking early 2000s, maybe? Whenever they first added ap, before the big level overhaul when they did some changes to scripting (I'm really fuzzy on the details here.) Gralats were easy to get then so it was no big deal. Now that theres actual money to be made I can't see why they wouldn't bring back that idea. |

Maybe, I'm not sure about the dates (I don't actually remember when I stopped playing, but it was definitely before 2004/2005, Whenever Graal went pay to play.) Graal the Adventure was what the client itself referred to the whole game as though, long before that.
I do remember the classes you're talking about, but that was definitely not a main part of the server. That came around before there even were other servers, but there was a place you could go on the south-east end of the map, select a class and play on what seemed like a different server, fresh stats/look, a more traditional rpg hp system and (working) magic system. It was all handled by scripting though and only artificially kept apart from the main world. Eventually it did become a separate playerworld from the rest of Graal along with Graal 2K1 and others. I remember when it became it's own playerword it was Valikoria, but when it was still connected to the main server it was just Karlia or something along those lines. It was not Graal the Adventure any more than what we today know as classic though. This was all pretty seperate from what was happening with the rest of Graal classic. I do remember the heavy additions by Thyme. I can't say if this was before or after. I think it was in the big quest area called Destiny though, if you can put a time to that. I think you might be thinking of the later revisions that were done when the new npc-server was put in place. I'm pretty sure Thyme was responsible for this but it's seperate from the earlier quests he added to give a unified plot to Graal. He definitely had nothing to do with Karlia, that was way back (2000, 2001 at the latest.) |

Graal The Adventure refers to when Tyhm managed the Classic server. The server itself was called Graal The Adventure. Earlier on the client had Graal - the Adventure but when people say GTA they're typically referring to Classic under Thym's management. Also all that other various stuff refers to other servers entirely. It may seem like a unified part of Classic, but that was simply because back then you could warp to other servers via a script... that is typically how you travelled to other "worlds." Not long after though it was added so you could just type the IP. That is when servers really started making a history for themselves. Servers like N-Pulse started becoming popular as stand-alone servers. Classic most definitely had classes at one point, again, under Tyhm's reign. This wasn't just some off-server side thing, it was a core part of the server. Quote:

I can't really argue what other people mean when they say Graal the Adventure. What you're saying makes sense since no one really had to differentiate Graal The Adventure from anything else before then, but regardless that was Graal's name for ages. How exactly did Karlia work back then? I was too young to know the details probably. I do know that other servers were a part of Graal since well before that, the (limited) g-server was around when I first started playing, and the old clients always let you put in any ip to any server. I think we're talking about completely different time periods in Graal, when I say early 2000s I mean literally 00-02. Then and before people just refered to the game as a whole as "Graal the Adventure" when giving the full title. |

There were no fountains in Avalon as far as I know.

You're thinkin of Avalon, and it never became a player world. Classes were never added to classic/graal the adventure, but nations were for a brief period. And even when the nations were released, I don't think they lasted long because that was when classic was force to get an npc server.
I think you might have classic confused with some player world. |

That's the thing, like you said this is all so poorly documented. We're all working off decade old memories here. Websites from that era just didn't stick around in the way things do now.
-Albus, Avalon was definitely a city on Graal classic (or, the adventure, or just Graal whatever :P ) at one point and there were a couple neat quests there. There was no fountain in Avalon but I think there might have been in the much larger area, Destiny, south of it. I know that was on classic because it was the location of one of the tridents at one point. |
Yeah, Avalon was a bug island that was in the southwest corner of the map. However, Avalon wasn't a place where you had different stats and magic and what not, it was just an island that was made by one of the old lats. There were a few quests associated there, namely the birdshot as well as some heras and I think a part of the level 3 sword quest, but other than that it wasn't that big of a deal. The only other notable thing in Avalon was an NPC that was nearly impossible to kill. He had 50 health and was insanely aggressive. Behind the room with him was a secret bookshelf where you could get a speedboat(horse) that worked on water.
Destiny wasn't south of Avalon, it was just the southernmost place on the mainland. Destiny had some pretty notable quests, but never had a fountain if I remember correctly. Destiny was also much smaller than Avalon too in terms of size. It had more quests, like the pyramid and the Mario style tower, but it was definitely smaller. |

However he only attacked if you attacked him. It was an easy way to get noobs killed. People also killed him as bragging rights. The biggest achievement of Avalon imo was the layout of the island being so symmetrical. A laugh these days, but back then someone sat there and did that all by hand. |
