Even new shotguns will have balancing issues, i'm not merely trying to balance one gun. I'm trying to balance all shotguns for the present and for the future.

I didn't read the other posts on this thread so I'm sorry if I'm repeating this:
Why not give shotguns crazy spread? Make it to where the only way to hit with all four-five bullets is short range. Unlike the Olympic rings, have the rate of fire far slower, so a player doesn't have to constantly dodge.

Let us do math :)

6 damage a bullet, four bullets = 24 damage, 48 damage with only two shots x.x
5 damage a bullet, four bullets = 20 damage, 40 damage with only two shots
One seems more fair to me than the other :P

Just assign the equation (base damage x multiplier range) to every bullet so that if one doesn't hit, it doesn't take too much dmg. Also, you could in theory this way, assign different equations to different bullets to give that balanced effect.

So you'd making temp.dmg = the distance check minus it's on going tile? That's pretty cool. The closer the better, the further the less damage.

Well, I don't think this'll reduce the close range ownage thing but you should try it and see :)
