There was a news update saying "A few new items have been released in the Swamptown Flea Market. If you are in the area come check it out!" Except there was nothing new and it was removed after 20 minutes.

You know volunteers literally don't have to.

Nah I didn't. Maybe if I had played Graal an additional ten years I would have known that.

In the real world, your expectations of what volunteers accomplish should be zero. Everything that a volunteer accomplishes should be considered a bonus to an organization. If you hold volunteers to be responsible to essential business, then they're no longer volunteers and they should get paid.

So all the staff of classic should be expected to get nothing done at all?

Yep. Nobody's paying them, so unless you consider volunteer staff as slaves, you should expect anything you see from them as a bonus.

Edit: As an addendum, I would like to say that expectations are not motivations. Anyone who volunteers has motivation, whether it's for learning, social status, or making the world a better place. The general social contract for volunteers is about the motivations someone would have for volunteering.

That makes no sense. When you volunteer for something, you are saying that you will do some work for free. It isn't slavery, yet you are expected to get at least a little bit done.
