Sorry, but providing the option to turn off the effect just ends up with everyone turning off the effect. I mean ya, people leave it on for a little while at first if it looks cool.... but then the novelty wears off and they prefer the advantage of seeing over the pretty effects. Then all that time and effort is wasted because you just end up with what you had before.

I'd leave it on. Just for you, Dusty.

Only read like 3 posts before tl;dr.
@ OP: thats the shadow of the bridge LOL not a sunset.

even if day&night / "nightstalking" were to be implemented, it would be unfair to every other timezone playing graal in "night" when it is day in their country. to make it fair, the system would need to be timezone specific (which means the whole system would have to be clientside?). so no real level changes would occur besides darkness

The game would have its own time scaling independent of the real world. Something like two or three days in 24 hours.

Omg YES I've been spamming for a day/night cycle for years :)

@dusty, can't you just use some form of a simple light effect/ a transparent color overlay to simulate a night time shader, and change gameplay according to the time of day? It doesn't actually have to make the screen darker when it's night, just give the impression that it's night by changing the way the game looks(night time shader kinda like darkish blue comes on, lights turn on etc)

Xenthic 02-23-2013 12:22 AM

Why don't graal have it's own timezone so every player will experience day/night all at the same time, it doesn't matter what time it is in your country.

If this was already mentioned sorry because I don't like reading posts xD

Whether or not it gets dark or just turns purple is just as taxing to the gpu of the older ipods.

I just expalined this. Graal's time would match up with Americas timezone. which means day/night would be backwards for asians (*cough* and europeans like yourself), so you would always be playing graal with a dark screen when the sun is shining where you live

Dusty 02-24-2013 06:01 AM

O.o wtf is wrong with you people? It would never be synced to one timezone.

And he just explained the solution to that.

would using a very transparent image of one color as an overlay provide the intended look without having a huge impact on performance?

also to clarify all the "time zone issues" it will not be based on the real time of a day> I was thinking a day on graal would be maybe 3-6 hours in real life

Sicx 02-28-2013 04:13 AM

Good luck

Nope. When it comes to transparency it depends on the GPU to render it, and in this case the iPod2's GPU just isn't up to the challenge. Or so I'm assuming, I don't have one to test it personally and I'm not really running diagnostic surveys or anything.

MrSimons 02-28-2013 05:00 AM

I don't see how people still can't comprehend that if this was implemented it wouldn't line up with any single time zone. Seriously, learn to read...

Hmm.. Maybe this is something that can be done once support for the 3G dies off? I know 2G support is gone - can't be THAT much longer.
