lel everyone is talking like the dog is some kind of monster, "it won't stop until it kills you"

wouldn't a cop be trained in a situation of a dog coming at you? surely they weren't taught to shoot it 3 times.

guy gets arrested people focus on dog

ppl get shot regularly by police, only see a thread about some dog

Here in America, for whatever reason, the general public and media values the safety of animals over the well-being of human beings that risk their lives on a daily basis to keep us safe. Funny eh? America in general is so damn sensitive.

So if your family member was suddenly attacked by an angry dog you'd tell them to grow a pair of balls? Right, because when put into perspective like that, if you had the opportunity to defend yourself and those around you, you'd pass it up.

The guy tried to tackle the dog first and provocated him that way.
Also where are muh freedoms now, USA? He shouldn't have been arrested in the first place.

True, the dog was provoked and that was the cop's fault but as a result he did have a right to protect himself, despite idiotic actions on his part.

And this sort of thing happens all the time. There are police departments and officials that are corrupt, just like anywhere else.

Even though the cop was defending himself, he really didn't need to shoot the dog. He could've fired a warning shot in the air to frighten the dog to back off then broke out the taser and dealt with it non-lethally.

At first when I saw this I was thinking it was completely out of order to shoot the dog, especially right in front of the owner, god knows what I would do if anyone killed my dog right in front of me...

But then again, when a dog is trying to bite me, and once dogs attack you viciously they don't just bite, they hold on and try to drag you around and basically tear your limb off you, as well as the fact it's a Rottweiler, I probably would have done the same thing out of instinct.

one or two shots would of done it and may of not killed the dog, this is just inhumane.

And what would have happened then? Shooting a dog once or twice is the inhumane thing to do. Animals don't get the same kind of treatment humans do, and if it got shot chances are it would have suffered for quite a while before eventually being put down.

Also good for everyone saying they'd take a bite from the dog before shooting it; I love listening to people say what they would do when put into a specific situation and how awesomely they'd handle the adrenaline and danger. Because after it latches onto your arm you'll be in quite the position to deal with it. That's not the way police deal with confrontations, their job is to prevent harm, not take harm and then deal with it.

It is a very unfortunate turn of events, but I don't think it's quite as lopsided as people are making it out to be. I don't think the officer was entirely in the wrong, and the dog defending its owner is a very possible likelihood. I wish the dog didn't end up getting shot at all but the owner was irresponsible and put the dog in a dangerous position.

Pretty sure it's illegal to fire guns into the air; definitely not something an officer would ever practice.

I hate humans.

But then again, many animals attack humans for safety issues.

And yet you'd be making these decisions in the heat of the moment, when your adrenaline is pumping? That's the problem here: it's very easy to look at a situation as an outsider, comfortable in your home and say how awesome you'd handle any given situation, but things are very different in the heat of the moment.

And anyways, shooting the ground is not protocol. Officers don't(or shouldn't) put their finger on the trigger unless they intend to shoot someone. And they definitely shouldn't be shooting at nothing.
