when I can actually spend less money on an Apple product.

Wat?

To me, OS X is more reliable, smoother, easier and more visually appealing to use, and a lot less annoying. I have both OS X (Yosemite) and Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro. I really only switch over to the Windows partition to use applications that dont have a mac version.

Windows Woes
Spoiler
Ok, so my laptop is connected to my college's network (the school gives students laptops), which means the network administrator has the power to lock certain settings if wanted. (my school isnt a dictatorship, so its not completely locked down or anything) But the ONE setting that they have locked that I cannot change on Windows is the Auto Updates. I CANNOT stop Windows from automatically updating (which happens way too often) and it takes several hours and 3+ reboots. Seriously. I just wanna get on MS Access to do my frikin homework

Yosemite Woes
Spoiler
wtf Apple? cmon. Mavericks was so much better. Im not gonna bich about the color palette like other people, but they REALLY need to stop using the previousiOS as a model for their new OSX (talking about how things like notification center and launch pad started as iOS concepts). And Safari 8: why tf did they remove my favorites bar and the title bar?! gonna have to get used to that. Anyway I dont really care about all that -^, my bigger problem is that Yosemite no longer recognizes my Windows partition.. the Windows disk doesnt appear in Finder... BootCamp no longer works... basically half of my hard-drive doesnt exist; I can only access the partition through ParallelsDesktop, which eats a lot of CPU and battery.

I'm a bit peeved at my Windows right now.

When it asks you to update your computer on Windows 8/10, it doesn't pop up in a tiny out-of-focus GUI in the corner. Rather, it now dominates the entire screen and immediately steals the focus on it. It gives you two options, one of "yes" or something similar and the other of "no".

It automatically has the "yes" button selected to start, so all you need to do is press enter or any other key (yes, any other key) to get it to start. And as it so happens, I was writing a paper when it popped up. There's literally no reaction time, so the keys I was hitting to type my paper immediately triggered the "yes" button. Then it closed all my programs and shut down before proceeding to "update" for 3 hours. And to make matters worse, it didn't save the document I was writing and it didn't recover it when my computer finally did start up again.

It's almost cause for switching to OS X. I mean yeah, that comes with its own host of issues, but at least it should guarantee that my computer won't shut down and become unusable for several hours without warning at a time I need to be able to use it.

You must have severe autism.
The comparison here is laptop without a graphics card with a desktop computer equipped by a graphics card...

To prevent further crying, the MacBook Air has an Intel i7 clocked @ 3.3Ghz and the Alienware an i7 too clocked at 4.2Ghz. For the graphics card, I have no clue and don't care much.

If this post doesn't please you then it isn't any of your concerns.
Pass on with life. :P

Clocks on a CPU are redundant and purely just a number. I can tell you a thing or two about PC hardware...
Dedicated GPUs and integrated graphics on a CPU are very different... especially performance-wise. Normally you may find more power in a dedicated GPU, yet laptops are consistent of APUs which behold different performance levels and different concepts.
Regardless, Alienware is trash for the money.

Don't waste your breath, he made it quite clear that he doesn't know much about computers.

How can you assume someone has autism from a good question?

WindowsXP for me please!
I prefer windows. More user friendly imo and a lot smoother then mac also imo. XP was the best version, and 7, that one was also nice. I can't stand windows 8+. Not user friendly at all and impossible to understand unless you mess around with it foeverrrrrrrrrrr.

Windows xp is going to be or already is unsupported April 8th. Not a big deal but still :,c

I'd say Mac. I just bought myself a Macbook Pro 15". I was on Windows and it's not the same world for me. It's way faster and smoother, especially for big projects where windows was slower than my new laptop. But for softwares that only works on Windows, you can always dual boot or download and use a virtual machine.

Concerning Graal, I can play on the client without problems. The RC was made for Mac OS X and I'm leveling with Gonstruct. Everything work perfectly on Mac.

Oh no! Facts! Better resort to name calling.

Recently, I feel like windows has a similar feel to the Mac OS. Ever since Windows 7, I haven't felt a big difference in using either OS for everyday use. I'd always choose windows just for the price/performance ratio, though. Actually being able to play games is nice too.

Problem is Windows 8 costs $199.99 and OS X Yosemite costs nothing. Hackintosh?

Who pays for windows?

annakittcat 01-07-2015 02:05 PM

I'm not a total computer 101 nerd with all the facts about the internals and externals but I can say windows 7 is ruler of all. It's simple, easy to use, straight forward stuff. You have everything you need on windows 7. You can use it without the "hassle" of using a computer emulator thing to get downloads from windows to mac. Another thing it's compatable with everrything! Mac is so useless when it comes to downloading games and stuff. It all seems limited and bleh.

Just because it's free, doesn't mean it's legal to install on non-apple hardware.

I heard that Windows 10 would be a free upgrade from windows 8 / windows 7.
