So why not just script a timer instead? 5-10 seconds of 300+ ms is auto-lose... if its lag and its a spike, there's no reason for it to lag longer than 10 seconds; and 10 seconds is a long time in a spar. I'm thinking more like 5 seconds.

A 300 ms lag cap is ridiculously tiny.

Maybe they could just re-allocate the staff they had looking for off-map glitchers and moderate the spar leader board instead.

We don't have staff just running around off map. We primarily aim for reports and feedback. If we don't have any issues from reports/feedback we patrol. Players often do a good job of letting us know when a player is glitching, cursing, or lagging in spar.

We have other ways of finding players glitching off map than just running around :)

So if I enter a spar with say 110ms then half way through I get lag spikes what would happen?

Youd probably auto warp out, like what happens in guild spar.

Soul of ninjas leader ;) he DOESNT lagg at all.

40ms! And the rest of his guild! So lag free it scares me!

EP 02-22-2012 12:05 AM

Should be able to adjust to laggers... Unless it's extreme warp lag like 700+
All u can do is random sword and pray that person has no spar sense or experience with lag

Jagger 02-22-2012 12:11 AM

Not really EP. If someone is on Netflix in my house, my MS will be about 300-400 and even that is nearly impossible to spar using skill. No one should be forced to adapt to sparring it. it's very annoying, you and I both know that.

Pazx 02-22-2012 06:17 AM

200-400 is fine. Swing where they will be, not where they are. That's how sparring should be in the first place.

LiA 03-14-2012 02:23 AM

Please add this to Guild Sparring too if you're gonna add a lag cap in the future for normal spar 0:

I would say that it would be a tied spar, but then people would abuse that.

Too add on to this conversation...

Just me thinking out loud but I'd drop that game if people use something like LAG to have an advantage. It's no fun like that. Plus, why play a game that lags that badly?

This was taken off a different gamers forum, discussing a similar topic.

I have reported players that have lagged, and by this I mean warping every 5 seconds, and a lot a the time I just keep seeing them sparring on and on. On one occasion I was PM'd by a staff member to stop reporting laggers.
Also, I do not spam the report system, so that was not why I received the message.

One other thing that may be an option are spar rooms that each have lag limits, as Jagger mentioned.

This way, your adding a lag limit will not stop actual laggers from sparring, but will allow non-lagging sparrers to choose their rooms, and opponents.

I don't think he means the lag is getting worse, but the people are -- they are intentionally lagging up their connection to get the upper hand.

This is true. I know people that intentionally run downloads and YouTube in the background.

300? low? i was at a motel,i sparred with 300 ms and i warped every 3 seconds, when im home i spar with 49-60 ms.. ALL THE TIME. i cant keep count of how many laggers i lose to... id enjoy a pc only room, and ipod only room, than 2 mixed rooms and a THREE HUNDRED lag cap room... 300 hundred is not low.

Big round of applause. For the first time, I hit over 100 ms, while playing Graal in my room.

Another point of view:

They should come down hard on laggers; don't allow them in the spar, don't allow them in events, don't allow them to enter tournaments. I can guarantee if something like that was enforced, 90 percent of the people who lag on the server would suddenly walk around lag free, with the remaining 10 percent actually attempting to fix whatever is lagging them.

Just wondering doesn't ms stand for milleseconds?

If so 300ms is .3 seconds return of the ping from the device to the router. 5-10 seconds is 5000ms-10000 which is a ridiculous amount. If a cap system was added wouldn't it be more fitting for the lag cap to be 1000+, not starting at 300?

(From expirence my latency of my ping is 50-60ms so idk how bad 1000ms+ is)

That's originally what I thought... Until I'm lagging HORRIBLY and it says I have 300 ms. That's pretty laggy.

Thallen 04-17-2012 05:30 PM

If this is instated, it should only be in the main spar room.

Said like a true person who has never been a good sparrer and/or understood competitive sparring at all, well done.
