Yup, that good ol' "man this is buggy" feeling. Trident was much more satisfying.

Thallen 05-22-2014 07:12 PM

ya, just throw them bad boys on while PKing or during Hardcore GCS tourney for maximum disrespect to opponent
for some reason it felt good using them like that against a wall, IDK
Trident was beast for laming kills

Cane of Brugara, God Bow also solid NPCs

open the editor then open the GMAP
if you see a single level that is completely blank, you've opened it successfully

When I opened it, there's only like green grass or whatever. And I can't press play.

Thallen 05-23-2014 08:58 AM

ya, it's working then
now you just need the 500 .graal and .nw level files so that the GMAP is actually useful

Why was the maps changed from txt to gmap anyway?

In an effort to promote standardization and acknowledgement of graal related files, file extensions of the client were changed around 2000.

Example:

Levels extensions became .nw, and map file names became .gmap
then shortly afterwards came .gani (which had not previously existed prior to 2001ish, and you were were required to be a "GOLD" server to be able to use ganis).

Unfortunately, the offline official level editor never supported opening a series of levels (a gmap), by JUST clicking the .gmap file itself, although Gonstruct does. The offline editor requires you to type a (gs1) script in to set the map and properly display linked levels.

BTW, Thanks for posting that map image dusty, it has been a while. :]

I do miss Antago, Tyhm, Krakken, and kraken.

It looks cool and all but the problem is the areas were probably deserted.

The map was quest-progressive designed -- which meant there were areas you could not get to if you had not completed certain quests or obtained certain equipment, and as a result limited activity in most parts of the map. Similar to Zelda, there were glove levels, one for the white rocks, one for the black rocks, stakes that required a hammer, and so on. Similar to the Classic you see today, it was largely social, and you had a LOT of people that would in fact gather in the main areas you are familiar with today (Graal City -> Bank, Burger Refuge, and Jesus Freaks House), as well as Angel Clan. The rest of the overworld was largely for obtaining the 20 fullhearts, the level 3 sword, and level 3 shield.

The most popular spar place was Zol's spar, of which there were only 2(?fact check me I dont recall..) rooms offered, none of which have the "blocked from entry if not sparring" or "watch spar" option presented in today's games.

Thallen 05-23-2014 02:31 PM

ya, here is where everyone sparred:
http://puu.sh/8XN8J.png

which still today is Zol's Pub, right door, bottom door, left door

The very first spar rooms.

twilit 05-24-2014 03:55 AM

How did the game prevent people from interfering if people can just walk in? Or was it not strictly 1v1 (more like a pk room)?

It's nothing like the systems of today. It was basically like a PK room, except you didn't drop items or lose AP. Prior to sparring rooms if you died during a "spar" which were unofficial, you still dropped bombs/arrows/rupees as well and you lost AP. There was no "start" timer or bomb or anything like that, just go in and have fun without fear of losing anything. There was an honor system and such, you know, players would say ready/set/go.

DarkKnight 10-27-2014 05:21 AM

Final bump for interest. I'd really love to see at least one of these towns released for nostalgia purposes, especially considering the fact that you guys have Crono as a level artist.

Sardon 10-28-2014 12:25 AM

this is hilarious this thread has been alive for 2 years probaly the one thing people keep talking about

anyway new towns new content would sound fun hats are good but they are not really important to people they just go to the hatshop and buy it and wear it and get bored in around 5 min

ideas: a warp ring system, i liked thors pc classics warp statue idea
so think of this , a quest obtainable item called the warp ring
should most likely be in my tower cus its like a magical tool
anyway in our curent towns their are warp statues in which you can warp to and instal warp statues in your house or guild house for fun( sold at handle furniture M.O.D)

changing an old building and giving it new features is cool
but making a new town in graal would be cool
or brining back avalon or destiny of course!

sorry bout my gramar im simply too lazzy

I don't think you'll see a new town/city for quite some time. The areas that are currently available will start to be built up instead. It just seems odd to work on expanding the world when what we have doesn't have much purpose.

But its so fun to run around in a new area for five minutes and then get bored and never go back

Howl 11-13-2014 01:32 PM

What about that igloo Rufus posted?

This would be a great place to explore by the way...especially the warehouses. I can just imagine dimly lit abandoned warehouses with dead coveyer belts with little bits of light coming in through the roof. Boxes with supplies strewn across the floor. Little bits and pieces you could buy. Blueish grey floors...each one would have a different layout. Going around in the endless labyrinth of rooms trying to find items for quests and freebies, oh my gosh, this gives me nostalgia for some reason. Don't even get me started on the Asylum (Quests to the max!)

Let's revive this thread.

deadowl 02-12-2015 12:17 AM

If you're going to bump this thread, you might as well repost the map image.

How releasing Babord could be pulled off:

* There's already a guild tower.
* Babord Shores and Happy Acres are a good RP areas, with Happy Acres being similar to Graal City PD jail.
* The warehouse district and docks would make for a good daily quest from the outset. E.g. delivering stuff from the warehouses to the ship (maybe there's a strike, you get employed as a scab, and the strikers attack you; maybe you have to sneak in and steal things for Captain Chimp without getting caught; there are a lot of themes that can be covered that involve manufacturing and shipping in general).
* You can extend the trade quest and throw in an RPS hat around Happy Acres, and/or add a quest similar to the flippers/snorkel.
* You can also implement the content in such that it wouldn't prevent any future vision for Babord.

DarkKnight 02-12-2015 04:43 PM

There's also a cute little market district for HAT SHOPS!

Why make new content when you can make hours of thoughts if Stephan's hammer thing is real, or are the zorbi's going to take over the world and eat your fish.

It would be ideal if these places could be brought back in a Portal 2 style kinda like they did with Big City. You will be able to tell time has passed but there's a new twist to an old location.

All this talk of Big City made me actually log in. I guess they're going with a Pompeii rather than an Atlantis this time.

DarkKnight 02-17-2015 01:50 AM

Destiny was, is, and will be my favorite town forever. I remember playing Classic in like 2006 when I was like 8 and this guy kept trying to show me how to get into the black market, haha.

deadowl 02-17-2015 01:56 AM

Found a neat video on Youtube!

The 2001-2002 map was when I started playing. I became the lead dev shortly after the 2k5 server wipe. Everytyhing 2k6-2k8 (between my sophomore and junior years of college) show my efforts as an admin. Didn't have anything to do with the 2k9 map and the second wipe. Had trouble recruiting scripters, but that shouldn't surprise anyone.

Bomys are lame, yeah. Humans, Zorbis, Trolls, and Gnomes are the most infulential races. If any of you guys glitched offmap into this cave north of MoD, you'd have seen the HOBBIT that used to be here!
