Only $60.00 a year? Only? Do you not realize that this is the most expensive console online service in the history of video games? That this is literally the ONLY console that requires you to pay for online services? And yes, it is the normal price of a game. Which is a lot of money. But why pay? The only advantage xbox live has over PSN is cross game voice chat. That's not worth $60.00 per year.

I also do not understand your DLC example, considering the DLC you are complaining about is common on a large variety of games these days, not just those PS3 exclusives you pointed out. Its nothing horrible. Your example of DLC also does not make sense considering you are comparing a few games from PS3's large exclusive library to xbox's notably small one. In other words, the Xbox's game library mainly consists of multiplatform games that can be found on PS3 and Xbox 360. The Xbox only has Halo, Gears, and Forza as established franchises. The rest of the popular games on Xbox 360 are all multiplatform. So there is no "forcing" anything considering the same DLC is on the xbox. Now if you're purely comparing the colossal mountain of PS3 exclusives to the 3 main exclusives on Xbox, Halo has some pretty snide DLC as well. Their map packs are $14.99 each and there are playlists you cannot access without them. Not to mention that you cannot do anything besides campaign and custom games without paying for xbox live.

If you can find ONE advantage to owning an xbox besides cross game chat, I would be surprised. The exclusives on PS3 are varied, fascinating, and entertaining, the system is more powerful, and it has free online.

60.00 a year isn't jack,do you realize that we're paying for slightly better graphics, better servers, and more/better exclusives content. Or even if PS gets an exclusive why does xbox always get it first?

Edit:Better security as well. Less hackers.

Also if you have real friends or friends you met on a game you'll have more fun, with a full friendslist, you can want to play a game and have certain friends that are playing that game. Maybe you just bought an xbox and played randomly online? That's kind of boring if you did.

After being an xbox live member for 4+ years I have never noticed any benefits in paying for Gold. They locked me in early though because of Halo 3 so I have simply continued to pay for it anyway.

Steambox anyone?

Steambox anyone?

You know, even if the Steambox doesn't necessarily compete with the raw power of the next gen consoles... it'll be totally worth it to have a console that uses my steam database of games. With consoles currently if I have a game on the PS3, I need to buy it again for the 360 if I want to play it on there with my friends(because **** cross-console multiplayer, despite how huge that would sell a game). Same goes for PC. I have all these games on my PC that I can't play on my consoles and vice versa. But if Steam made a console, I can buy stuff on my PC and suddenly I have it on a console. I guess it still doesn't change the fact I can't play with my 360 friends, but I find it more relaxing to sit down and game with a controller in front of my TV on a couch than gaming on my PC. Also Steam is messing around with a few games that have multiplayer across PS3 and Steam so that's also a plus if they keep going down that road.

The xbox doesn't have slightly better graphics. It doesn't have significantly better servers to warrant the price tag, or.... better exclusives. Better exclusives? Better exclusives? Did he really say that? I already stated my argument about how much more quality exclusives the competition has over the xbox. If you want to read that, go ahead and skip back a few pages.

The only argument that you can even place against PSN's security is the infamous hacking that happened.... over two years ago. The experience is very secure compared to xbox live outside of that singular event. Also, steam is very secure and another alternative to xbox live that is basically superior in every way in terms of online.

His last paragraph doesn't even make sense, you can have just as much fun with friends on PSN and Steam. He's making the argument that because more people buy xbox solely in the United States that it is better because its more likely that you will have friends to play it with. First off, not everyone lives in the united states. The Xbox sells terrible overseas. Second off, that is called bandwagoning. Its one of those things called illogical fallacies. It has nothing to do with the service or this debate.

Like I said earlier, the only significant benefits Xbox Live has to PSN is signing in on multiple accounts. There is literally nothing else that is better about the service, or the console. Heck, compared to Steam, it has literally zero benefits. Xbox Live is a downgrade compared to Steam. I don't see any logical reason to pay $60.00 a year for Xbox Live unless you have a serious addiction to Halo or Gears.

Lets not compare apples and oranges.

But they're not apples and oranges. We're comparing online gaming services to other online gaming services. The only difference between consoles and PCs is that consoles are a streamlined service that makes it easy for people to access gaming content without the hassle that comes with building a PC. But outside of complexity, they are practically the same when it comes to gaming.

I don't see your point, because even if I didn't compare steam and xbox live, my point about PSN and xbox live still stands. Steam was just another example adding onto that.

OK so why don't one person from each fan-base post a LEGITIMATE list of the pro's and con's of their favorite Online gaming service. I'll go with Xbox Live because that's my favorite. (Note: This is not comparing to other OGS's - This is only the good and bad e.g "It uses real money" is good, and this "It uses real money so everything is cheaper than Xbox/Playstation/Steam/Nintendo WiFi (wait WHY HAS NO ONE SAID NINTENDO WiFi!)

XBOX LIVE:
Pro's:
  • Gets Exclusive Content early.
  • Social interactions, such as messaging, talking with the kinect, and head phones.
  • Has the Halo series
  • Easy to find games
  • You can buy games
  • You can buy movies, music, and apps
  • You can connect it to Windows 8 (This is actually really cool for people like me who have Windows 8. It has LOADS of benifits)
  • You can customize your avatar with items purchased from the Store
  • The currecncy isn't real life money, so items are less expensive (most of the time). e.g. Skyrim.
  • Has a good security record.
  • Has good connection and download speeds.
Cons:
  • Can lag
  • Xbox has the red ring of death (This isn't really allowed to go on here but #yolo)
  • You can only buy it in 1 month, 3 months, 9 months, or 12 months.
  • Costs money.

Rexx 04-21-2013 02:33 AM

Actually using their own currency for XBL lets Microsoft confuse customers by not giving a straightforward price.
I have like 90 MS points I cant spend because nothing is that cheap so basically Microsoft is sitting on my money.

Nearly everything else in the pros PSN has also. They also dont charge you a fee to use services you're already paying a fee for. I dont use Netflix or Hulu anyway so it doesn't bother me.

The fact that it costs money is a con yet the opposing service can do almost all the pros for free makes that list look pretty bad.
