This would be ideal, but Graal doesn't make it easy to do such a thing. In my opinion, if it could be done, I'd rather see it make use of the lantern.

Having nighttime use a lantern would make the game far less friendly to newer players, as they may not have the lantern, making it impossible to travel at night, and depending on the amount of time nighttime lasts, making playing at certain times pointless unless you're at a tower or another place with constant activity.

And what do you disagree with MattKan?

I didn't say it'd be dependent, I'd say it'd make use.

Pix's weather system didn't lag and it had overlays and moving particles, now I'm not an expert in scripting but maybe something like that could be used for night in classic?

It has nothing to do with script efficiency(well it kind of does, depending on how they go about it), but with the fact first gen iPod's probably can't handle large transparent overlays and some simple looping.

Oh. Well....that's a good idea. Maybe it could serve to repel baddies at night?

Solution: Street lamps. Or lighting things on fire, that never fails in any scenario.

I like the idea, but something tells me a few more soundtrack items would be ideal for different times of the day. Perhaps silent at night, same original tune during the day, and different little tunes for morning and evening? Perhaps its time for a new contest to give some musically talented Graalians a chance to win a prize of some sort? (Unless the original musician is still available, it might fit better with the rest of the soundtrack.)

Not in favor.. This is a classic-style server, and there really is no need to start adding modern day equipment such as street lamps just because we would a source of light. I have to agree with Dusty's original idea that lanterns could be used at night. However, maybe it would be helpful rather than absolutely necessary. For example, lighting a lantern to help you see through fog in Swamptown at night easier.

Lanterns would only be used in a few places like in towns on a few corners or so. Now, leaving town. You might want to bring your lantern. As it will be quite dark. (But not that dark) As for music, I agree. After a while you get tired of someone spazzing out on the cello and flute.

There's been multiple threads about new soundtracks and apparently we can't have them because they would take up too much space. What's a few MB to anyone? The lantern thing is a good idea, although perhaps by street lamps they meant little lanterns hanging from sticks or something.

Possible, yet the thought was never clearly conveyed that way. Also, I completely agree to a couple MB being used for a new soundtrack for the adventure's sake. Unless an actual staff member can explain why MIDI or MP3 files take up too much space compared to a folder of a couple hundred hats consisting of GIFs, PNGs, and MNGs, I will continue to believe in the possibility of an expanded soundtrack.

At decent quality, a 1:00 MP3 track takes up 1 MB, so that's not bad at all. If they're loopable, a 30 second track'll sound decent enough giving you half a MB, and that's nothing.

@ First bold statement -- I agree, I'd really like to hear some music suited to the different times.

@ Second bold statement -- You must be crazy. True Graalians are capable of nothing less than perfect audio art :O

CHANGE THE ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK COMPLETELY IF IT'S TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE. NO ONE LIKES THE CURRENT ONE ANYWAY.

This. 10% of global suicides each year come from listening to this soundtrack.

Seriously. I can help make a new soundtrack if I had the soundfonts that Graal uses. Some tracks just suck or don't fit as well as they could. For example, the regular overworld song for Snowtown. I think it could use it's own song. The regular songs wouldn't work out at all at night, as flutes and cellos having seizures barely works during the day. How would it work at night?
