No artist is godly (it was only a hyperbole), and it's ridiculous to feel entitled to win a contest that's judged by other people

There's no excuse to use a previous year's broken or poorly made graphics when there are players working on clearly higher quality material.
There are 3 options I see to improve this situation - regardless of if chuckleheads are done with being judgemental and posting pictures of tablesalt or not, if people are complaining, it means something is wrong or they feel unfairly treated.
Spoiler
1.)Don't ask for submissions. This might seem counter intuitive, but clearly there is a dearth of material in game and players are being called upon to support the massive requirement for the nature of the christmas event. Instead of mocking, disappointing, and putting a rift in the community, just do all the work yourselves. Hire staff who are willing to work full time and generate only graphics of quality.
2.)Guide artists to acceptable outcomes Basically don't leave anyone wondering why their art is not acceptable. If there's a player who's pouring hours into creating something for free, there's value there. Even if it takes some time, they can be molded into an asset if treated correctly. That means working with inexperienced artists in order to cultivate their skills and point out where they went wrong. There should be staff assigned to reviewing and critiquing art instead of accepting or rejecting submissions. This goes across the board - uploads getting rejected for no reason creates all kinds of time being wasted. Sometimes hours of effort (for both players and staff) are wasted because a single pixel is out of place or transparent and no one takes the time to explain it to the player trying to upload. It's ridiculous.
3.)Review artist portfolios prior to submission I don't mind drawing. I enjoy it sometimes. But when there's a good portion of time given to any project without hopes of profit, it feels pretty lame to have absolutely no response relating to the effort put in. I spent more than 30 hours drawing for this year's christmas, personally, and have done so in previous years as well. You could prevent a lot of the negative feelings by simply requiring some sort of previous portfolio of work to be acceptable before players were able to submit. This would prevent people with no hope of getting accepted from wasting tons of time, in addition to fostering an environment of sharing and skills-advancement in the community.
TLDR? You guys need to learn how to give constructive criticism instead of being cynical. It will benefit you in the long run.

never enter a contest expecting to win. if youre putting time in, thats because you want to. everyone needs to remember the entire graal staff is made of volunteers, its pretty unreasonable to have them work full-time or cc every single submission

I spent more than 7 days on the tinfoil hat, don't act like 30 hours is a waste of your time.

Where is your "higher quality material?"
Here's some constructive criticism: take this as a failure point and accept that you didn't meet the criteria, and use this experience to do better next time. Would you like your participation trophy now?

I get that you're a little egoistic, but it's not about any one artist, here. I was suggesting that there is a lot of quality talent in the community that is being dismissed and getting disappointed while slap-dash antics with crappy old items are going on to make some one's life easier. But if you were actually interested in a dialogue and not just being a dork, you would have responded as such.

Absolutely. They would have been from an imposter - I made only one hat. Try to keep up, if you're trying to be offensive at least?

Not a contest, just an opportunity for players to submit their own content for a possibility of being added into the game. Don't let your ego get the best of you in rough times. All in all, just enjoy the holidays.

Kinda sucks for the others, some were pretty nice concepts. Didn’t like the minimal effort put into whoever submitted those animal ears since it’s generic and common in iClassic (don’t know how it was accepted). @ ark
Thanks!

post your work in your own gfx thread and get people to give you cc, post it in the progress thread, ask your mum. i dont get why you think the graphic staff have to give responses to each individual to why they didnt accept it.

I'm going to suggest you reread the posts. You're misinterpreting what has been said.

I honestly don’t see how I’ve misinterpreted it. You want the staff to hold your hand through the process? You think that all the successful artists this year haven’t wasted hours creating unused or discarded graphics? If youre going to complain about putting hours into unused work then you don’t deserve to win.
Stop whining about not winning a stupid competition and use the time more effectively to improve yourself as an artist.

@Jared9 Agreed you just need to practice a bit more.
