So, after I recently learned that Smogon revised the Generation 6 OU tier after the testing of the tier in the competitive scene for a few weeks and made new bans and unbans accordingly, the OU scene is surprisingly fun. With the nerfs to Drizzle, Sand Stream, and Drought, the ubiquitous weather teams (which made up ~60% of BW OU) are now less prevalent, and certain strategies such as weather stall are now not popping up in every game. The XY metagame has actually taken a turn for the better; weather, stall, and the entry hazard metagame are now pushed aside in favor of a more fast-paced, offensively-inclined metagame due to the discovery of new threats such as the likes of Talonflame, M.Gengar, and the unbanning of Genesect and Excadrill. I, for one, love the change since the BW metagame was so damn stale with weather teams every game, since it was the tried and true method of winning. In addition, I also love how the Mega evolutions were handled in-game and out. The limiting of the usage of M.Evos to one per battle was a great move, and doesn't make anything unbalanced (except M.Gengar and the M.Mewtwos) especially due to the fact that one has to forgo their item slot for the evolution. Though, I still don't agree with some of the changes like the nerf to Steel, nor the addition of Fairy and the widespread distribution of Prankster (****ing **** Prankster, OP as all ****). A few of my favorite Pokemon got hit too, like Breloom's Spore and Low Sweep getting nerfed, as well as Scizor taking a huge defensive hit by removing its Ghost/Dark resists opening it up to Gengar and Tyranitar. That's fine though, XY also introduced some that I really love, such as Talonflame (not because it has the word Talon, I hate the name actually) and Aegislash (****ing great in-battle concept), as well as the introduction of new abilities on older Pokemon (Contrary Serperior is hilarious). I'm starting to really like XY OU, and began laddering on Showdown and hit 1800 today. If anyone wants to do any XY battles on Showdown, let me know.

tl;dr/stfu talon I love XY's competitive scene after the discovery of new threats, revision of OU, and improved diversity in the metagame. The concept of Mega Evolutions are nicely balanced, but some are still overpowered and will hopefully be banned accordingly. Some of the new Pokemon are great. But, some of them are still annoying and ugly as **** (hi Klefki, **** off). Also, Gale Wings Talonflame is strong as hell - use him. I like parentheses.

Is Protean broken?

I'm not sure if the ability itself is broken, since, given a 4-attack set, the appropriate move will be very easily predictable and you can switch and KO to the new type accordingly. But, Greninja with Protean and a Life Orb all-out attacking set does look very strong due to its very high base speed which will (usually) outrun and kill the revenge killer with its acceptable attacking stats. But, its still very frail and once it KOs your Pokemon (or you get a pivot) and figure out its new type, any priority move should be able to OHKO it. For example, Greninja uses Stone Edge to KO your Skarmory. Greninja is now Rock-type. Choice Band Scizor or Choice Band Weavile come in and hit it with Bullet Punch / Ice Shard respectively, and Greninja is KO'd.

Greninja isn't actually that good, it's attacks do nothing. Water shurikan hits 2 times, and the best attack it has (so far) is water pulse, which does 60 power.

Greninja gets access to Hydro Pump, Scald, Dark Pulse, Blizzard, Ice Beam, and Grass Knot which gives almost unresisted coverage.
