Houston, TX Internet

Right now, At&t is scamming me. I have phone, tv, and internet through them. They're proven to be full of crap through all the years I've had them.
  • They basically gave us a free, but more expensive deal that would increase the speed of my internet. It didn't, though. They can't actually support the faster speeds, so it actually got even slower than it was before. Of course, they couldn't do anything about it except change to the other rate.
  • Every few months, the internet at my house goes berserk. It goes out 15+ times a day and At&t has to be contacted to "fix" the problem. It's an ongoing cycle and happens again every few months, though. So time wasted on the phone, etc. etc. etc.
  • As the company has expanded in my area, prices have gone up and customer care and speed have drastically decreased.
  • Right now, I'm getting about 2 mb/second (and my server is even off!) speed when I'm supposed to be getting 16-24 mb/second. That's plain ridiculous.
  • Oh, right. The only way they'll fix anything is if I agree to keep them as my ISP for another year.

I'm not happy with this at all. If you don't have At&t, don't get At&t. Heck, even my cellphone has gotten slower and slower lately. I want out of At&t, but here's the million dollar question:

What's better? There's plenty of you guys who live practically next door to me, so what internet service works (and doesn't work) for you?

Xfinity does the same to me. Except that I get ok speeds.

I had AT&T Internet and cable until yesterday, since I moved out of my old house into a gated community that has free Internet.

In New York, Verizon is pretty fast, I have it for phone, tv, and internet. It may bit a bit more expensive than others, but its worth the money.

I have T&T, I've had some good speed of over years but it sucks balls too.
Its good enough to deal with but it still sucks. That's probably what they were planning.

Verizon is the way to go. It's expensive, but you get what you paid for.

I also live in VA, and it is by far the best provider I've ever seen.

I have Verizon, in California, and the service is still terrible. But I have no experience with other services, so it may be the best.

Better than comcast, or xfinity, or whatever they call it. Xfinity and at&t seem to be in some sort of ad war against eachother...

2 MB/s is different than 2 Mb/s.

Sounds like you're getting what's advertised.2 MB/s=16mbps
Try making sure you dont have panda media booster running. If you do, uninstall it. That thing eats your bandwidth. Also isps tend to advertise the peak data rate-late at night the data rate is higher on cable when not as many people are using it.

b stands for bit and B stands for byte. In the context of data rate units, one byte refers to 8 bits. For example, when a 1*Mbps connection is advertised, it usually means that the maximum achievable download bandwidth is 1 megabit/s (million bits per second), which is actually 0.125*MB/s (megabyte per second), or about 0.1192*MiB/s (mebibyte per second).
