A few graphics I have made recently are here I will be adding more later but for now here are a few graphics I made.

and Ideas on how it can get better?

MattKan 10-27-2012 10:32 PM

Not bad

Kiwi 10-27-2012 10:33 PM

To much dithering. I think that's what it's called. The squares like a checker board.

Pixel Ravenix 10-28-2012 03:50 AM

Yeah that's dithering; But I like to use it when shading rough objects otherwise the shading looks plain it's a common technique. I guess I know what you mean and I'll work on it thanks for the input ^^

VinkaEuropa 10-28-2012 04:11 AM

They're a nice start. Firstly, try to get the perspective right, they are way too frontal-viewish, should be from a 45 degree diagonal perspective from above. Secondly, make them less of an ancient SNES graphic by adding a darker outline, so it'll have more definition and it'll come to life more.

Ok darker outline and they are all from a 45 degree angle It must be because of the light lines that you can't see it though I'll update the outlines and tell me if perspective is still off.

This better?

Nope, I think you should be using greater contrast between colours and the type of dithering you're using isn't doing you any justice, I played with your thing quickly and with a few quick adjustments it came out alright.
I really on played with the top surface and top draws. You could benefit from adding some kind of texture to the wood as well.

Pixel Ravenix 10-28-2012 06:44 AM

ahhhh I see thanks yeah I probably should of went that direction with the shading just got carried away with dithering

Also take note that dithering isn't just strictly checker patterns, see my attachment for an example. It's not exactly pretty but it shows there's alot of alternate methods.

alright thanks I'll use this and make something new using it as a reference

also, here's the DJ turntable with less dithering and a little more detal

LavaClaw 10-28-2012 07:56 AM

Just sayin', but dithering isn't the only way to shade.

DEFINITLEY not the only type, I find half the time it makes your object look worse

It really depends on the colors used and how you dither the object. For example

Definitly better. Though you should make the depth of the closet a big greater/longer, it looks a bit thin, which gives more of a frontal-perspective impression. Also go with Trixcta's shading, that is definitly better.

It doesn't hurt to use a different 'hue' for the darker brown for the shadow. Use a tinge of red or blue. It will make a BIG difference once you do this right. This is mostly the hurdle for beginners, using the exact same hue for brown here example, it makes it look too stale, no matter how great the shape, or detail in shading.

Good luck.

yeah I got carried away with dithering since I was just learning it I used to only use the type of shading that tricxta used but yeah I realize now there's a time and place for dithering and "normal" shading

and yeah that's what I was thinking it looks a bit thin

here it its I widened the top a bit and added more of a wood detail to it

I don't like the shading on the top of the tower to much contrast between the shades.

yeah I see it now I'm gonna work more on it now that I'm back.

all My GFX so far together

Tricxta 10-30-2012 08:02 AM

That groovy pattern really spoils it, you also need to define your edges better. I'd recommend using a light colour with a little dithering.

changed the computer table

cache 10-31-2012 12:08 AM

table looks alot better, maybe use some aa on the cords so they don't look so jagged. sorry if they're meant to look like that, but it's just a tip

Pixel Ravenix 10-31-2012 12:20 AM

nah nah they definitely are not lol I just thought they were so small no one would really see them lol i'll touch them up with some AA.

cache 10-31-2012 01:35 AM

awesome =3 details like thar are essential to a good piece

Yeah I see that too. The more detail you add to something the better and less plain it looks :) Thanks for the advice

Turkey I made early for thanksgiving what should I make next?

Lol, you realise you can import as a jpeg, export as a gif, run it through gif2mng and you've got yourself an 8-bit png. If you don't want people stealing it just slap a big dirty water mark over it.

Pixel Ravenix 11-01-2012 10:10 PM

yeah well the way I see it if they REALLY want it that bad they can go ahead and do all that for it lol. Besides a watermark would distract from it's beauty :B
