Best Anti Virus Program?

Yeah, so I've been trying to get this pop-up that occurs on occasions by trying different virus removal software. While doing so, this one Anti-Virus software called "HitmanPro" found a load of harmful items on my computer, one being a Trojan. I was like "Oh... ****...". The other virus programs I used (Anti Malaware Bytes, Norton) didn't find these. What is the absolute best anti-virus software you guys know of? I want to know if there's any other crap on my computer I don't know about.

Never ever use Norton

Never ever use Norton

I've heard a lot of bad things about it lol. My dad pays for a yearly $80 subscription, but I'm starting to think it's useless if it can't find any of this stuff on my computer.

I got you bro
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

It's free and the best in 2012
I am currently using it and its runs smooth and doesn't make my computer slower when I had norton or any paid antivirus

Thanks, I'll give this a shot and see what if it can pick up anything the other anti-virus softwares missed.

Mse, mbam and common sense.

common sense.

This only works if only you use your computer, sadly. Still great advice as always, but sadly not always applicable. And Norton is indeed useless, and in fact many people consider it an infection in itself. Avast! is what I recommend and install on everyone computers I work on, but you may need more than just a single scanner if you know you have infections, because different scanners have different levels of success with various infections, regardless of how good it may be.

The Doctor 11-01-2012 06:13 AM

Windows Defender.

Just kidding, Kaspersky is the best I've had. Bestbuy sold it to me, a one year subscription of Kaspersky Internet Security. The best I'd recommend for you is Kaspersky anti-virus, but I'd compare the plans, depending on what you want.

So true. Back when my entire family used a single desktop there would always be something wrong with it.
I've never had problems with my personal laptop that only I use.

OT: I've used Avast+Malware Bytes for the last year and I've had no issues.
I would also try out Advanced System Care for a little computer house-keeping. It's pretty good it just has a few pesky ads, search for it on CNET.

RedBoy786* 11-01-2012 06:44 AM

Norton sucks and will make your PC ultra slow.

T-10a 11-01-2012 07:30 AM

Microsoft Security Essentials is what I use. It does the job.

This (though in Windows 8, it's just part of Windows Defender now).

It works a treat, very low CPU usage. No ****y/unneeded features to bloat it up. I also use windows firewall.

I keep my computer safe mainly through networking (NAT + Reflexive ACLs at layer 3). I don't feel like dishing out for a paid antivirus when Microsoft does a a good job.

iWarp 11-01-2012 08:46 AM

i have symantec endpoint protection.

Tricxta 11-01-2012 09:04 AM

I'd recommend microsoft security essentials. It's pretty good at picking up stuff immediately.

LavaClaw 11-01-2012 10:48 AM

I just use AVG (premium) and what Dylan said, common sense. Haven't had any problems at all.

LiA 11-01-2012 01:15 PM

I use AVG & PC Tools Internet Security. AVG is okay, but PC Tools was a little harsh on my pc D;. Like everyone said in the above posts, Norton sucks. It basically killed & lagged my pc when I had it xD.

XENA* 11-01-2012 01:27 PM

Kaspersky PURE

Xavier 11-01-2012 02:42 PM

Malware Bytes is very good. Doesn't blow up in your face all the time.

Tyler 11-01-2012 03:56 PM

Thanks for all the advice/suggestions guys. I really appreciate it. If it's true that Norton does slow down your computer, then I'll try removing it and see if it helps my computer.

V. 11-01-2012 06:34 PM

AVG. It's free.

I used to recommend AVG but it has gotten worse over the years, and Avast! took its place. The above recommendations for Windows is also good, and I also install that(especially on slower computers) because it's much less bulky.

The Doctor 11-01-2012 10:33 PM

Try the Kaspersky trial. It's amazing. I found a key logger.

123tepig 11-02-2012 12:07 AM

I use Avast antivirus, no lag made, if I go to a harmful webpage, it aborts me from it with my permission, warns me of anything, tells of suspicious sites when I view them, does the job fairly well.

BboyEatsbacon 11-02-2012 12:09 AM

I personally use a combo of Kaspersky and MalwareBytes.

lmao, my brother works at Staples in the tech department and he has to recommend Norton when someone buys a new PC. It kills him inside lol

Same here.

Talon 11-03-2012 11:56 PM

Avast!, MalwareBytes, and the aforementioned MSSE are all solid anti-virus programs.

Simple 11-04-2012 05:22 PM

Avast! is brilliant. I'm still using the free version and I've had no issues so far.

Maxy 11-04-2012 08:11 PM

I used to have norton, now I wing it and have none

Ventus277 11-04-2012 11:43 PM

Hmm while this is up I personally use Norton 360, Runs more smooth than Kaspersky Pure did, without the annoyance's from time to time.

Pazx 11-05-2012 12:47 AM

Avast! is annoying as ****, it never stops talking to me and has the most annoying popups.

You can turn all of that off...

Davidbln 11-07-2012 06:37 PM

I'm using NOD 32 and Kaspersky on different PC's. Both are good, but Kaspersky uses too much RAM. Also F-Secure and Bitdefender are good. Maybe this antivirus rankings and reviews will help you to choose

Kaspersky doesn't take up too much RAM. I'll check next time I get on my PC.

T-10a 11-08-2012 10:35 AM

Also, get Malwarebytes. ;)
(For those who haven't been smart enough to do so)
