How's This Website Design?

Please give me positive or negative feedback to make my site better. I'll give a rep if it's good. It's better than my old one, I hope.

I've come across this idea looking at many website designs. I actually like this one.

Don't like the font and there's not much design there to judge.

Twinny 11-19-2012 04:47 AM

Are you using bootstrap there or just pretending to?

twilit 11-19-2012 05:01 AM

??? all i see is a background with "[sitename].com".. wheres the website?
and lol at second tab "Understanding Vertical-Align"

The Doctor 11-19-2012 11:29 AM

There's not much to judge because I didn't make the whole thing yet. Do you like the header design?

Oh. I googled it also and look at the examples. No, I didn't use bootstrap, I just though google's top nav bar was cool, so I wrote my own. It was fairly easy. I used lists and styled them.

Neat, although it's simple- I like the concept.

I've never been really good with CSS, the positioning already screws me over.

The styling for the menu was messed up until I learned to set the margin to 0. I dislike CSS, but it's the only way I can get a modern-looking website. By the way, I have over 150 lines of CSS just for the styling so far.

My website is compatible with all major browsers. Only a few minor browsers are not compatible. I used browsershots.org. It's a handy tool.

So far, I have plenty of things done, although it may not seem like it.
[X] Menu bar
[X] Header
[X] User Box
[X] Signup, Login, and Signout Script
[X] Styling

o. hmm the header could be more eye-appealing. Or is that stuff going to be added later to the background above header? (like how there are graal buildings at the top of the background on Graalians) Other than that, it looks good. I like the right corner, "Welcome___..."

and 150 lines of CSS seems impressive. Im just now learning to use CSS; last year in web design class we didnt use it.

To be honest, I don't know if I want an image heading. I'll look into it. Yea, styling takes a lot. The top black menu took about 15 lines.

I added a simple popup login menu. It looks quite good.

Rexx 11-20-2012 05:57 AM

updated picture or link?
Also what is the purpose of this site may I ask?

VinkaEuropa 11-20-2012 05:59 AM

Kinda terrible.

There comes a point when more lines is better...than as you move forward, less becomes better again :)

Obviously, I can't see the source but minimal is best especially if you intend to serve content to mobile devices (think of the poor 2g/3g connections!)

Things like making cache-friendly content, using CDN resources (e.g. jQuery hosted by Google).

A good website is a minimal website :)

I really like the top design! Great job on the header! Whats this website for? Just curious :)

Or perhaps breaking up the CSS into other files? For example, I could do usr_box.css, header.css, content.css, signin.cas and do forth.

I plan on using a mobile design (like iWebkit) for my site, or make one. This will solve the connection problem. As for the cache problem, I can't really decrease the amount of CSS. I need every line or else the margins will be out of place.

Using a background color rather than an image works great for saving some to load the page, so I'll use a background color in CSS.

I don't really want to say until everything's done.

(It's not going to be a forum, FYI)

I've combined the header files to make one big chunk. I've accomplished a messaging system, all that is needed is a compose button. Next, I plan on improving the Signup script. I will do captcha, email verification, and re enter password. I already md5'ved the password field. I've changed the order of the menu buttons and the header and changed the font. Tell me what you think!

The messaging center displays unread messages first, and read messages next. They are ordered backwards.

I really think I should change the sign in popup. Who agrees? Should I change the color scheme for the popup? Also, I need ideas for the messages table.

*The login cookie expires after an hour. I think I should have an option to set the cookie forever*

Don't like the blue glowing effect of the login thing.
