New Winter Tileset

If you've been on Graal lately you would have noticed the winter tile set. Its great, but theres some problems.

In graal city, and probably everywhere else, some trees are still green, and some are partially green.

Theres snow in caves, which is kinda weird.

Houses and guild houses dont have snow in them, and it looks kinda weird when bushes and the tall grass is white.

Theres a few other small graphical errors but these are just the major ones.

Winter 11-24-2012 03:10 PM

This happens every year. My explanation for the trees: Evergreens!

I remember last year when I was online during the tileset change. The playerhouses took a little bit longer to change over. I'm sure someone just forgot or something, and they should be updated soon. If not, send feedback.

Tyler 11-24-2012 03:19 PM

Maybe the snow missed a few spots ;)

Nikita 11-25-2012 02:51 AM

They changed the tileset again a couple hours ago, now there is patches of ground and blue bushes. o.0
I liked the other one better :3

Crag 11-25-2012 02:53 AM

To fix the green tree issue, staff simply have to edit and re-upload one tree-top graphic. But they are too lazy to do so.

Bin, you post so many negative posts facing in the direction of our administration... Staff aren't always at fault... You just may think they are. Tilesets are usually made up of a single file, such as the one I attached. Changing just the one tree can mean changing the entire tileset file and forcing everyone to re-download the packet. Who knows? Maybe the green tree problem is your client unable to successfully download the actual uploaded graphic. Perhaps a newer staff member is doing it this year to get more experience, and he or she is just a little confused with file placement/client downloads.

On the other hand, I don't know exactly how file downloads work on the iPhone or the Facebook clients. I'm too used to the Graal Client. I assume it works similarly, but if anyone finds problems in my post, feel free to correct me.

its true and the file downloading is actually the same. but all they have to do is change the treetop.png image. in case they got treetops in insides without using the winter tileset - just add another green treetop image for them. it shouldnt be that hard and also easy to manage

Can you stop with your negative-nancy crap when you don't even have any clue how the servers work?

Ah, thanks. Like you said: In case they are able to easily fix the glitch, someone should send a feedback in-game and ask for the message to be passed onto an LAT member.

i prefer messaging rufus :P and actually you dont need a lat member as the file would be overwritten on a reupload. the lat would only be required for the insides if they arent supposed to have snow :P

If you can walk behind the tree top, then it is not part of the tileset. This is why only the tree tops that you can walk behind are the ones that are still green. It's a separate image that staff is too lazy to fix.

Or missed, and would like to be informed of your *beneficial* knowledge. Care to help, or just watch and scoff?

I've feedbacked the issue and posted it here. There is no other excuse.

Rufus 11-25-2012 07:21 PM

Are the trees still 'broken' or what? I'm pretty sure they were 'fixed' yesterday.

I am sorry but you see, when you feedback something it won't magically be fixed. Someone has to go and correct it. Now classic is already short on devs so I can bet you that the person supposed to fix it just wasn't available.

They were, along with pretty much everything else excluding guild houses.

Bin 11-25-2012 07:35 PM

I could fix this in 5 minutes. Inexcusable.

tell us exactly how you would and how you use rc to do it, how you update the tileset, and how you do the uploading....

The tileset doesn't need to be updated. This is one file called treetop.png, which sits above the "stumps" of trees to allow the effect of letting a person walk behind the tree top.

All you have to do is, with the current tileset on, find a tree on the tileset that doesn't use treetop.png. Take a screenshot. Crop the photo and remove the background. This should make it the same size as the green treetop.png, but some adjustments might be necessary to make sure they overlap exactly. This is not complicated stuff, anyone with minimal Photoshop knowledge could do this easily, and it wouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

Then upload via RC. Oh wait, you need a staff member that actually gives a damn for that part.

They alread have a winter tree top graphic

Oh my god dude, then the solution is even simpler:

JUST RENAME THE WINTER TREE TOP SO IT HAS THE SAME FILE NAME AS THE GREEN TREE TOP, AND REUPLOAD!

Higbey 11-25-2012 10:54 PM

tried to have that in the whole void project, so the walls of spikes could seem to grow over time, all that would need to be done is replace the last spike stage image, like spike1 with spike2, and when the player gets to it the file will change, as if it just grew when the player got there, and this way the spikes could grow with each of the 5 stages i had, and the rifts could also use this to open more and more each stage, so over the months the void could progress without the graphics needing to be manually replaced in the same spots each time.

xor told me they cant do that....

Bin, the trees are already fixed! Rufus was probably right about it being done yesterday.

On another note, the entire overworld is different than the past two years. I like it better. Kudos to whoever was in charge of it this year! :)

The trees are still "broken" around Yorktown. More specifically the horse race, didn't see the rest.

No, they're not.

Belle Isle is kind of a mess at the moment, as almost all the trees there are server-side, so they're all green. The rocks are green, and the one tree that looks unique on the server (it may be a vine, not sure) near the boat that's by the blue patio isn't white (Can someone post a picture?).
