I tried my best on Graphics Gale. Yes its a heart.

Shape is okay, I would work on more logical shading though.

Shading sucks...any tips? I tried to use a tip hadi gave me "pretend a sun is in the corner"

I don't see a heart like that being used. It isn't 3D enough(Do Not Overdo 3Dness), and it definitely just flat out isn't finished.

Well I don't really intend this heart to be used for anything. It's more of a test subject to improve my skill in pixel art and more specifically shading.

Anyway, how can I finish it?

The colors aren't really blending. (Make the shading lighter)

What colors would you recommend I use?

Anything that isn't that dark.

I think you gotta visualize the heart as some kind of texture. Plastic, metal, etc. That way, you can work towards a more realistic shine.

Since you're starting off, I'd try to reference a photo for where to place highlights and shadows. As for the color, it's super red. I'd try a slightly more gray red; not like in the picture I linked, but like in the Graalians forum browser icon, the ying and yang symbol. That kind of red; not too dark, not too intense. I mean, you can still have intense colors in a piece, but in small increments so it's not overpowering.

Here is what I meant. Also should've mentioned to make the shading flow a bit more.

Honestly I don't like using Graphics Gale, using Gimp or Paint.net is easy :P

Graphics Gale ain't bad. A bit complicated at first, a beginner like me probably be like "@#!#?!"

Try to remember where your light source is, and how the thing you are designing would look in real life, texture and color plays a huge role in your graphics.

Someone from Saturation told me that the light source in Graal illuminates from the left. How does the shading look? Note:Shading isn't completed for the second row.

Well if you are going with the light shining on the left, then there should be a brighter red where the darker red should be. Since the light is shining on the left, it's bright color should be where the dark red is, and the dark red should be more towards the right.

Crap I totally screwed up. Scratch that left ****, the light source comes from the right.

Well there should still be a brighter red on the right side, and maybe the darker red more towards the bottem becuase that is the part that doesn't get very much light.

Yeah I really have trouble with the first shade.
