Railways will be back

Dear god, I see many people flipping out about the railtracks being gone and demanding refunds...

It will be back. It was removed because the old system was horrible and in my opinion, useless since it was a maze just to navigate the track system. So I am going to completely redo the track system to hopefully make more sense, but it wouldn't have been possible to finish before the Spring update so it will be added back later and completely redone from scratch to make it more efficient and useful.

So please, be patient. Hopefully it will be worth the wait of going a week or so without a draisine.

Santa Claus 03-02-2013 09:27 PM

Wooo. That system was so crappy and not even planned out in the start.

Glad to see we have a brave soul to fix it!

Haavard 03-02-2013 09:28 PM

Great ^^
Add some signs along the railroad saying which town you are moving towards please :)

This is intended, yes :) I want to make it so traveling on the draisine is faster than walking(because the old system made it where sometimes it was just faster to walk since it took you along such long... nonsensical routes), and so that it's easy to know where a track is going to take you.

iHot 03-02-2013 09:49 PM

I got 2 drasines for Christmas so I'm looking forward for the new Railway system Dusty!

Zen 03-02-2013 10:06 PM

Thanks Dusty.

Rufus and dusty: teaming up to save the day! (er, make Classic nicer) :D

Blueh 03-02-2013 10:09 PM

Me when I see the railroad gone: YAAAAAAAAAYYY! :D

Me when I see this thread: D:

Rezon 03-02-2013 10:50 PM

Sort of off topic, is anyone else lagging extremely badly?

Must be due to the update, im thinking.

It's due to 1800 players all downloading large images. It'll go away once things settle.

HON3Y BADG3R 03-02-2013 10:58 PM

I'd like to see the station in graal city. There would be little holes with the tracks saying BELLE or YORK. You would then put your drasines on and you would warp to the track where the city is. Kinda like the underground tunnels in AC Brotherhood.

topsamman 03-03-2013 02:12 AM

thanks and good luck ;)

Dino 03-03-2013 03:47 AM

Thank you Dusty!!!

ArtaXerXes 03-03-2013 06:17 AM

An organized, quick, railroad will be great! Maybe there could be train stations with fenced off, no pk, tracks to ride on?

Get refund, spend it on a hat or a new horse that they wouldn't have bought without the refund.

A week later, the railroads are released, and the players buy another Drasine.
More money spent ^^

Craig 03-03-2013 05:38 PM

Bet the price will increase by 5000, wouldn't be a surprise.

*Elderly voice* You damn kids have it so easy nowadays! Back in my day, we ain't have none of 'dem fancy-schmancy railway-ma-doo-hickeys or any of 'dem mounts! We had to walk miles and miles to get to wherever we wanna go. Lanterns had purpose in those days! >:|

*rambles on* Lousy ungrateful kids...>:|

For those curious, this is the layout of the tracks:

http://i.imgur.com/s1t4Xmn.jpg

They will circle the outskirts of the overworld. However, there will be a central hub station in Graal City. Here you will go underground and there will be tracks that go in different directions. These tracks will meet up with the outer track system in the caves(as to not have an excess and confusing system on the overworld). So while the overworld system seems bare, most of the navigation will be done underground... of course with signs to tell you which track goes where.

PennyShine 03-03-2013 11:34 PM

Looks much better than the other railroad system! Nice job!

Zerxus 03-03-2013 11:51 PM

Awesome gj :)

Blueh 03-04-2013 12:05 AM

Before it was just a jumbled, lethargically twined anaconda of steel and rudder. Now you've created a well organized super system of transportation. It's not like anyone is gong to miss those unnecessary loops and twists of the train.

Nicely done :)

HON3Y BADG3R 03-04-2013 12:37 AM

Well organized! I absolutely love it! I suppose station is where old info kiosk was :D

Craftz 03-04-2013 12:44 AM

meganey98 03-04-2013 09:19 PM

Yes! New railroads!

Xavier 03-04-2013 10:53 PM

Seriously, thank you. The only use I had for the railroad before was Graal City to Snowtown, though it really wasn't even faster than the pathway anyway.

Concerning this image, would it be possible to add some sort of support/bridge/structure graphic over the gap to give it a bit more realism? I'm no graphic artist, otherwise I would volunteer a sample.

I agree.. I'd like to see a little bridge. Little details make the whole game anyways..

I'd like even an updated skin on the train. Be so cool.

It does sound realistic, but it would block the pathway to get to swamp.

Doesn't need to be solid.

To me it looks like the railroad is floating, looking at the shadows and no shading showing a slant.

Not if it was an arched bridge. :)

I like that xD

Blueh 03-05-2013 03:01 AM

Maybe you could add brackets on both sides of the suspended tracks so it looks a bit more like a bridge but you'd still have that gap opening in the middle.

You can afk on draisine, it would be nice if you made it so you stop at a town so you can reach a town while you go brb.

It won't take that long to get from one point to the next, hopefully.

The possibility of having a docking rail is there... but the problem would be getting placed in PK zones(like Swamp Town).

Also, the rail system is a little more complex as far as navigation goes(while there is an exterior round-about system, there will also be a center hub that introduces various intersections when it connects to the round-about), and there's no way to really tell the Draisine to go in a specific direction, so that's an issue.

HON3Y BADG3R 03-05-2013 07:15 AM

I know many of us have trust in your plans. Instead of a huge rr, will there be stations with fast travel?

Yami 03-05-2013 07:25 AM

first thought that came to mind when seeing the railroad gone,

"There is no ugly Railroad!"

On a railroad, if one pushes the directional arrow in the opposite direction of their path, it turns around. I recall about a year or two ago (I can't remember too well) when I friend of mine had a split-off of in their railroad inside their guild house. When I held the directional key of the direction of the split-off before I reached it, it took that direction instead of continuing to go straight.

I seem to recall that it's possible, but I may be wrong.

you kind of could, depending on the direction of travel. atleast on g2k1
