Bug Hotspots
 

So I was wondering were people have been going to bug farm lately since oasis is empty and it is now spring again. The only fairly good place I've seen is bottom of swamp town to catch dragonflies. There is also an occasional mantis behind the castle.

There's a lot of grasshoppers around the cliffs towards snowtown and onnet.

I see a few mantis' in between swamp and graal city

The cliffs by deadwood usually have a few butterflies and at least 4 fireflies.

But you want a real hotspot? Check the island below belle. I swear there are about 9 mantises, 11 ladybugs, 3 grasshoppers, and usually one butterfly. Too bad it's inaccessible...

Ah.. Ill try my luck there. And ya it does seem like the bugs like to stay where no one can get 'em. >.> I need a longer net.

I recently had Jazz get on and tweak bugs a bit. Many bugs were either getting trapped way off on the outskirts of the map or just drifting away to distant levels. The problem with this is that the bugs weren't despawning unless caught, which meant for bugs that every inaccessible bug there was no new bug to take its place, slowly dropping the bug population.

So Jazz made a few tweaks to hopefully keep the bug population in a steady state. Butterflies despawn when they hit the outskirts of the map(butterflies were the worst offenders) and bugs like the mantis were tweaked to lower the distance they look for bushes, which should stop the huge migration going on below Belle.

I also asked him to give bugs a lifetime, so bugs that live a long time automatically despawn and spawn a new bug. Not sure if he ever got around to it though. Hopefully these changes keep a nice flow of bugs going.

Okay, the problem was that the very bottom tip of Belle island(like the bottom 10 tiles) was actually the same level as the very tip of the land to the south of Belle. Since every level of Belle is designated for spawning bugs, many of them spawned down there instead of actually on Belle. I removed the offending levels from the spawner and also made an NPC that despawns bugs when they enter a specified area, so I can place them at areas where bugs tend to congregate and make sure they don't collect there.

Isn't it that the more players online the more bugs spawn?

Belle and castle area also have a lot of mantises, a few grasshoppers, and a ladybug occasionally. But it still doesn't have as many bugs as the island below belle used to.

Also, did the spawning rate of butterflies go down after they were tweaked? They seem a lot more uncommon now.

There's usually a bunch of rare butterflies around Master Li's Forest.

Ya there is definitely more bugs around castle.. and I actually saw a bug on Oasis.. just as it was flying into the water.

They are everywhere but inside, open your eyes a little more.

Occasionally there are. I used to find lots of butterflies by the Cathedral but it seems like they've gone somewhere else.

There's some ladybugs wandering around occasionally.

Would be cool if the community tried to make a map that shows where they go to grab certain bugs.

That's quite easy, actually. Except when it comes to butterflies. I would list where most of them can be found, but for some butterflies it's a matter of simply being there at the right time.

Here's just to use as a key for the map once constructed based off of my knowledge and experience. These are normally where I find these bugs the most

Grasshopper - Any regular grass or dirt tiles excluding Snowtown
(Black) Ladybugs - Onnet Town, Eastern Li Forest/Yorkton Border, Belle Isle
Mantises - Outskirts of Swamptown near the bridge, Belle Isle, Onnet Town, Eastern Li Forest, Balamb, Yorkton, Castle, Oasis
Dragonflies - Swamptown, Balamb
Fireflies - Onnet Forest (possibly Deadwood or whatever it's been renamed. I haven't been on to check), 'Bees Knees'
Spiders - Onnet Forest (possibly Deadwood)
Worms - N/A
Karner/Blue Morpho - 'Bees Knees', Oasis (these are only where I've found most of them; they are scattered elsewhere)
Monarch - Graal City, MoD (scattered else where)
Ringlet - Onnet, Li's Forest, Southern Swamptown/Deadwood (scattered elsewhere), MoD, Belle Isle, Mountainous regions
Small Blue - Southern Swamptown/Deadwood, Mountainious Regions
Clouded Yellow - MoD, Space between Swamptown and Graal City (scattered elsewhere)
Emperor - Onnet, MoD, Belle Isle (scattered elsewhere)
Peacock - Oasis (scattered elsewhere)
Argias - Oasis (scattered elsewhere)
Great White - Onnet, MoD, Graal City, Li's Forest, Mountainious regions, Swamptown
Tiger - To my knowledge, Li's forest and Oasis (I haven't found them elsewhere)
Green Hairstreak - Belle Isle, Swamp Town, Railroad Tracks (outside), Deadwood, Southern Montanious regions
Swallowtail - Graal City, MoD, Belle Isle, Li's Forest
Pillbug - Railroad Tracks and Caves

Thanks Blueh I'll see if I find anything. And yes, you can find many fireflies in deadwood, you just see a lot of them on the cliffs

Swamptown is great for dragonflies. Onnet Forest is the best for spiders. Last but not least, if you could catch bugs in my house it would definitly be a bug hotspot.

York is an amazing place for butterflies and ladybugs,also the onnet forest has some great rare insects and fireflies! Go catch some :)

I'll do it if nobody else does it by the time Easter is over!

In the onnet forest, 10 spiders spawning every minute, 5 fireflies and 1 blue butterfly.

Just found a tiger butterfly in mod. And Blueh, I think you're missing the green hairstreak butterfly.

I'll add it to the list real quick.
