Just a question for the iPhone players(who started playing with the iPhone version)... any idea why Graal is named Graal?

GraalOnline was originally named "Zelda Online," but was changed shortly after because of copyright issues with Nintendo.

Grails, Graals; the original version was based around finding the four Grails

Thats why this game looks a lot like Zelda

Cuz Zelda is a classic RPG game. I wouldnt want to play an online version of it lol. The name would have ****ed off a lot of people who enjoy Zeldas uniqe gameplay system

... you do know that the only thing that changed was the name, right? The gameplay is exactly the same as Graal. If you wouldn't want to play Zelda Online you wouldn't want to play Graal.

I'm saying the name would have turned away many fans of the Zelda series. Never said the flow of the game wasn't different lol.

Not really; I am a huge fan of Zelda. I found Graal by googling(though I might have been using yahoo or ask jeeves back then...) "Zelda Online" and well... here I am 10 years later.

Through Graal I also got a huge fan of zelda. Since I now finally found a GameBoy emulator for the iPod I´m so proud to be able to play at least Minish Cap on my iPod ;)

Zelda is more of a puzzle game where it takes brain. Graal is more of a contest. Who has the best avatar, pk's, spars ect. that was the point i was getting at :p

The original Graal population were drawn in by the "Zelda Online" description of this game...if you play A Link to the Past you'll see that it's almost exactly the same.

No, iPhone Graal is about showing off your avatar ect... Originally Graal had quests, but when they made the iPhone Classic they were too lazy to actually make any content and just gave you all an empty playerworld to run around in. Thus all you have to do is talk, dress up and pk/spar. Now, I'm not saying that's bad. In fact, that's what Graal boils down to. The old quests were horrible and buggy and more of a chore, but it indeed is not the same thing you guys are playing(because there WERE puzzles, and there were quests). However, most MMO's boil down to chatting, looking good, and PvP :)

hehe, I do not exactly know the "History of Graal" per say so thank you for sharing that with me. But I still think GraalOnline sounds better then Zelda Online

Turned them away? If I was a fan of a game I would certainly try an online version of it. Even if the name didn't appeal to me, I'd at least TRY it.

well, if you really want to see the grails, go to the graal cathedral and you can see the 4 graals there, while the sprites and gameplay was ripped and slightly edited, that doesnt mean it would be exactly like zelda, and when the eurocenter interns (Remi and Marion) and Stefan finish up the dungeon quest it will make the game alot more fun, and hopefully make it easier to earn gralats while having fun, the hats and morphs are just filler material i guess to keep the game profiting while this stuff is being made.

you tell me about it, you die, your respawn across the map, and the Overworld was scattered out if you played the original graal full of tileerrors and in the yoshi pub thing you find pokemon and princess Zelda O.o zodiac in my opinion, is the best graal server if you're a hardcore rpg gamer if you like pvp and working hard to get better

I Used to develope on reborn and the pictures cat just showed was from the original graal game Stefan released in 1998 I think anyone here played graal 3D? Lol I also played graal gameboy color (it was lame)

I played the game it was nothing but crap. stinkybear.net>graal the adventure and find Old Stuff to download old graal games and graal 3D, if u have a gameboy color emulator u can even download graal gameboy color which Stefan planned to be a million dollar project lol

I heard that Zelda Online was something for his "final exams" or whatever (still in java) and that he decided than to increase it.

In the read mes for graal the original he wrote a note saying this is my project that my friend (I'm guessing unixmad) had convinced me to do and the gold version will be released for 19.99 shortly

No, he joined with unixmad later after financial trouble. I doubt he knew him back when he first made it.
