Spring GST 2013
 

Any news on when GST is? I need to know who's going to be able to make it on my team and see how much practice we need if it's close. My guess is April 27th, but could someone confirm a date for GST?

Registration will likely be up on Sunday, and then registration for iDevices will close on Friday, and Mixed will close on Saturday an hour before it starts.

There's nothing stopping you from organizing your team within your guild and practicing right now though.

It's when You and 6 others go up againts 7 other people from their guild and battle it out and win some stuff and yeaa:0

No, it's a 5v5 match with whoever wins 2/3 matches. The other 2 members a backups, if a main sparrer cannot attend.

Every time there's a GST my guild is like "we're going to practice immediately to get ready for the next one!" As always, we've yet to start practicing :(.

The most boring and overhyped event in Graal history. Basically what happens is you organize a group of 5 people who stress and experience a huge imbalance in emotions weeks before this tournament takes place, and you practice this "guild sparring" thing with them, which is a 5 vs. 5 "spar" that is completely disorienting and rarely entertaining.

gst is the only fun thing left in iClassic, the only people that stress are the tryhards.

In Graal history, there are way more events which are boring, though the GST isn't boring, no way. It actually is the reason why some others and I get on Classic iPhone, to challenge other players.

It's a big event but I can see why it's not fun for people. It takes a few hours to host, and there's quite a bit of waiting between spars, also since it's quite popular you're sparring in a laggier than usual environment which makes it hard for players to spar and hosts to moderate the match properly.

Exactly what I meant, of course there are some factors making it rather "unenjoyable" but those factors are only minor ones.. I mean waiting.., a bit of lag? While waiting you can do something else and watch ya screen, and the pinch of lag which'll show up won't affect you that much and you have a nice excuse aswell.. but at all, how this can't be fun?

I didn’t want to start a whole new thread for a simple idea so im a put it here since it relates to the gst. Is there any way to do a numbering system in the gst viewing room so they can be added to the matches taking place. I find myself missing spars do to the fact that I don’t which spar box is being used for the spars.

I would like to see an actually use of the core/subs sence it randomly pick up the ones to join, maybe add some classes?

It's obviously just an opinion, but for multiple reasons. It lasts so long and is incredibly laggy. I don't enjoy waiting an hour between spars. I actually don't enjoy guild sparring as a whole, but I'll do the GST because there is rarely anything interesting going on with iClassic. I came from PC Graal where team-based sparring is tag team, and guild sparring is very random and disorienting to me.

The reason above all others is because the outcome of this event is nearly predetermined before a single spar takes place, and that's because iClassic is filled with cowardly and unconfident players who will do anything required to win a hat and statue that no one will see. No one seems to care about proving they have a better team of friends and loyal guildmates. US seemed to be the only guild who never just randomly recruited come the GST, and they've won the most. It's embarrassing to see how many people nervously hop between guilds, stress, and treat the GST as if it is the most glaring accomplishment that they could ever achieve on Graal, when really it's just supposed to be a tournament that guilds enter to show who has the best. And, a team that randomly slaps together players the week of the GST is not a "guild" to me.

TL;DR: It's slow and not competitive to me. I have trouble finding guild spars enjoyable overall. Desperate guilds will stack players, enter multiple guilds, and so forth, just for a chance. While that is completely legal and fine, it's just not really my style. What accomplishment is there in winning with a team that obviously should win?

Just further commenting on this point, based on recent evaluations:

• People seem quite pleased with burning bridges and damaging their "friendships" to hop guilds for this tournament. A good example would be Kentaro, who (from my outsider observations) seemed pretty close to Ruthless and was a member for a very long time.
  All it took is one person to ask him to join another guild's GST team and it's as if he has abandoned an entire group of friends because he has zero confidence in his own ability and the ability of his team. It's tough to respect that.
  
  
• Several players are going out of their way in desperate attempts to get teams disqualified. Is it because they are intimidated? Is that really how you want to win a tournament? Just from personal experience, Junior and Victoria have been begged to join my guild for the GST. Both of them are 100% aware that they are banned and would get us DQed. They either do not care or they are attempting to intentionally get the team DQed (for the benefit of a guild both of them belong to).
  Victoria has even gone out of her way to boost a 10:1 record in some sad attempt to appeal to me. She has even tried to pretend to be and take on the personality of someone who I asked to join Alumni in the past (PK). It's really sad to see.

So, props to any guild who doesn't mass or randomly recruit on the week of the GST. Some people desperately want a statue and a hat because they feel as if it will validate them in the sparring community, and others want to prove they are good sparrers and have a cooperative guild.

With all respect, but this may seem like a hatred-speech, or something like that.

Personally, I don't really care about those people - because I don't play it, means it's fun for me, no matter with whom I am, or against. At the end, I had my fun, even if I needed to wait an hour for the next spar, had a latency of 400ms at the beginning or faced delayers/laggers - it's a nice experience for me everytime, and I make new friends at the end.

Nice points T-Daddy but really some people actually do it for fun with a group of friends and don't give a damn about there stats (me). I don't know how many Gsts you've been in but the lag is really not that bad, it's just awful at swamp because of all the people watching and what not. I agree with Goat, if you're stressing over the Gst you're a try hard desperate for fame on the game. Imo Gst is the best event on iClassic and I always look forward to it. It's pretty fun. And yeah everyone knows Victoria is wack.

I like my team that has stayed together through a few tournaments.
Even if we lose in practice I completely trust all of them.

But didn't you concede and abandon your own guild that you brought to iClassic, which was possibly the most successful and important guild in the history of the entire game, in order to more exclusively join a competing guild? That's kind of exactly the type of thing I am criticizing.

I didn't have a problem with the skill level of people in my guild at all. They were almost all iclassic players and each GST a large portion of the team would leave during the week of the event. It was too much to recover from by quick recruiting. Didn't really want to do quick recruiting at all. Also, I don't think I'm really considered a guild hopper being in one guild longer than anyone in graal.

When in mother we had better chemistry and put in more practice than probably any other team. It was a bigger deal to leave them temporarily than to leave baddies, which changes team members several times a year. The people I consider core members that were in the guild for a long time stopped playing years ago.

Thallen should do a GST alone and get into the finals.

Only Comyt can do that.

US used to really pick apart guild sparring and sparring in general to the bare minimum, the skeleton of the game so that we may understand it fully. This included numerous scrimages. Like you, I cannot think another guild would have been brought up stronger and more put together than we were. And I sure hope every guild with any intention of success should feel the same way. That's called teamwork. :]
