i'd like to be an architect, and design an iconic / significant building somewhere in the world, like the empire state building, auckland sky tower, sydney opera house - places like that.

I work in metal fabrication right now (pretty much a bunch of custom metal work, including welding.)
The number 1 pet peeve of all the people i work with is when they hear someone say they want to be a "Welder"
You can become a licensed welder but you are much better off also taking a millwright, machinist, metal fabrication, tool/die making or anything metal related course. You want more skills than simply being able to weld.

But metal work is a a lot of fun and a great career path to chose.

Gotta love having money xD Something I would recommend is getting into stocks. That's how my dad's parents could pay for his Uni degree, and they had a lot of money over for trips around Europe :3
