Windows 8
Not too sure what to think about, I see negative and positive reviews, but mostly negative. What's your personal opinion on Windows 8? I'm thinking about getting the HP Pavillion 17.3" Laptop, and it runs on Windows 8.
|
Na, get one of these, man.
|
Agh, I hate Apple Products, and I dislike Macbooks.

I dislike Windows 8 and I hope they go back to the traditional style in Windows 9.
Its obvious it was designed with touch screens and tablets in mind. |

It is made for tablets, but that's not to say it isn't functional on a normal laptop. You just need to get used to it.
|
The only way you can really get it anymore is if the manufacturer lets you customize your laptop online. I know gaming laptops like ASUS RoG and Alienware still let you get it.
Most online retailers let you filter results by OS as well so that should help. But no you're not going to find Windows 7 preinstalled in stores anymore. |
I use windows 8 for school and its really annoying. Plus for example, if you were to play games on it, a few games aren't windows 8 compatible
|
After looking further, I found a Windows 7 Acer- Aspire V3 17.3" Laptop.
Not to sure which to buy. I figure the Acer would probably be a better brand compared to HP. Edit: I was thinking Dell was HP, Dells seem unreliable to me. |
I have a windows 8 laptop. it's pretty good for office works :D

I've got a Win8 laptop and a Win7 desktop. Win8 feels a lot like a tablet, and as much as I hate to admit it, it's a nice feel for when I'm away from my main rig. I wouldn't suggest it for a main rig though, it just doesn't feel like a fully functional operating system.

I like it on my laptop, but then again I only ever use it in bed or while I'm out so it might as well be a tablet. I probably would have gotten a Win8 tablet if I didn't plan to play League and didn't hate touchscreens so much.
|
I have a Windows 8 laptop, and it's rubbish. I try to always use desktop mode, but some things are just awful about it. I want to open the start menu and search for a program, not switch to a tablet display and slide through heaps of ****ING MASSIVE icons.
|
So I'm steering more toward Win7, I'll search for some more Windows 7 laptops tomorrow and get your opinions. I really can't stand touchscreens, or the feel of Win8's tablet look.

I just want a start menu. |
yeah, I find lack of easy access to libraries really irritating. If a Start menu were in Win8 I'd like it a lot more.

I've been using Windows 8 for the last few months, as long as you have proper hardware support it works great.
One thing I highly recommend is buying a copy of StartIsBack and installing a dark theme. Aside from the changes to UAC (have to Run as Administrator with it off) it works great and is pretty much identical to my Windows 7 workflow but with the new performance increases and faster boot times. |

You can always get it and then download some mods to make it more like Windows 7.

Oh hey I forgot to tell you something
Pavillion dv7 was great for me. I have another Pavillion that has always been utter ****, not sure what model (I'll check eventually). And I'm currently on an ENVY m6 (all HP) which has been decent so far. |

lol. I'm using a Windows 8 right now. There are a lot of problems with it though. It changes the date to a random day all day, every day
and turns off and on the sound constantly during YouTube videos. Yah.... Windows 8 is trying to take over the world! STOP THE MADNESS!!! |
