Android Modding/Jailbreaking/Whatever
Today, I switched my phone carrier from Sprint to T-Mobile and traded in my iPhone 4 for a Nexus 5. I'm rather new to Android phones, so I would like to know if there is any sort of thing similar to jailbreaking an iDevice for them and if so, I would like some recommendations as to what to do.
|
Well I don't have an Android but from what I've heard,
Androids are a little less strict on phone modifications compared to Apple. (By modifications I mean by things like jail-breaking tweaks and stuff like that) So have in mind you've got a little more freedom with an Android than with an iPhone. That doesn't necessarily mean that Androids are better than iPhones so don't bother starting another flame war on that. |
Yes. It's called rooting, and it's easy to do.

It depends on what you're looking to do. Do you really need to root your device? Android is way more flexible than iOS and you can do a pretty wide array of things even with a stock device.

The only reason to root is if you're going to put custom roms on your phone.
If you just want thing like os themes, keyboards, emulators etc you dont really need to root. Rooting is easy though and some apps may require it, not really any mainstream apps though. |
I also did the T-Mobile uncarrier thing. I got an S4 at first but I hated it. Traded it for a 5S. Apple may be more protective but it is a lot better than an Android phone. My S4 was clunky and full of "bloatware" which is additional bull**** placed on your phone.
Apple4lyfe it's so much more efficient and reliable. PLUS we are safe from malware. Nexus 5 looks nice though. Google keeps things very simple which I love. |

Also, safe from malware? You're never truly safe from malware. Although Jailbreaking does give you root permissions to your phone, what if malware finds the same exploit, and uses root privileges to mess it up? Also, on Android, the only way you're going to get malware is if you decided to go into Settings and allow apps to be installed not on the play store. Then you decide to do something stupid like downloading an app online. |
This isn't going to end well...
|
Just so you know, Android doesn't have "bloatware." Service providers put that stuff on. It's a lot like buying a PC from Bestbuy or such, which will have a bunch of **** already installed on it, and then saying "Windows sucks because it comes with bloatware on it." The only difference is Android is open-source so you run into different flavors, and also it means it's very easy for carriers to make it so you can't remove those apps.

Let the ignorant people keep their iPhones who cares, in the end everyone is happy right?

Ya, some apps will most definitely place shortcuts and spam notifications. Also, a lot of people don't really pay attention to the sort of privileges they are giving apps on install... such as giving a flashlight app access to almost everything, like phone numbers and gps.

Another one of those threads again...

Android lets me be a bigger nerd. I can use my phone in my embedded projects.
|
All I did was ask a question, and a wild flame war appeared.
Dammit. |

It's called rooting, it basically depends on what device you have and can be as easy as downloading an app, to downloading ,factory resetting and almost ruining your device. For more information, go to the link below: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/...-root-android/ Quote:
However, try the same search with Google Play Store and you can find almost ALL compatable mobile Emulators paid and free. Google is more caregiving and gives more free apps with more variety, while Apple gives HD and high quality gaming with online wield. Finally, a thread I can understand! |
If you want to get a phone with 10/10 value I suggest the Motorola Moto G.
I would've bought it, but I'm sure I'll get buyer's remorse, because doesn't support external memory and I only stayed a year with my now dying Samsung S3 Mini (it randomly goes into power reset or unknown upload mode). |
Yeah moto G is a great value if you don't care for the highest possible specs. It's a good mid ranger. If you want the highest specs but still at a good pricepoint then Nexus 5 is the way to go.
|
Nexus 5 doesn't have external SD support as well. :(

Welp...
On the topic of jailbreaking and such, I finally jailbroke my iPhone 5C. 3 minutes later cydia magically disappears and my iCloud backup isn't working. Yippee! |
For android they have an app called "freedom" (on YouTube for those of you info freaks)
And they offer 'in-app' purchases apparently unlimited. I don't actually know if it works but just spreading the info guys :) |

You dont even have to root to get free apps

Yeah, " you don't have to root to get free apps"
It's easier with rooting, plus certain apps like " background recorder" and such require you to have a rooted app. Idk maybe just certain apps you want but need to root. Also, if you use the website below you can get free apps. (If you didn't know) most are for android.4shared.com +rep Memento Joker (P.S. Keep in mind if you try to get apps like "Minecraft P.E" you can't update in the AppStore/Play Store unless you have actually bought the actual app in the store wich is pretty much useless in using the AppStore. Lol.) |
