Final Fantasy VII
yep i know imma get a buttload of haters for this thread, but I love this game. And for the young kids who aren't old enough to remember this gem, let me tell you it's totally worth it. Sadly it was released on the PS1 so anyone wanting to buy an official copy will be probably $80 lighter...
Luckily Square decided to release the game on PC. So there lies your salvation people. Get this game. play it all the way through. This is not a story of old people with a case of nostalgia. This game is that friggin' good. It is one for the ages. Megaman X, Super Mario 3, Final Fantasy 7. Play it. -Haro 41 |
I used to play Final Fantasy a lot when I was younger. The thing is they make too many of them and it's annoying to keep up so I don't bother with it anymore.
|
Emulating the PS1 version was more stable than the PC Version, when it came to playing on PC. Hahaha
I liked the older Final Fantasies, Gameboy and SNES specifically. I wasn't too fond of the "Lets slap a jpeg as the background image and have them move along an invisible walkway", look of the Playstation 1 versions. |
i never got into the older ones , i started off on seven , played up to 12 and lost interest . this was my favorite game of all time and still is .

I couldn't stand to play them for longer than I did. FF4 is old fashioned. FF5 tried to impliment new ideas, bit short. FF6 had a lot of polish and work. |

I don't see why you'd get a lot of hate for loving Final Fantasy VII. I ****ing love it, that's where the "Rufus" handle came from. Every few months (maybe weeks) I get nostalgic about it, listen to a music track on YouTube, look up for latest updates on a possible remake. I swear, I never invested in a PS3 and I still have no desire to do so. If they remade Final Fantasy VII for it I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
I always decide to replay the game, but I end up getting to a certain point and then just stop. I had the itch lately, but instead I decided to try a Final Fantasy game that I didn't complete -- Final Fantasy VIII. It was't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, at least not at the beginning. I'm at the final boss now though and at this point everything seems confusing, rushed, and very anti-climatic. I agree with Haro. If you haven't played it already and can appreciate a good RPG, get it downloaded son. |
My only qualms about final fantasy. Everyone refers to the games by final fantasy then the roman numerals of what number it is. Past III all hell breaks lose and people some how screw it up and get IV mixed up with VI and some even do crap like IIII. Seriously. Why don't they have names for each sequel? Or at least use Arabic numerals so idiots can manage to understand what number is what.

Never beat it. I first got it in a Toys R Us discount bin. I saw the back of the box and was like "oh man, that looks awesome!" then I played the game and my opinion changed to "what the **** is this(I should mention this was my first RPG ever)?" and I put it away. Eventually my sisters friend borrowed it and it was ruined, until I eventually bought it again after liking FF8 so much. I didn't get far, and eventually stopped playing. Started over again with more knowledge of RPGs and got to like the third disc, but just ended up losing my steam.

You should all download the recent re-release (not to be confused with a 'remake') for PC and play it. I did.

Playing through it again right now on the PC re-release, at the Clock Room in the Temple of the Ancients: http://finalfantasyviipc.com/en/profile/Crayder
This is the game that got me into RPGs are it's probably the most nostalgic game of my childhood. |

Guy I've known online for years made a hip-hop album over FF7 beats. The lyrics and everything are FF7-themed and it is awesome. He is a great dude and the music is nostalgic and catchy. |

The PC version is on sale, very cheap, well worth the money. If you haven't played it already, go do it omfg. |

Best game ever! :)
I finished it, 2 times from start-end I never bothered leveling materia enough to beat the desert and water weapon though :( |
I used to be obsessed. I love FF. Yes, after 10 the series kinda lost me. I played 7-12 and a few Snes titles. They're all mixed up, idk. Never finished any snes games. Never finished FF 8-9. :( but I love all the characters.
|
I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 in the middle of this and Square Enix support is taking forever to get back to me on a renewed serial key for the game. Been literally about 2 months since I've been able to play, semi-raging here.

I liked crisis core

Yes, people may look at games like FF7 in this day and walk away with a meh feeling, and say it's overrated(same with games like OoT) but games like FF7 and OoT did things back then that justified why they're so revered even now. As someone who didn't really get into FF7(I still haven't beaten it, matter of fact) I can still say that when it came out, it had a huge impact. Same with OoT, when it came out it really did change gaming as we knew it, and set standards. Sure, by modern standards it's easy to look at them and think "big deal" but it was a very big deal back when they came out.
|
And just to add: FF7 was the first 3D rpg. Final Fantasy as a series has been making breakthroughs in gameplay since forever ago. The ATB Gauge, its predecessor and its successors... as an example. Final Fantasy 10: Switching between characters mid-battle, even if they aren't in your party. Final Fantasy 12: A blend of the ATB system and no battle screen transition.
The depth of their characters are also amazing for the time. Lets just say that Final Fantasy was almost always the cutting edge in rpgs and when FF7 came out, it was amazing. If anything, it was a precursor to better gaming; a stepping stone for progress. This stone should not be viewed as "inferior," but instead spectacular. |
Yeah

Well, Does anyone else played other Final Fantasy games aside 6,7 or 10?
|
I've played 8, 9 and 12...? It's funny, it's actually challenging to beat final fantasy games. I've only beat 7 and 10. 8 is insane, 9... I couldn't play the last disc... 11 is a mmorpg, so I didn't play it... And now 14 or 15 will be mmorpg too. Idk, there are too many games to keep up with these days.
I think my favorite character is a tie between Cloud(7), Auron(10), and Balthier(12). |

As of yesterday, FF7 is now on Steam, for $12, with full Steam achievements. Please buy the game just so Square knows how much of an audience there still is for a potential sequel.

I'd be pleased if they just did for 7 what they've done for 6, which is just release a revitalization of the game. There has been a FF6 "remake" on GBA, and all they did was add a bit to the storyline and freshen up the graphics. That's all I really ask for in a FF7 remake, I guess. Same with Chrono Trigger, I didn't really like Chrono Cross. I'd just appreciate a remade version of the game with a some interesting stuff added in where gameplay elements haven't aged well enough. |
I agree on all counts. CT, FF7/FF8 remakes that have improved graphics. :)
|
I like to think that I have paid for at least 3 seconds of a remade battle effect in the amount of times that I have purchased this game. Just waiting on everyone else now.
