So recently I came up from 85-225 spar stats, and am quite proud. Well thought if make this thread so others can share their stories ^^

totally not sarah

GOAT 05-14-2014 09:27 PM

ive blamed my 9000 loses to laggers, pc'rs, delayers, and speed hackers.

I still havent lost one single legit spar

jk i take my loses like a champ

Craftz 05-14-2014 11:06 PM

I dont spar, but Comet's status was once "I lost a spar because I got a pm"

I found it quite amuzing

Sicx 05-14-2014 11:15 PM

i suck at spar. How I have a positive ratio is quite amazing.

Wolfie 05-15-2014 12:10 AM

Some girl called me garbage cuz I outran her for 5 min and she got pissed. :3

iMerp 05-15-2014 01:38 AM

Thallen 05-15-2014 08:14 PM

can't think of many things that are interesting and won't tickle the rage of this sensitive forum community but I'll try

sparred about 40,000 times and never complained after a single one
participated in a series to 100 with another PC sparrer that lasted about 2 hours
had a goal of setting the all-time high streak record when I first came here, finally did it last season with 176, did 143 this season
watched Sarah progress from being a complainer to the most patient/consistent iDevice sparrer
used an alt named "Sakana" as a bored experiment - spoke basic Japanese and used the Japanese flag while maintaining a ping of 60-80, sparred a little over 1000 times, was called a "Japanese delayer" after every other win

Blueh 05-15-2014 09:41 PM

Overall it was good match. I think the match was a bit sophisticated, yet the player has skill equally as great as mine. I would prefer the F technique while semi using the 321technqiue which would've been an ultimate flaw. Only if their was a way to do both at once and properly be uncontrollable. Yet these 2 techniques could be equally converted. Much more greater technique created my rufus master himself. Yet to get ahold of such prohibit information you must beat us full team solo. So overall it was a 10/15 match.

In defense of anyone who called you a "Japanese delayer" this game has natural delay for everyone (some worst than others obviously). In your case you move very fast which is a huge advantage and you delay quite bad. I finally got to spar you late at night where we were both equally as fast and it made a difference. I'm guessing you have a pretty nice comp which is why you're so fast. How you delay and extend your blink while button mashing is beyond me.

people like to claim that skills is what wins spars but ive always believed that the strength of your connection is a bigger factor in determining spar wins.

IMPRINTTTTT this is where you come in and say everyone moves at the same speed because graal has a FPS cap.

Demrow 05-16-2014 11:05 PM

Yeah sorry GOAT you're wrong. Not everyone moves the same speed. It might be set like that but connection and processor speed definitely plays a part. If your computer can't keep up with all the scripts and moving parts in the game you're going to move slower. Also if you're connection is terrible you're going to lag which causes you to slow down. Try running 10 things at once on an old laptop bet you won't be as fast as me, and I bet Thallen will walk circles around you in spar.

youre preaching to the choir brotha, i agree with everything you said.

The things you mention here are some of the things that determine your connection strength to the server and is what i meant by being the major factor in determining spars.

I know players move at different speeds but during the pc vs idevice argument imprint thought the FPS cap made everyone move the same. So I wasnt going against what you said, I was just trying to mock my favorite moderator.

Demrow 05-17-2014 12:26 AM

Ah gotcha sorry didn't know what the 'imprinttt' part meant haha

Livid 05-17-2014 01:15 AM

I got a feeling this thread is gonna end up having the worst of arguments.

Xavier 05-17-2014 02:35 AM

I remember having a 25-100 ratio; slowly worked my way up to 1000-745, and then 4000-2000. It's much more difficult now though, as the sparring community in general has upped the ante.

Xenthic 05-17-2014 03:12 AM

Victoria is a man? Carly is a man? uh idk those are things I hear anyway

Kuz 05-17-2014 10:34 AM

Played Classic/UN for a few years. Took a 4 year break from classic servers. Came to iClassic and I was good at GSing here, got noticed by the r0ller and offered in their gst team. I quit as they were not in iDev and then when I found out about GST, I convinced myself that one time I will win it but after understanding the community on here to get into a good team it is Score>Skill. So when I started sparring I was negative for my first 2 months because all I did was sit in main spar room and spar the pro's of this game whilst sparring offensively (I done so on Classic and UN). Then I realized the fact that because I can't move as fast as I do on Classic or UN that aggressive sparring is a 1 way trip so I switched to defensive. Now I'm Positive by about 200 hundred, and all I do is spar with honor. Whenever people call me a "*****" or a "waller" for sparring defensively it doesn't annoy me it just fuels me to carry on doing it because it's funny watching them reactions.

Thallen 05-17-2014 12:34 PM

if someone's complaining about the way you spar then you're probably doing something right
I actually love when people do it
sometimes I just watch Sarah spar and laugh with her in guild messages about how people complain about the way she chooses to spar

or when crazy people tell me I delay or hack to win spars, I don't even argue
I just ignore or agree with them because it rustles their jimmies even further
sometimes I even apologize for lagging when it's the other playing who is lagging, because I'm aware of how clueless the majority of the spar community is when it comes to understanding how that works (see first quote in signature)

easy mental/emotional edge
have fun sparring someone who you've managed to convince yourself has some sort of unfair advantage over you

This post had me in tears, Victoria was a guy who used his sister's looks to portray himself as a female the best part is that my guy friend dated this other guy for a year thinking it was a female and he would always do spar for him.

Carly is a straight female and the guy she was accused of really being is one of her good friends in real life who also plays.

Rella 05-26-2014 05:36 AM

I sparred with the legendary Brinky and Nataro Dame once.
Also, I lost to some noob with 17 spar losses and 0 wins because of RP'ing ._.

Shirie Kan 05-27-2014 09:48 AM

got from very negative (400-900) to positive before 2500 wins, yeah it took a while because for a long time I sucked ass, now 3700-3000 and still kind of suck ass. while i was sparring regularly I was pretty high up on the leaderboard but i got lazy and started a PC alt which i got to 160-55 but now i just casually pk for fear of hurting my record on it because my PC skills have degraded severely.

meganey98 05-01-2015 07:33 PM

I had 2 wins out of 30 spars on my first month of this game. I trained myself through guild sparring for straight two years and I still suck. :'(
Last week, I got killed by la chica mexicana pura in the guild spar and she called me a newb. Urgh, I am still so upset about it!! I hate those monster energy addicts.

Yoshired 05-01-2015 09:38 PM

I'm really really bad at spar. But it amuses me to watch it sometimes because people really have a hard time losing. My favorite is when they create this "unfair advantage" scenario and they will tell people theyre cheating over and over and still spar that same person over and over. Don't get me wrong there are definetley people who cheat but I think the wrong people get blamed.

G Fatal 05-01-2015 09:44 PM

Sparrers have stories, what?

Aguzo 05-01-2015 10:26 PM

I started on ipod touch in 2010. I didn't know much about sparring, and didn't know how fun it could become. My spar stats were very negative at first, so I tried to see what I was doing wrong. I would watch good people spar and try to mimic what they do. I got my stats to 2100 wins and 2100 losses. After that, I started getting better. Always trying to spar good people, until I saw how crazy quick people were on PC. I switched to PC by the time I was at 4000-3000. I started to practice my movement a lot, always forcing my fingers to react faster by moving side to side while I would wait in spar. Always tried to spar people like ihercules, Male, Talbourn, Clops, etc. I eventually got better and better and earned my 2:1 ratio naturally last year in 2014, when I hit 10,000 wins and 5,000 losses. I still had to get better and I am still working my way up to a 3:1 ratio. But, I have never liked to spar in any other room besides mixed, unless I see someone with a good ratio. I eventually caught up to the people I used to think were amazingly good, that I had no idea how to beat them by just fighting against them a lot. I made my own style of sparring which is fast-paced and combos. It works for me. Now I am 17,000-7,000. There are so many tricks I learned about sparring. Sparring in this game isn't just 4 buttons and swinging your sword. After 4 years of experience, sparring is all about positioning, timing, patience, and most importantly believing in yourself.

Never forget

It's better to try to beat someone good, win/lose, and learn. Rather than to beat some nub, and not learn anything, then when someone good comes around you will run out of room and go find more nubs to feed your fake ratio.

Ratios don't justify how good you are. Spar for fun and for yourself, not for stats.

Red 05-01-2015 11:03 PM

The most fun I will ever have sparring is sparring someone like Thallen or AguzoThey don't lag or delay they spar just how I like it, fast paced and offensively, I fell in love with sparring late early 2013 and have been sparring ever since, playing on and off, some days I'll win at least 100 a day and others I'll hop on for half an hour just to que in the mixed room, sparring has changed a lot since I started, With many people choosing to wall and play defensively over having an all out offensive and proper match.

Sardon 05-01-2015 11:44 PM

i was sparring for fun and some butthurt graalians started trash talking cuz they were pissed off that I don't take spar that seriously

MBK 05-02-2015 02:55 PM

Sparring Brett and Kevin was the best part of my sparring days.

ya, spar Quiondre too, he spars a lot like that, all of my spars vs. him seem like we are within 5 centimeters of each other juking and turning the entire spar

A lot more fun then sparring someone who is unhitable or walls and won't come near you.

Nice, keep up the good work.

KuyaGabeGraal 05-29-2015 07:33 AM

Long story short, my first half of my wins I went 10000-4500. My second half I went 10000-2500. The extra win-loss of "2769 - 803" in my score was probably when I merged accounts.

Hap 05-29-2015 01:56 PM

I was try-harding spar in 2010 to get 10k asap.
I got 10k-2k.
Sparing was easy because I live in France (delay, lag, sword longer,baguette,blabla...), and iDev only.
Atm, I find gsing really fun and not boring.

Now people takes it too seriously, and wall spar all day long to don't lose. (They aren't trying to win)

The only real sparrers I like (speaking about mechanics) are a japanese dude who taught me alot and Thallen who's amazing to see sparing even though he always beats me. :(

This is my vision of sparring, sorry.

To conclude, I'll quote a great man who said "Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game."

David 05-29-2015 03:29 PM

So this story is probably from like.. 2005 or something but it's still a pretty good one:

One saturday on Unholy Nation the TTUTC (tag team spar tournament) was being hosted. This was before I was in US. Rufus and I didn't get along. We must have both logged on late or something because everyone found a partner and we were kind of stuck with one another. It was annoying. I didn't like him, he didn't like me and we had to be a team. I remember not talking to him much during it, but round after round we started communicating more, discussing who would go first vs who and so on. We made it into the finals and ended up facing a really good team (I can't remember who). I just remember thinking "yeah this was fun but we're definitely going to lose". We won with a considerable amount of hearts left and became really good friends after that. He asked me to join US and I did. I got much better at sparring and at the social aspect of the game. It was nice.

Common Sense 05-29-2015 08:17 PM

I beat Thallen once.

Droid 05-29-2015 08:26 PM

I hit my opponent more than they hit me.
