Kingdoms iPhone preview

Apparently we can now check out what Kingdoms iPhone will look like according to this post from Facebook. Looking forward to trying this later.

below is a screenshot with a possible terrain issue? it is drawing the tiles out of proportion -- similar to having a -Z on a gmap. see the level name and coordinates in the same screenshot.

http://i.imgur.com/dvr8UW4.png

i did not go over the whole map, but overall it looks nice.

some issues in the water -- but nothing notable as that system is probably still in the works (getting close to the cliffs causes you to go from swimming to walking).

lighting effects (won't really display on FB anyway,) do not seem to be positioned properly in the torch class. they are drawing slightly below where they should for me, not sure if anyone else saw it.

The map you are currently on is just a test overworl so players can walk around.
Tig and Alarid are going to finish the last things for making kingdoms iphone a full playable mobile server.

The rest depends on unixmad and Stefan :)

Torankusu 05-23-2014 04:19 PM

gotcha. just throwing some things out there that I noticed in my run through.

overall, I like the bushes and most of the path tiles for cities and all that.. the mix between the older cliff faces are much better than what pc kingdoms currently uses, but that's just my opinion.

Wait wait wait, you mean Tig is still with Graal? He didn't give a giant middle finger to Stefan and quit?

Also I just tried it and it seems promising, though I have a few questions.

Will there be a flourishing and stable economy? Or will it be like all of the other servers that will allow you to just buy money like a total pleb?

Will there be jobs that give decent money at a fair rate, or will it just be odd things that give a few copper here and a silver here?

Will there be trading available? Such as being able to drag and drop onto a player to sell an item at your price and trade tables too? Or will you only keep what you get?

What's going to happen to GK on PC? Will it stay up as 2 separate servers, will they merge, or will PC just be removed entirely? If it is removed, will it be available like how Delteria is (Such as available on PC Client), except (hopefully) optimised for PC too?

If at least the first three questions are answered with a good economy, good trading system and the inability to buy money, then I think it'd have tons of potential.

-Albus 05-23-2014 05:22 PM

Neat.

I hope you guys completely redid the leveling from old kingdoms, because that is one of the worst grinds I have ever seen in a game. I also hope you guys steer away from event items being the most powerful ones and focus more on crafting like you have been. Other than that, good luck to you. I think Graal could really use a well made mobile RPG style server.

Yes, we have more then 3000 items which you can trade and sell with players. Trade tables and trading between players (drag drop etc) also available. Same mechanics as on GK PC

We will start with few jobs like mining, farming and fishing. But there will be more of course which are reserved for our updates.

Look at question #1

GK PC and Kingdoms iPhone are 2 totally different servers. We are waiting for Stefans OK to release for Facebook (the PC Version). Our side of development and adjusting is already done.

If at least the first three questions are answered with a good economy, good trading system and the inability to buy money, then I think it'd have tons of potential.

Thanks for your feedback.

You answered most, but will money be something earned, or will it be ruined with the ability to purchase money? Although I guess with how it is, it'll be Nihil coins instead?

And lastly, since it'll be on Facebook, will it also be open to the client in the future like Delteria, or will it remain on Facebook only?

Thanks in advance

I dont know what you mean with Facebook. Kingdoms iPhone is for the mobile platform. GK PC is for Facebook.

You can earn money with jobs, of course you can purchase them aswell, but there will be noone forced too. Depends if the player wants to work for the money or take the easy way and purchase it.
We are not sure yet what the currency will be called.

I just meant that it'd be on Facebook and the mobile platform, but would also allow login similar to staff-login for the iServers, except for non-staff.

As for the money, why not let them purchase something different? Instead of currency, why not something similar that's a premium coin or something? Instead of it being used as money it's used for crafting special things that require the coins?

To answer this question, any in-app purchases, in ALL Previously displayed models, have been required to be called Gralats.

Sorry.

Not really that bad. With these gralats you could buy these premium coins, like you can already do on Graal Kingdoms (PC) :)

Wolfie 05-23-2014 07:15 PM

In the year 3023... iKingdoms is finally being put into the AppStore!

How long do we have to wait till iKingdoms gets put into AppStore? Is it gunna delay like a billion of time like Delteria and still not in the AppStore?

I don't really think that's what he's asking. He's not asking for the currency to be called something other than Gralats (which was in fact denied in servers like Delteria and I think Era) but for a separate currency to be used that can be purchased with real $.

Vladamir Blackthorne 05-23-2014 08:11 PM

I hope instead of gralat packs we get the nihil coin system like on PC. That way money will in no way equate to power, and the economy can flourish without being influenced by real world money.

Also, I hope their will be commodity items like coffee, tea, ect. that I can harvest and make a steady profit in the player economy with.

5hift 05-23-2014 09:03 PM

Interesting...

But Facebook?

No.

GOAT 05-23-2014 10:34 PM

I assumed this server was going to be available to all plataforms: ios, android, fb, and pc client since when you click on your profile it gives you the ios and pc stat page.

not saying its bad but i prefer my graal classic style.

Ahhh darn, anyway best of luck with iOS release, I'll be playing when it's out!

I've been on the test server, looks really nice :) I like the different looks as well! Currently levelling up right now

Vladamir Blackthorne 05-24-2014 01:38 AM

I am legitimately worried that the economy will start to take a major toll later in iGK's life. That is, if equipment is where the money is at. Buff-providing comestibles could give some degree of longevity to the economy.... but it's all up to you, Nico. How will YOU try to keep the economy flowing when everyone has top level gear and no need to buy anything from another player?

We got enough items for future updates, enough jobs to do, enough quests to complete and more. If a player really reaches his goal and gets the best gear available and has no need to trade anymore, he might want to continue on the quests to have some fun. But this will take quite a few time to accomplish :D

NicoX 05-26-2014 01:40 AM

Stuff for release:
  • Kingdoms (Dustari, Crescent Pirates, Zormite, Forest, Samurai), CastleWars
  • PvE, PvP, Dungeons, Maybe 1 Crypt/Instance
  • Shops for several things, Barbershops, Crafting
  • Skills: Mining, Fishing, Farming, Cutting trees and making bords for the beginning, more as updates later
  • Guildsystem
  • Quests
  • Armor like Mails, Helmets, Bracers, Amulets etc with real stats.
  • Tradeshops with Tradetables, dropping items, Trade between players
  • Playerhouses / Guild HQs
  • Gods with Buffs. (Player related buffs)
  • Few events for the release. More later.
  • Markets for players to sell stuff. (Renting slots for money to put items on it or so)
  • Horses for travelling

We have alot of things which we are holding back for our updates, for example, ships for shipwars and so on.
I hope you like it.

Kingdoms sounds like it has too similar goals to delteria. Its just a matter of who was the edge in the competition and implements ideas better.

Oddly enough kingdoms pc has remained systematically unchanged since about 2002 -- be mindful, no fault of their own.

Yes, they've added a few new things, but unfortulately servers like era and un have held the playercount in that realm.

Nico has spent money out of his own pocket for dev talent, which is not something delteria has delved into at this point.

Either way, graphically and level wise, kingdoms will use terrain (incorporates z axis), and a few other things none of the other ios servers have bothered with for obvious reasons. At the end of the day, you guys think its a competition, but in all reality the money all goes to the same bank account.

They will fight over playerbase, not who gets the most money. I know how some people would love to point out the differences between the two server- but they attract the same type of playerbase (medieval, trade-based, quest oriented, crafting, jobs, and large guild competition)

Lol, "who can get the most money" has always been the drivng factor for graal's adminstrative support, and is what destroyed graal's playerbase back in 2000.

Well, Kingdoms iPhone will be the light version of GK. Simpler for the mobile platform. And Torankusu is right, it is no real competition. If a server has 10,100 or 1000 Players, we are not getting the money out of the purchases. I am happy with every single player who will enjoy kingdoms iphone later on :)

I'm a bit curious to know what your intentions were with this preview.

I checked it out, and I don't know if it was how it was meant to be, or if I was bugged but I couldn't leave the starting area. The houses were locked and the NPC blocking the path said thanks for completing a quest I hadn't done, and never moved. I was able, however, to move around via middle-mouse clicking and warping around.

I noticed there were levels done, and... that's about all I noticed. The interface seemed to be heavily WIP, there was no items or inventory or anything like that, at least what I initially saw. In fact you can tell everything is very heavily WIP... which is fine since it's beta/preview whatever...

However, what was your intention with this preview that screenshots couldn't accomplish?

Thanks for your feedback.
The intention was to give people just a feeling of the tileset and to explore a bit, nothing more. All systems are up and work also for highstaffs/iphones etc.
Tigairius will soon start to adjust everything so we have all the features in the list I posted earlier running. Alarid our Graphics Artist is going to finish new gui images/screens and several graphics within the next week to give kingdoms iphone the last touch.
Our LATs meanwhile are working on the overworld and dungeons, which are already done but just requires a few detailing.
We hope to present a full working server to Stefan soon and release it.
Since Graal mobile became such an important part for the game management, we hope this won't take so long :) I don't want to give any release dates since the past of server releases shown us that this is not possible at all.

But this is off-topic right now.

Shouldn't the two servers just be combined at this point?

You can just have different spawn areas for iOS and PC/Facebook. I feel like the end game here is to have one GK server accessible by all devices and this is just a step in the wrong direction.

We will keep both servers. We are also revamping alot of systems on GK PC with new HUD/Qmenu and more.

Kingdoms iphone will help GK PC alot because we can always use updates and features for the PC version too. That way we keep both communities satisfied :)

So you're having to overextend yourself and do 2x the amount of work. I don't see how that benefits either community.

I don't see how its "2x the amount of work" when stuff like graphics, levels, and scripts can be recycled. They just need to change things to work properly with their respective clients and servers. For example, stuff that requires a lot of players wont work with PC, and stuff that doesn't support a lot of people won't work on iPhone.

It's not really 2x the amount of work... The things can be shared with both servers. iGK and PC GK are very different servers though and it will be nice to have them both imo.

Managers don't get a percentage either. Not even on Era or Classic.

fp4 06-28-2014 05:01 PM

There's still extra amount of work to release one project on two servers due to having to adapt the project for it's 2nd target server.

I think after awhile it will become apparent that the two will need to be merged assuming the iPhone version dwarfs the PC/FB version in playercount.
