Hello everyone this is Noroup and I am bringing you a police car

I have to admit, the current police car in graal looks like crap and it's old.

Therefore, I worked on this car for a few days and it looked pretty cool.

Before I submit this to Era, please check out the car and identify the pros and cons and errors so I can fix it before I submit it.

Thank you

Sincerely,
Noroup

Forgot to include this into my intro:

Added anti-aliasing
Added shading

Nezo 06-23-2014 03:31 AM

I do like the lights at the back :)

noroup 06-23-2014 03:32 AM

Thanks

PoeticFolly 06-23-2014 03:35 AM

There's a lot of pillow shading going on.

How can the current police car look like crap compared to that?

noroup 06-23-2014 05:14 AM

It does. The current police car is old, and unrealistic as a car. It looks weird and childish, almost like a toy.

Tbh, it looks really weird now.

noroup 06-23-2014 06:04 AM

Yep, that's why I made this car.

The original car honestly looks more realistic. Who knows, maybe it's just me.
But it's a bit jagged and square which I'm not too fond of.

noroup 06-23-2014 06:22 AM

Okay

Nabu Lapse 06-23-2014 07:41 AM

Try not to make it 26 pages this time fellas.

Hadi 06-23-2014 07:43 AM

more contrast, less gradient shade.

Nabu Lapse 06-23-2014 07:52 AM

I'm going to actually contribute. Your shading and contrast is mediocre at best. You seriously need to improve that if you even want to consider turning that "thing" into the server. You're over looking a lot of small details as well. Things like car windows and the police sirens are done very poorly and need shading (I don't even see windows btw). Also, if you were curious pillow shading is not shading. I recommend seeking some graphics tutorials online for guidance on how to properly shade and add reflections, basic stuff like that. If you were to put that car into the game at it's current state you wouldn't even be able to depict the different colors you tried to implement, USE MORE CONTRAST. Learn from my words because at this moment your car doesn't even compete with the current one.

by posting this, you only contribute to making it 26 pages. Weird.

GOAT 06-23-2014 08:23 AM

you should draw a pig in the hood of the car

Shiz 06-23-2014 08:27 AM

Oh sweet lawdy lawd Jesus

XSTARX 06-23-2014 08:52 AM

Still prefer the old one.
Looks more neat and realistic.

The old car looks better then "your not crap and old" thing.
You need more contrast, the car looks like a square, and it looks like used a tool for the edges. The small things need more details, and how do people drive without the window x X.
Your car looks flat, while the car era has now looks 3-dimensional.

99% 06-23-2014 03:15 PM

Oh lord. Not this guy again.
What most people fail to understand, is that the original setting of Era is during the Al' Capone era. Even though staff have implemented random crap that's taken it as far as possible from this theme, that is what Era was meant to be. Thus, the old Police Car is perfectly fitting.

Personally, I'd drive the old one over that box with sirens any day.

Kendama 06-23-2014 03:58 PM

I like the leather seats more than seeing the car from a complete overhead angle.

Graal really is not seeing things from a complete overhead angle. If you ever think about it, you are seeing everything from a slightly tilted 'angle'.

Such as instead of seeing just the rooftops of building because your looking from the sky in a 90 degree angle down, you see much of the front of the building. Same with people, if you were looking straight down on graalians, all you would see is the top of their hair (for the most part). Same goes with cars and the majority of other graphics. It throws things off if you throw in graphics like the car you made, because you can see every part of the top of the car, so it looks boxy and unrealistic compared to everything else.

Furthermore, even if it was normal to create graphics with a complete overhead angle, the tail lights do not look like tail lights would look if they were pixeled correctly. They would be much shorter since tail lights are short in width but long in the vertical length. Think about that.

With heavy editing (and removal of pillow shading) you could probably create something worthwhile for era here.

The one on the left is much better than yours.

5hift 06-23-2014 04:05 PM

Too flat, too ridged, too dark, can't even see windows, looks like it's been chiseled out of a solid block of coal, edges need to more round and a real police car looks better than any of these.

noroup 06-23-2014 07:04 PM

So I need to add more distinct layers of shading to the car?

Also, would it be okay to add a light source to the roof which would carry out the shading for the rest of the car? If I do this, how should the windows be affected?

5hift 06-23-2014 07:17 PM

The windows need to be an entirely different color from the rest of the car.

Contrast lad.

Try light blue.

noroup 06-23-2014 07:21 PM

Alright

Glare, like rectangles- fatter at the top of window while slimmer near the bottom.

Dont forget what I said about how graal represents the angle of view. Showing the taillights as they are now is way too boxy and toy-like in order to be added to the server.

Completely true, although we CAN try to be a little more constructive rather than being destructive

5hift 06-24-2014 04:39 AM

Yes but based on pervious experiences, we all know what happens when we try to be "constructive" on these kinds of threads.

PoeticFolly 06-24-2014 04:58 AM

Yeah, the thing is is that I'm wanting it to be more constructive than destructive. I'm not going to want this to reach 27 pages of ****posting again.

Sorry to inform you, but these are not YOUR forums, so what YOU personally want doesn't really matter. The thread as is, is on topic until you derailed it. Every single art thread has destructive criticism. This thread also has constructive in case anyone has selective reading. I would love for someone to show me an art thread where there was not anyone being destructive in the comments. It's part of making graphics. Lmao. Anyone else care to continue this off topic bicker?

XSTARX 06-24-2014 11:55 AM

Let's all throw a direct criticism at the art k.
Don't need to cibai here and cibai there k.

5hift 06-24-2014 05:19 PM

Just occurred to me that your police car doesn't even have rear-view mirrors.

Very realistic.

Meatman204 06-24-2014 06:02 PM

You should be more careful / investigative for details and specific parts of the car, or just about anything. Another thing, you should be reading others' constructive comments and taking them seriously, and using that information to get better. Making more unholy work of garbage just makes yourself unworthy of a pixel artist, and tells others that you're not really reading the comments. Again, other threads made by you have been led into a mish-mash of s***-talking and then locked. So please, take my advice.

Should be interesting.

XSTARX 06-25-2014 01:25 AM

It's very square, oh well, pixels are square.

Jester Lapse 06-25-2014 01:30 AM

took a nap and lazily finished it, lmao

things to note @noroup
-Perspective: Graal is usually at a 3/4 angle. You did a flat straight down which would look bad in game
-Color choice: You have a lot of brights mixed with darks. It throws off the composition
-If you are going to claim your car is more "realistic" I recommend actually looking at pictures of police cars and trying to copy it
