Christmas Ideas

Hey Cowboys and Natives,

Christmas is a good, solid month away and I wanted to make a thread for suggestions and ideas so we could prepare you guys for a great holiday on Ol' West. So let's get down to it:

We need ideas. When I say this I mean ways to obtain presents. The plan is that players will obtain presents and open them on Christmas day. These presents will be different colors which decides their rarity. The more rare a present is, the higher chance of a valuable item(s). As of now, I have already made some Christmas stuff (located in my GFX thread) in case you wanted to see how they looked.

Another thing. There probably wont be snow this year. (Don't say desserts don't have snow because some actually do.) With that being said, do you think we should have "sandmen?" (Snowmen but made out of sand.) It's a pretty sketchy idea but I wanted to hear you guys because I plan on making all these things.

Last, ways to obtain presents. We need ideas for this too. I've already thought about how players could obtain presents from jobs, killing other players, or finding some in secret places. The % of finding them in jobs will be low so players have to work for them. (This could mean that items in presents are worth more.)

Not sure if we're having a quest yet but if we had ideas for that too then maybe we'll hook you guys up with one.

We're all ears for hearing your ideas so throw them at us. :)

ArtaXerXes 11-17-2014 03:51 PM

I think you should make the presents obtainable through little, replayable side quests and the NPCs gift rarity would be randomized. Also if you were to have sand men, make them piles of sand with snow men accessories thrown on.

Don't do another ****ing iera style quest, that's my idea

What is a "Era-styled" quest lol? I find any quest the same honestly. Unless you're referring to the whole "NPC-killing" that Era has.

DarkKnight 11-17-2014 04:00 PM

iEra's Quest System:

"Oh no, I lost my candy cane inside this house! Please go kill the 2702734850 'Evil Elves' that stole it, I'll give you a worthless melee weapon!"

Ahh that. Haha I agree. I'll keep that in mind.

Please nothing that requires you to have to stay up all night for an entire week so you can get something good
*cough*classic Halloween event*cough*

Nabu Lapse 11-17-2014 06:30 PM

Only thing I request is to not make it a quest that feels like chores. So basically as DK said don't make it "Era styled". As long as it's enjoyable and something that doesn't feel repetetive I think most people will enjoy it.

Distorted 11-17-2014 06:48 PM

Hm, make something fun at least, unlike Classic and Era always do :p

Xenice 11-17-2014 08:23 PM

A couple of players have suggested re-playable side quests, which is a great idea - but obviously some players are worried that it would end up to be some sort of chore.

To be honest, in terms of ways to gain something free on Graal, it will be a chore. For example, Trick or Treating on Graal Classic. It will be hard to escape that element of hard work, but it's important to make it enjoyable and rewarding - for those of you who are worried it will be like that.

Anyway, my idea is some sort of a credit system. You complete a task, a daily task - whatever - and you can either receive sheriff badges, Indian feathers... I don't know, you get the idea - obviously depending on your faction!

There would be different NPC's that give different amounts of sheriff badges, chicken or whatever after completing a daily task set out by them. The amount they give would depend on the difficulty and how much of a chore the quest/task is.

The currency in which the NPC's provide a player would then be used to exchange it for presents. If a person did more chores, and spent more time - they would obviously get a better present.

That's an idea. Some may favor it, some may not. Thanks for reading.

Please Please Please let there be snow and gifts! Don't ruin that Graal tradition of snow and Christmas presents. I love love love it!

I think that a limited christmas gun and limited christmas furniture would be good gifts to have. Also, i would like the Christmas items to be cheap. We all want SOME christmas items especially so when the game gets older we can show em off. xD Hope this gave you some ideas (also snow is a REALLY fun suggestion. If you can't add snow it's fine, I understand the game is new.)

Nelo 11-17-2014 10:13 PM

During Christmas time, make an option allowing players to place bounties that will pay off with mysterious present boxes instead of money

Ryjofa Rage* 11-18-2014 01:01 AM

Hats hats hats, hats are love, hats are life.

Joshacorn Parze 11-18-2014 10:59 AM

Ok, Heres my plan. Some Indian black magic/sorcery whatever has like taken all the elves or taken Santa either one. You have to go to the Indian territory and go in to a witch stiled tent where there is a sort of cOuldren, you grab the couldren and teleport to a building with lots of potions and elves/Santa stuck in cages. There is doors around the building that each have clues in them. The clues are the answer to unlock the main 'big witch door' which you find her and have to kill her. You then kill her and gain the Witch/Halloween shaped Xmas hat and some xmas weapon.

And as for how to get presents I think that there should be mobs in the building or something that you have to kill in the rooms to be able to search around for the clues. I can't go into detail in text and I'm trippin out. Feel free to pm me

Presents and SnowBall/SandBall Fites.

I was thinking the same. Minimum it's 10 hats but I plan on having over 10.

I don't think we will have snow this year on the tileset.. sadly. But we might! You are really pushing me into making a quick wip of it with the help of others. Maybe we will?

Indeed there will be a christmas gun as well as a lot of furniture. (Some of these will be included in the presents you open on Christmas day.)

Presents and SnowBall/SandBall Fites.

Presents are done, I plan on making more colors.
Any ideas what colors could equal the rarity? (Like, what colors should be rarer than others?) And if we add snow, it will be snowballs. Otherwise, it might be sandballs.

Any examples of past quests that you enjoyed from other servers? Just so I have a general idea (won't be exactly the same, but maybe similar.)

Shiz 11-18-2014 03:45 PM

I was actually thinking of another idea for presents. Something along the lines of finding certain items and turning them into Mrs. Claus and she will return the favor with certrain presents? For example:
Mrs. Claus: "I need 5 silver for some precious jewerly!"
You go mine until you retrieve 5 silver and bring it back to Mrs. Claus.

You then get a few presents. But as this goes on, you get different tasks. It's also randomized. Randomized tasks with randomized items. That way everyone has smaller chances of receiving the same items making some uncommon than others.

Just one of the idea, but this could be one of the side quests.

Nelo 11-18-2014 03:59 PM

That's very era-styled. Try something original like idk an NPC tells you to walk 20 steps right 80 steps up and dig at that spot (they would give you a shovel) and then when you find whatever was there you use it as a key to enter some house that you need to kill ghost elves at but they're like OP and stuff so you call your squad for help.
I'll think of more lol

Well I am from Era mainly so I'lll try to avoid that. Do players like simple instructions like that?

Nelo 11-18-2014 04:10 PM

Ya sure. Also after you kill the elves you could free your old homie sitting in their cage. The old guy would somehow have hidden a map in his pants. The map would be in elvish though so you would have to go for example south east from Bobby's guns to find the wise elf translator

Josh-Kun 11-18-2014 04:17 PM

Maybe a revolver that is a candy cane? That would be cool.:)

This is by far probably the best idea.

Nelo 11-18-2014 04:20 PM

While your journey you would have to cross a bridge but there are 3 bandits on your way. Now this is what I would really like to see in graal quests. After having a convo with them you would have a choice to either pay them 1500 gold or fight them to death. Now instead of reviving after every time you died, you would get a "quest failed" notification and go back to the last check point which was "get the map from the elf" you then become wiser to use healing and friends to beat them

Nelo 11-18-2014 05:20 PM

And then you find an underground path and walk in an evil santa wizard who summons zombie sandmans trying to kill you and when you win you you're done the quest and staff can figure out some kind of reward

Distorted 11-18-2014 06:25 PM

Nelo why didn't you just edit your original post instead of just making more...?

Nelo 11-18-2014 06:47 PM

idk I just felt like it

Kill the Bandit Leader (After defeating the Bandit Leader you go back to Sheriff Alexander)

Bandit Leader Defeated

Sheriff Alexander: Hey! Your work is in the radio! Nice work! As a reward, I'll tell you where the snow at. It's at the top of mountain, there's only few but it's still a snow!

I liked grabbing the fountain on iera it was a fun little event. Also when we got like a million grabs it started to climax presents.

This is off topic, but it's a hat idea. Make a cowboy hat with antlers poking out the top. :D

I was thinking we could use the gifting system for Ol' West as well. Lots of players seem to like that.

Update: There will be little snow, but not fully covering the ground. Ex.: A cactus with snow on it that's sort of melted, etc.
