Phone troubles & jobs
Can't convince parents to get me a phone, they don't like contracts or monthly payments.
So, I am planning on doing what I can to get together some money to get myself a phone; any recommendations? This is something that I'd be stuck with for a while (in high school, not loaded with money to buy new phones shat out by manufacturers every 2 days), so I'm asking for recommendations of high-end "flagship" phones that will be/are able to compare for some time hardware/software-wise to other phones released in the future. (Currently leaning towards the Oneplus One or HTC One m8) Also, suggestions for how to pull together around $300-800 for a phone? 15 years old, high school student. Can't convince my parents to let me get a job, either. ****. |
Get new parents.

The best I can get out of my parents is a pay-as-you-go flip phone from CVS Pharmacy for "emergencies only". :( |

Anyways, @Isaac, I'd recommend just at least helping put others (cutting lawns, pulling weeds, etc.) Honestly, they will probably pay you well. |

Honestly, you people amaze me how you must have the latest thing that your parents pay for. It sickens me really, but on the brightside, you're willing to work for it, so I'll give you that. I suggest snow shoveling if possible. Doesn't usually take long and typically, depending on length and how many areas, can pay as high as 50$. Or you could aleays try doing art comissions. Another is posting ads online that states you're looking to do menial things like mowing, shovelling, etc. I used to be a pseudo-massuse and made a little bit of cash by word of mouth. Good luck guys |

Give it a couple more years for your parents to realize how inconvenient it is to not have you carry a phone.

Also the issue with the $7 drugstore flipphone for calling them or the cops, don't want a phone that I'd be embarrassed to be seen in public with. Quote:

I am that friend and I wasn't forced to get a phone, I chose to. Know your information before posting. What you should be doing is working at CVS, accept payment in the form of cell phones, gather up a lot of cell phone, and sell them on any website that you can sell new/old phones. Then you make mad money. And please don't kill me and take my parents...

Also, I don't think that's how payment works. |

Why do you feel the need to break the thread? It's pointless. Quote:
If you want to, you could get an Apple Device and JB it. Or whatever you prefer interface wise. |

Plus, I'd rather not have to tamper so much with the software to be able to reach the level of customization that I desire. I'd consider buying myself an iPhone only if my other options were significantly worse hardware-wise; but most other devices tend to have better specs than the iPhone at a lower/similar price (see: Oneplus One, HTC One m8, Sony Xperia Z3, Moto X, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, etc.) |

My brother who was 13 got a part-time job at a cafe and didn't need to have a resume or anything, just went down on the weekend for a while and got paid at the end.

Do what I did: make a pros and cons list of having a phone and show it to your parents, and have a serious conversation with them. Tell them that you're getting older and you deserve a phone. I assume you go out to places with friends, so tell your parents that you may need to call them if an emergency happens and you need them to pick you up, or if there's an emergency at school and you need them to pick you up right away.
I didn't get a phone until the eighth grade because my parents didn't think I needed one, but I ended up getting one for Christmas that same year. For me it was harder to convince them to get me a phone since I was in junior high, but it should be easier for you to since you're already in high school. If you're parents are THAT difficult to convince, tell them that you'll pay for half of it if they pay the other half. Compromise with them. |
Off brand BLU phones are cheap and good. I like mine

I'm looking at the Sharp Aquos Crystal, which has a unique design (no top or side bezels, camera on bottom bezel) and is prepaid (pay-as-you-go, essentially). Page on Best Buy However, I'm still leaning much closer to saving further for a higher-end device. |
shop for BLU on amazon. way cheaper.

Ok. First off, don't go down that road of trying to use social media, the internet, or a phone to make and manage friends. Many people do this these days. The truth of many is it becomes a lie that they tell even themselves. They build up all the pictures they have that make them look cool, and try to create a fake image of themselves in order to appear cool. It isn't cool, and they are in denial of who they truly are. There is this badass at my school. He wears a leather jacket and rides a sportbike to school everyday. Nobody knows much about him except he is ripped and has scars all over himself. Nearly EVERYBODY in the school wants to be his friend, and the girls want the d. The only kid cooler than him in the school is Chandler Riggs. This kid, doesn't have any social media or a phone. Be this kid. You don't have to have the leather jacket and the bike, the muscles, the scars, or the mystery. Getting used to a phone puts up a social barrier that will affect your every day life. Smartphones triple to affect. Everybody is a fake image of themselves over these things. It degrades mystery as well. It isn't cool, its become a quirk in society. People get used to staring at it and playing games for long period at a time. people get used to basing their flirting over text, and it breaks them down for the time when real social interaction comes... TLDR: Next time someone asks you anything regarding you having a phone, tell them "I don't like phones so I don't have one.". they will probobaly ask why. Tell them- "staring at a screen bores me". Thats cool as ****. I don't care what the other graalians have to say against me. They are all phone nerds. Even I like my phone, but I definetely notice its quirks and I enjoy going throughout my day without checking it or using it. Money suggestions? Try offering 8/hr tutoring if you really know your stuff. Or learn magic. Ask people in downtown areas to bet you a couple dollars that you cannot do something. Use your magic, and win. Rinse and repeat and you can make normal wage money doing this. |

512 MB of RAM will be your main problem. So will the 1.3GHZ processor if it's single core. You could get better for cheaper. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a great phone. Even after a year and a half, it still runs snappy and smooth. Some specs of the I747 model are listed below (different models may have better or equal specs). - 1.5GHZ Duel Core Processor - 1.56GB of RAM - 16 GB internal storage (SD Card slot included, up to 64GB) - 4.9 inch screen size - Sturdy (my opinion) - Removable battery, could increase the battery up to 7000MAH. - Runs Android 4.4.2 - Keyboard is responsive unlike other android ones |

If 1+ gets their act back together, I would go for it; but I'm still leaning towards saving for the HTC One (m8), Moto X, or Nexus 6 instead. |
