Worth learning gs1?

Is it really worth learning gs1? Or is gscript 2 the best thing to learn?..

Cat612 12-21-2011 04:32 AM

GS2 definitely. GS1 is virtually useless now.

callimuc 12-21-2011 12:52 PM

GS1 is good if you plan to develop on Graal Reborn or make your personal world inside the offline editor. Else for Server Developing on the official Graal start GS2

Azrael 12-21-2011 02:01 PM

GS2. GS1 does not work anymore and is crappy.

Only reason to learn GS1 is if you wanna go live on Graal Reborn, but you don't wanna do that so learn GS2.

What is gs1/gs2 for?
And is there any good guide for learning it?

Mine is:
Learn to know what GS1/2 is and THAN you should be willing to learn it ^^

Well GS1/2 is Graals scripting language. GS1 is the old one. A few years ago Graal released a new "version" which is more complex and easier. GS2 is also running on every server while GS1 is just working partly. The only good ways to use GS1 is on GraalReborn for development (well donīt ask) or for the offline editor, in case you want to make your own offline world. For PC development learn GS2

PS: GS means GraalScript

AlexTress 12-21-2011 08:13 PM

No? Someone is/was making a new server (gserver or npcserver not sure I always mix it) with itīs own scripting language.

You can do loads of stuff with GS1. GUIs, Games, Systems, etc.

Lol, I think I'll just stick with Python, since I'm kind of new.. It's freeware too.

GS1 for Graal Reborn
GS2 for Graal Online

GS1 can be ran in the offline GraalEditor and some functions and concepts carry over into GS2 but it's better to stick to a language like Python as it has so much more documentation than GS1 and GS2 do and much bigger community attached to it.

Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, VB.NET, C#.NET are all good choices for people new to programming/scripting. Basic programming concepts you learn in Python are used in other languages too except with a different syntax.

When you're confident in your ability to program try one of the other languages I suggested above and even try GS2. I've written a fairly in-depth guide here:
