Christmas Competition! (2015)
 

Howdy!

Ol' West will be hosting its 2nd Christmas Competition for players to earn some HS/Gralats/and their item (if used)!


If your graphics are chosen and used then you will be rewarded as so:

- All hats used will receive 2,500 Gralats + their hat on your account.
- Any melee's or guns that are used will receive 1 HS, 5,000 Gralats, and the weapon. You may submit multiple weapons but you will still only receive 1 HS, but your gralats may stack up.
- Furniture will receive 3,000 G each.
- Morphs will receive 5,000 G each. (Added to your account as well.)
- Mounts will receive 10,000 G and 1 HS. (Added to your account as well.)

Any STOLEN graphics will be disqualified.

Please include your GraalID# in the email subject. This can be found in the feedback tab located on the menu. If your GraalID# isn't listed then your item will not be used.
So your subject would be Graal000233 - Xmas Competition
All submissions must be sent to [email protected].

Deadline: December 23, 2015.

Please keep in mind that if you submit a gun or a melee to have it Christmas themed, otherwise it will not be used.

Must the palette be used?

If you want to use it then you can, but not for this one. (Suggested if you have a hard time at choosing colors.)

Indeed. But dont put stuff like a freakin football helmet or something in it lmao. I'd suggest the hats be themed but other things arent required.

I thought all graphics on the server were supposed to match the palette? With the exception of custom heads, bodies, etc.

True but with exceptions it's fine. I'll be the judge of that (if the colors on it needs a change or not.)

So you can use other colors which is not used in the palette?

I'd advise you to use the colors in the palette only if you have a hard time at choosing colors.

Reason I didnt post this one is because it doesn't have all the sprites, so you'll need to add the missing ones in.

i will use the template for the most part, but not for all because some do not have the shades i want

Greetings, Shiz!

I'm a pretty cautious person when it comes to work, so I hope you don't mind asking a few things... I'm sure the following questions will benefit everyone.

1:
Do we or do we not have to follow the color palette?

Is the color palette simply a commutiny guideline or is it much deeper? Aka the set of colors embedded into the Graal server, otherwise rendering any other color unusable?

Because simply, if there is no color restriction, then I'm going to go HAM and use 50 shades of grey to render my GFX.

2:
This was not clear on the Halloween competition, so I'd like to know for certain this time... Can we use transparency or not?

3:
Do our items have to be outlined in black? Can we outline them in other dark colors, say if someone was to do a candy cane and outlined it in dark red and dark grey?... And if that even, then do they have to have a cartoon outlining at all?

4:
I saw GFX types listed: hats, morphs, weapons etc BUT can we also submit novelty items?- toys- balls- juggles etc?

50 Shades of still confused.
 

Okay last bit about the transparency that I don't quite understand.

If this is an option, then we could literally blend colors to make a zillion different new colors... thus, putting us pretty much back at square one: don't use the palette.

Even if you were to restrict transparency to only being painted directly on canvas- this would eliminate color blending of course, but you could still slap down 50 shades of shadow.

I think I'm looking for a 100% solid "do or not do" if that's okay.

I hope these questions help define your guidelines for future GFX enteries.

lol the rules kinda seem to be changing on the colours if using palette or not..So best advice to people making stuff is:


You have like lot more chance of getting your stuff ingame if you just use the palette colours (most of the items etc ongame use it!)

So I'd suggest you just use it(exact colour not shade of -thats different colour) reason they have palette is so pretty much everything has same sceme all the way through the game giving it more of a professional finish and makes look alot cleaner.

I always, and I suggest the same to everyone, screenshot a few frames of Ol West and pop them in your graphics program as a background to design your items over. I mean, if being or not being restricted by the palette is only a matter of proper color integration, then I'd rather take my chances and use a million colors.

My main beef is that the palette only allows for heavy contrast e.i. approximately 3-5 shades of a color.

Perhaps, since this whole palette thing seems to be up in the air, we use the base palette colors, and if we need to further blend from "light, medium, dark", we use the same color and dim or lighten it to our needs: "light, mid-light, medium, mid-dark, dark"...?

Because, basically (if you study the palette) that's all I feel we're missing is that touch of extra bend or blur to make things seem a little less square.

But hey- whatever Shiz says. I have my mouse ready to go whenever we get final word.

personally i use the palette is a base guidline. its not completely restricted to ONLY using the colors on the palette. if i need in-between colors i'll modify the colors shades but i use the palette as my main color base.

So, Slick! You have used colors outside of the palette before? Did the color of your items appear in-game as you intended?

yes any colors will appear in game as intended as long as they are not pure black or white.

:) yeah its from storror. if you are not familiar with storror i highly recommend checking out their videos even if you aren't into parkour.

it looks great but im going to go ahead right now and warn you not having close to black or black outlines does not look very good in graal because everything else in the game is outlined in black, so something that is not outlined will not fit in very well.
