It's been almost a week now and there hasn't been a sign of server side lag? What's happening? 2016 = the end of lag?

The player count is pretty much the same, it's not like half the player base just completely stopped logging in.

Yeah the lag has gone down, even when there's 4000 players online. Nobody knows why and the server hasn't been upgraded. Enjoy it while it lasts, I guess!

I saw stefan's account on earlier. Did he come back or something? Or was it someone else on his acc? Maybe he is the new dev that will clean up the server?

Maybe removing the "randomlook" command helped out?

The player's account name was stefan123, when you open profile it's unknown.

The thing was that he was on, but it also said that the account has been off for 170 days, plus on friends list it shows that he is above a player with less than 24 hours offline.

Has nothing to do with randomlook(it has been enabled for about two weeks now) or not being able to see players(most of those areas were removed after Christmas break). The changes made to those do not correlate to the increase in server performance.

Servers were at 95-100% cpu during holiday times even when the server playercount was at 3500 players, 90+% when there were over 3000 players. Now at 4000 players the server cpu is only clocking in around 85%.

Lotta people's houses did seem to get extremely laggy with over 300 presents in them

Nah it lagged before Christmas as well. Weekends were pretty bad as far as performance goes.

Maybe I'll start farming again. Couldn't do that during christmas week. If there is less lag, I'll let you know. I'd have to wait for 4k people though, because there were huge fire breath delay times.

It was lagging a few hours ago, stopped after a while tho. Every few min it got bad and people kept respawning where they died in MoD and menus wouldn't load. Only 3600 were on during this time.

we were updating a core script (6~ hours ago) a few times that tends to "freeze" the server for a minute or two each time we do so.

I've seen slight like spikes but I will say it definitely is improved in the past couple days. Could be that holidays are over but definitely noticeable. Today is lagged a bit but nothing like what is was 2 weeks ago.

Oh don't worry, it's still there. 4k+ players online earlier and I was walking into empty rooms, being ported to unstuck me for "trying to enter an off-limits area" (despite not doing anything of the sort), and even being warped to lag island a couple times (and it wasn't exactly lonely there either).

However, I will say that it does seem as though the game as a whole is functioning better even with the high player count. I noticed some tweaks that made baddies (pyrats and bandits) much easier to kill, despite the crowded server. It was registering my hits even when the baddies were glitching (which definitely would happen a lot). Could just be my imagination, but something seemed smoother.

Server is still crying for an upgrade, but the devs are doing a good job at keeping the game running not too shabby at 4k+ player count.

The latest performance issues doesn't really have anything to do with the actual server performance like it has in the past.

Before the server was having performance issues via high CPU usage. As more players logged on, the CPU usage got higher and higher and peaked at 100%. Once it hit around the 95%+ range the server started experiencing lots of issues and lag.

The CPU usage isn't an issue currently, and therefor the issues with lag don't really have anything to do with what was causing the lag everyone is familiar with in the past.

There is still definitely a lot of lag. To the point where the game freezes for more than a few mins. I check the map, but player count doesn't show up so :P

Server probably crashed, because then the player count shows up and it says 2900, and then jumps straight to 3500+

Sadly it's not really an "island" anymore. Just a patch of water. There used to be an island there. You get warped there sometimes when something glitchy happens. Happens more frequently when there's a lot of lag.

It's one of the lesser-known areas of the game. Like the jail for temp-banned players (which has long since been removed, but oh what a fun time it was..).
