Weight Loss
Since there's no Fitness sections I'll put it here.
Hi. I'm starting a weight loss journey this week. My goal is to lose 15 pounds cause I'm overweight asf my doctor says. I'm currently 5'3 feet tall, and I weigh 130 pounds. My BMI is 23. I've lost two pounds so far this week, by cutting down on calories (I have a bad binging problem) and speed walking ever day for 30-45 minutes. I have an app called Lose It! That's helping me track exercise and calories. Basically, what I'm asking you Fitness gurus, is am I on the right track for weight loss?? My goal is not to beef up right now, but to simply lose weight. |
I have the exact opposite problem.
I get too lazy to eat or cook. Like I don't have any motivation at all, I mean... I could be on the internet or drawing or whatever, ykno. But my doc said I'm underweight and my mom gets mad at me for not eating enough. If you have any advice on how to gain weight, that'd be great, or how to like "get hungry". The only time I get hyped for food is for a sour bowl of salad with a lot of lemon juice and it's not helping me at all. I can't really suggest you much besides getting lazy and sleeping whenever you can... sry. |
130 lbs isn't that bad.

how old are you? how many calories are you taking in per day? do you have a breakdown of protein/carbs/fat?

Because of a change in lifestyle you are gonna shed some weight quickly at the start, it will slow down after you get used to this, don't let that discourage you. 0.5 lb a week would be a good rate to lose weight. protein/carbs/fat are the other three big macronutrients, "macros", that your body takes in. Crono is asking if you are also recording those as well, which you definitely should be. I'm not gonna say I know more than your doctor, but you are probably "okay" weight wise. I'm not saying don't take this seriously, or don't worry about your body; but don't rush losing weight, its something that happens in a very predictable manner if you know what you are doing, and since you are thinking about this at such a young age you are off to a phenomenal start. |

I'll try to not let it get to me, once I start losing weight slower! I'll start recording those as well!! Thank you for replying, it means a lot <3 |

I had like these shake things I would drink after meals. You could try something like that Vici. |
768 calories a day? Thats way too low, I have more than that for breakfast (though I probably need to eat a lot more than you do)

*calorie burning tip-drink a glass or 2 of water before you sleep, try to sleep in complete darkness and leave a fan on, make room as cool as possible. |

I'm drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day btw. Wow ****, sorry to tell my sap story. |
****, if that's the case then forget losing weight.
130 lbs for 5'3 is NOT bad at all. Health over appearance. I'm around 125 lbs and almost 6 ft, I'M A ****ING TWIG GODDAMNIT. |

**** I regret making this thread |
Oh, drink some more milk -.-
Work out if you want but if you focus too much on losing weight too much the idea will consume you and ruin your life. |

Oh and sorry I assumed you were a girl due to the avatar and the "starving". Weird to see a guy "starve" themselves to lose weight. |

I feel like this had become an intervention, really guys I'm just trying to get down a few pounds from my own health. I just ate dinner, I'm not skipping any meals, I'm gonna start eating more, I'll be fine!!

You are throwing in a bunch of information that does have correlation to health and weight loss, but it isn't causation. Yes you should drink lots of water (tbh only water), and exercise but that's true even if you are trying to gain weight. |

Exercise and eat well. Remove junk completely from your fridge and lifestyle. Have friends and family motivate you on your journey because it's not only a physical effort but mentally as well. Listen and follow Simon's tips. Personally I have a food journal to keep on record what I consume and my progress. Good luck on your journey!

I don't see a problem with your BMI as long as your weight has been consistent through out the years. If you really want to work out, I suggest going by your body fat percentage rather than body mass index. Also from my experience, dieting is probably the least helpful way to lose weight. If you're just trying to be healthier, try eating PFC balanced meals(like the others have suggested) rather than limiting yourself to calories. Working out & eating right should be something you enjoy so just try to do what you like otherwise you'll just end up giving up on it. The only tip I can give you is to change up your routine. Walking is fine, but don't try to speed walk everyday just because you want to lose weight. Change it up, and try other light/moderate activities once in awhile too :)!

Tbh I enjoy walking/jogging a lot, so it's easy for me to exercise. I'm a **** eater so eating healthy is a problem for me, but I'm incorporating more fruits/veggies into my diet and cutting out things like sodas and candy. Thank you for your advice!!! <3 |

oh, and Mangsi, While I shouldn't(and can't) give out advice about eating do's and Dont's, if you run a lot, make sure to bike or do some knee strengthening exercises. You don't have to, but just pay attention to your knee health! Chances are you'll be fine now, but you wanna treat your knees right either way. |
If your doc told you that, I would totally ignore every ****posting reply here. Except mine and Sirs.

i was gonna chime in and give advice but i dont know enough to try to tell a 13 year old what's good/bad. i also dont know if you're a boy or a girl, which does change things. all i can say is that BMI is bull**** and shouldn't really be used. go by what you see in the mirror imo, unless your doctor has a way of measuring bodyfat %. |
I'm 6,2 and about 70kg with 10% fat, just work hard :)

I forgot to mention, I'm on two different meds that cause weight gain as a side affect. One also stops growth as a side affect, so I'm not supposed to grow any taller than 5'4. I don't use BMI, neither does my doc. I love what I see in the mirror. So I'm only doing this for physical health. |
Oh implement yoga into your routines. Helps prevent injuries and gets you relaxed.
