Weight Loss

Since there's no Fitness sections I'll put it here.

Hi. I'm starting a weight loss journey this week. My goal is to lose 15 pounds cause I'm overweight asf my doctor says. I'm currently 5'3 feet tall, and I weigh 130 pounds. My BMI is 23.
I've lost two pounds so far this week, by cutting down on calories (I have a bad binging problem) and speed walking ever day for 30-45 minutes. I have an app called Lose It! That's helping me track exercise and calories.

Basically, what I'm asking you Fitness gurus, is am I on the right track for weight loss??

My goal is not to beef up right now, but to simply lose weight.

Vicipower 03-09-2016 08:29 PM

I have the exact opposite problem.
I get too lazy to eat or cook. Like I don't have any motivation at all, I mean... I could be on the internet or drawing or whatever, ykno. But my doc said I'm underweight and my mom gets mad at me for not eating enough.

If you have any advice on how to gain weight, that'd be great, or how to like "get hungry". The only time I get hyped for food is for a sour bowl of salad with a lot of lemon juice and it's not helping me at all.
I can't really suggest you much besides getting lazy and sleeping whenever you can... sry.

130 lbs isn't that bad.

how old are you? how many calories are you taking in per day? do you have a breakdown of protein/carbs/fat?

I'm 13, about 768 a day, and idk what that is, I'm new to fitness and health and stuff.

That is insanely low, especially if you are excercising. Most "cuts" sit around 1000-1200. So unless your doctor recommended that number I'd recommend bumping it up a bit. Which I know may seem weird, but if you want to keep that weight from coming back, this will be a lifestyle.

Because of a change in lifestyle you are gonna shed some weight quickly at the start, it will slow down after you get used to this, don't let that discourage you. 0.5 lb a week would be a good rate to lose weight.

protein/carbs/fat are the other three big macronutrients, "macros", that your body takes in. Crono is asking if you are also recording those as well, which you definitely should be.

I'm not gonna say I know more than your doctor, but you are probably "okay" weight wise. I'm not saying don't take this seriously, or don't worry about your body; but don't rush losing weight, its something that happens in a very predictable manner if you know what you are doing, and since you are thinking about this at such a young age you are off to a phenomenal start.

I'm eating all the calories I burn, so 768 is my baseline. If I burn 150 calories I'll eat it all back. But I'll bump it up to about 1k.

I'll try to not let it get to me, once I start losing weight slower!

I'll start recording those as well!!
Thank you for replying, it means a lot <3

Same problem man, you just gotta eat whether you feel like it or not.

Tips:
  • Spread your meals out through the day, its very hard to get all your macros in if you missed breakfast and didn't have a large lunch. Full 3 meals everyday as a minimum.
  • Make food in bulk. If cooking is your problem do a weeks worth of it one night. Makes it really easy.
  • Eat tastier food. You will eat a lot more when you are enjoying yourself.

Zetectic 03-09-2016 10:21 PM

i run everyday 9-10pm, except on rainy, snowy days etc
on excused days, i tried to do gym exercise, but im just never motivated.
so i purchased 'just dance now' song pack. hopefully this helps better.

Eating 750 calories aday Is the reason your not losing weigh, you need to drink alot of water and exercise if you want to lose weight. Your body goes into like a hibernation mode when you don't eat the necessary amount of calories aday, trust me I tried losing weigh by not eating much and I gained weight somehow. I used to have a bad metabolism because I would never exercise and drink atleas 8 glasses of water aday. Now I can eat for days and not gain fat or weigh.(went from 195 too 175).

*calorie burning tip-drink a glass or 2 of water before you sleep, try to sleep in complete darkness and leave a fan on, make room as cool as possible.

I wen through a period of serious disordered eating, where I was eating lesss than 250 calories a day, and I lost 10 pounds in two weeks(honestly it happened), so that burned the idea into my mind that the only way to lose weigh is by starvation. I'm working on fixing it, but it'll take time.

I'm drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day btw.

Wow ****, sorry to tell my sap story.

Except she has been losing weight, shes lost 2 pounds in less than a week so far. What im worried about is the 768 calories, that is unhealthy, she should be eating at least twice that. 2 pounds a week is too much to lose in a week, it should be like 1 pound(although I just remember hearing this im not a doctor)

Ive never heard of this, did you actually count your calories or were you just guessing you didn't eat a lot? I've noticed people really just dont count calories and think "I regularly eat entire pizzas in one sitting and dont gain weight so my metabolism must be great"(really its just that pizza was one of the only things they ate that day and they really didnt consume more calories than normal) or "Ive ate nothing but a salad and some fries, why havent I lost weight?"(really its becuase they put a crapton of ranch and the salad plus fries was really 1200 calories)

Same here, what I did was start out my day with a shake that has about 700 calories of crap in it(almonds, milk, banana, ice cream, peanut butter) and 2 tangerines. Adds up to about 900 calories, I used to pretty much skip breakfast but so far ive stuck with it and have gained a few pounds.

The only time I've ever eaten more then 1500 calories is when I'm on a bing streak. I've always been a picky eater, so I've never gotten much food in me otherwise.

This is not true in anyway. If you "aren't eating much" and you gain weight, you're still eating too much. tracking weight loss/gain is as simple as macros in vs. out. If you eat 700 calories a day and you gain weight, your metabolism doesn't suck, your math does. If you want to lose weight you need to consume less calories, there is nothing else to it. It isn't water intake or exercise.

You are throwing in a bunch of information that does have correlation to health and weight loss, but it isn't causation. Yes you should drink lots of water (tbh only water), and exercise but that's true even if you are trying to gain weight.

Exercise and eat well. Remove junk completely from your fridge and lifestyle. Have friends and family motivate you on your journey because it's not only a physical effort but mentally as well. Listen and follow Simon's tips. Personally I have a food journal to keep on record what I consume and my progress. Good luck on your journey!

I don't see a problem with your BMI as long as your weight has been consistent through out the years. If you really want to work out, I suggest going by your body fat percentage rather than body mass index. Also from my experience, dieting is probably the least helpful way to lose weight. If you're just trying to be healthier, try eating PFC balanced meals(like the others have suggested) rather than limiting yourself to calories. Working out & eating right should be something you enjoy so just try to do what you like otherwise you'll just end up giving up on it. The only tip I can give you is to change up your routine. Walking is fine, but don't try to speed walk everyday just because you want to lose weight. Change it up, and try other light/moderate activities once in awhile too :)!

Tbh I enjoy walking/jogging a lot, so it's easy for me to exercise. I'm a **** eater so eating healthy is a problem for me, but I'm incorporating more fruits/veggies into my diet and cutting out things like sodas and candy.

Yes but isn't sugar intake a crucial factor to weight gain as well? I'm pretty sure if you consume the wrong amount of fats and the wrong amount of sugar you will most likely gain weight, as sugar activates fats or something like that. Some kind of metabolic pathway and osmosis ****.

Yes absolutely. However most people don't consume enough sugar to be able to gain weight at a 1000 cal deficit. If you are dieting you should be cutting a lot of things that are heavy in sugar those; stuff like soda, candy, snack food should pretty much be totally removed from your diet. That may sound awful if you love snacks but I can personally say that you feel so much better and cleaner without that stuff, its worth it.

Still 6"7 and 145 pounds. I used to be very concerned with my weight, not as much anymore though. I eat enough, probably 4 meals a day. Considering im mostly a runner my weight works well for me, still have been told I should gain weight though. Not sure I could gain weight if I tried.

oh, and Mangsi, While I shouldn't(and can't) give out advice about eating do's and Dont's, if you run a lot, make sure to bike or do some knee strengthening exercises. You don't have to, but just pay attention to your knee health! Chances are you'll be fine now, but you wanna treat your knees right either way.

Born a girl.
