Is Windows 10 Ready for Gaming?

So at the end of next month, Windows 10 is no longer free, and I'd rather die than pay for windows 10. I've been using Windows 7 since I built my PC 3 years ago, and I'm probably going to end up upgrading. But my question is what are your experiences with Windows 10 and gaming. Good? Bad? I've got Win10 ready on a USB to install when I need.

No piracy allowed I heard

metal 06-16-2016 01:43 PM

It was never not ready for gaming, ive been using it since launch with no problems besides the random restart for updates, **** you Microsoft.

windows 10 sometimes messes up your graphic card and you have to back up your computer again

My only problem i've had so far with Windows 10 is I once had to system restore my laptop as (I think) there was some sort of conflict issue between a Win10 update and my boot driver (dunno if I said that right, had to get a friend irl to help sort it)

Besides that, I really like Windows 10, and think it's worth

Crono 06-16-2016 04:09 PM

i honestly like windows 7 the best but 10 > 8

Microsoft spies on you on Windows 10 by recording every key you press.
Though you can use 3rd party programs to stop them from spying you.

I'm pretty sure you're hyperbolizing there. As far as I know, Windows 10 only cares about Cortana stuff when it comes to privacy. Besides, you can opt out of Cortana.

Might as well stop using Google and Android as well if you're truly concerned about your privacy.

All of this can be turned off via settings.

Only gaming problem I've had with Win10 gaming is with my World of Warcraft zoom being all wonky.

Oh and some **** with the Commandos series, but who plays that?

Better than Windows 8's ******ed UI.

I think Windows 10 is adequate for gaming but I have been getting some strange driver issues as of late and don't know if its a hardware problem or something else.

PigParty 06-17-2016 01:49 AM

I hope it's good. Never used it before, but I'm getting forza horizon 3 for it and potentially other games.

I'm gonna back up everything important anyway, but what is the chance of everything being wiped? I have an SSD and a HDD

It doesn't touch your personal files, so if something goes wrong you can recover anything important off of the drives.

I dont understand why people didnt want to upgrade to windows 10. Never had a problem with it. Can someone explaine?

the minority probably have software that ****s up on windows 10. prime example here being graal.

for the most part folks are just being stubborn.

1. Microsoft has been extremely aggressive in regards to updating people to 10 and many people have walked away and came back to their machine running/installing 10.
2. The 10 upgrade isn't always 100% compatible. I've seen laptops wireless cards get crippled because their software-based wireless switch software quit working and wasn't compatible with 10 or the drivers provided by 10.
3. Windows Updates (including drivers) are forced under 10.
4. The privacy-minded don't care for all the telemetry in 10 which was also back-ported to 7.

PigParty 06-19-2016 12:21 PM

Windows 7 was my favorite. Windows 10 is a hell of a lot better than windows 8. Windows 10 is still pretty good imo. The force updates really do piss me off, though. I ****ing had it force update while I was typing an essay, and I hadn't set Word to auto save frequently enough, and I lost the whole damn thing.

captainhaxs 06-19-2016 06:01 PM

to avoid it restarting randomly i have a powershell script running in the background constantly running the abort shutdown command. Jk :p

Chelterrar 06-20-2016 06:28 PM

I never experienced any problems with Windows 10, honestly most people just think it's so bad cause of Windows 8 reputation. But I really don't regret ever to upgrade for free :P

The points fp4 made are legit but im pleased with 10 overall.

PigParty 06-20-2016 09:57 PM

Well, cortana does suck, but I just leave that alone anyways. In fact, I only use that to quick-search an app, or do quick math. :)

Lambda 06-21-2016 12:36 PM

I have been using the Windows 10 Insider preview for a while and I didn't like it, not because of 'botnet' or all, but probably I'm too used to Windows 7, loving the new W10 preview start menu though, and my miniscule library of games still works after upgrading, not gonna revert back or anything.

I made the update and couldn't open Windows Menu back in 2015. Right now, the only thing that pisses me off is the freeze when I right-click something. Have to wait for Windows to fix it, but I am a Linux user anyway.

You probably have some broken shell extensions, use a tool to get rid of them or just Reset Windows 10 and reinstall your programs.

Already used tools, nothing fixed it. I don't want to reinstall Windows 10, because I just use it for Graal and games.
