Bracket Contest for 2016 Alumni SST

Sarah wanted to host a tournament between past/present Alumni members, so we set up a bracket of 16: http://challonge.com/alumni2016

http://puu.sh/sGCvL/ad3ac9cf21.png

It'll be on on Saturday, December 17th @ 3pm EST in Sarah's guild house. Everyone will show up and we'll run through the bracket just like the GST.
James should be streaming it on his Twitch channel, and Zetectic sent me a PM so he might be around to make edits for YouTube.

Winner will get €100 in iTunes, generously offered by Sarah. We're also going to have a bracket predictions contest, sort of like a March Madness thing. I don't have too many ideas for a prize yet, but right now I'm willing to give 10 Christmas gifts to whoever wins. We'll probably come up with something more, but for now just consider it to be for bragging rights.

You can fill out a bracket here: http://challonge.com/tournaments/303...redictions/new
You can see all of the submitted brackets here: http://challonge.com/alumni2016/predictions
You don't need an account to create a bracket, but you might need one to edit your picks after you've submitted. You can create an account here: https://challonge.com/users/new

I'll update the bracket live as the tournament progresses. Scoring is pretty simple:
  • 1 point for a correct first round prediction
  • 2 points for a correct second round prediction
  • 4 points for a correct semifinals prediction
  • 8 points for a correct finals prediction
You don't have to predict a score, just the winner of the match. Put your name in the bracket's title and/or post a link to your bracket here if you want to enter the contest. You don't have to. If two people pick the exact same bracket and it ends up having the highest score, we'll just give the win to the person who submitted their bracket first. It's a small tournament, so there will probably be duplicate brackets.

This is supposed to just be a fun holiday thing for Alumni, but we're trying to get others involved and maybe show staff that there's interest in an official singles tournament. Thanks in advance to anyone who shows up to watch and to Sarah for the idea and prize offering.

Zetectic 12-07-2016 12:27 AM

That Challonge prediction thing is awesome. Never knew that kind of system existed.

I will, if you allow, record along with James. I can't do any fancy stuff like James does, but I'll try this damage done/received thing on the video. It'll be manual edits though lol.

I'm saying Dante takes it, coming around to beat Thallen in his challonge hosted tournament after suffering a defeat in his own. He'll defeat David in the finals... Predicting a few upsets(Blaze advances past Shaheen, RM takes out brett).

My predictions

Relic 12-07-2016 03:58 AM

Predictions since I'm (ironically) too lazy to link it:

Round 1 Winners:
Thallen, Abood, Alexx, Dante, David, Skull, Shaheen, Brett

Round 2 Winners:
Thallen, Dante, David, Brett

Round 3 Winners:
Thallen, Brett

Round 4 Winner:
Brett

Gets hard in round 3 for obvious reasons...

I was asked by a few if I'll commentate with James so: likely not as I'll be on vacation with slow internet and I'm pretty sure I'm going to a concert on that date/time. If I can be around I will be though.

Alex R 12-07-2016 09:30 AM

Pretty cool , hopefully if it goes well maybe it'll open up the possibility of Admin hosted single spar tournaments just so give us something else than gst during the season

Droid 12-07-2016 10:13 PM

Overall, I think mine is statistically safe on who reliably performs, so if there is a major upset I'm doomed aha

Thallen 12-08-2016 11:54 PM

thanks to everyone who filled out brackets so far, kinda surprised that not a single one has an iDevice player winning yet (or at least I think?)
would probably be much different if Sarah chose to participate though

there might be, guild houses usually feel less laggy than the rest of the game, not sure why
you can ask Sarah for an invite on the 17th if you wanna record videos or anything

Guildhouse/playerhouse instances might be hosted on a separate server. It's Graal though so probably not.

David 12-13-2016 01:49 PM

tourney moved to 1:30PM EST btw

Thallen 12-14-2016 06:49 PM

Sarah is hosting this so any questions will have to go to her, the time is being changed from 4pm EST to 1:30pm EST like David said though

I probably won't be online from now until maybe an hour before the tournament, so I'm not sure if people are being replaced and whatnot - brackets will end up being mostly useless if that's the case

This seems pretty accurate tho I haven't seen Sugar, Abood, John, Haze, Jack, Shaheen, and Blaze spar. Also I would probably switch Aguzo with Dante since he seems more hard IMO at least

EP 12-14-2016 09:04 PM

Always vote for the underdog. Haze gots this

Thallen 12-17-2016 04:20 PM

should be starting in around 2 hours
haze said he'd probably not make it and Dante said he might show up late, just a heads up

I'll update the bracket live but everything else is being handled by Sarah

David 12-17-2016 08:51 PM

was fun ggs all

Thallen 12-17-2016 08:57 PM

I updated the bracket with the results so I won't spoil it here for anyone
Not sure if James is making videos out of them, but the VoD is on his Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/205tv/v/108089831

It was very laggy but surprisingly it seemed to hurt the players who delayed more than others
Two people had near-perfect brackets, getting only Skull vs. Jack wrong (Skull didn't appear)

Void submitted his bracket first so he won: http://challonge.com/tournaments/303...ictions/103817
I'll send you your 10 gifts sometime soon (feel free to remind me if I forgot by the 20th)

Thanks a lot to Sarah for hosting it and offering the prize
I hope these get hosted a lot more, even if people do guild-only ones

It was laggy from beginning but as soon as admins started hosting events weird stuff started happening. I've seen those weird freezes before but never as much as I did today (infact I think I've only seen it happen 3 times before ever and it happened like 5 times during the tourney). Lots of stuff going on so I figured it would be pretty laggy. Still fun though

Also the black screen issue happened on stream, it's incredibly annoying.

Im pretty sure fp4 has something to do with this, maybe thallen is fp4- who knows?

In all seriousness though, isn't guild house spar supposed to be more stable? I don't think it was the events though. It's the first saturday of winter break for a lot of people, so the server was at 4.2k+

Probably right and most likely a coincidence when I noticed it. I just remember after the first weird freeze and looking up to events being held and after that point it went down the pooper.

Most likely just because of xmas event stuff

Don't get me wrong, David is good, but brett was sparring a lot better, until the server went crazy.
First freeze was in the 2nd round, and it didn't affect much, cause they were both away from each other by a fair distance. The 2nd one was at the start of the 5th, and it started to freeze more often from that point on.
http://freegifmaker.me/video/1482025292109254.gif

People wanted to watch a brett vs thallen match, including me.

David 12-18-2016 06:57 AM

Damn yea man it sucks badd, it's not like Brett and I were seeing pretty much the exact same things on our screen lag-wise. It especially sucks that the match where I flawed him has essentially 0 lag whatsoever.

No clutch at all, entirely luck. You're totally right Aguzo, I got completely lucky by 1 hit where I won by 1 HP anyways.. Not to mention you're trying to pass off two different matches as one, you can see the score difference in both of them.

Brett did good, but if you're saying I didn't do better then you're just sucking his ****. Go eat a ****. I don't even know why I'm acknowledging a round 1 loser. GG.

Relax man, I didn't say it was laggy every match. I just said it started to freeze a lot more often, starting at the 5th round.

I couldn't even connect to the game, until it was 4-4, so I have no idea if it was really that laggy in person. I'm just expressing my loser opinion based on what I see in James' video. Mostly everyone has you going for the most amazing clutch in spar history, so it shouldn't matter what a loser thinks.

Areo 12-18-2016 07:55 AM

David vs. Brett was probably the highlight of the tourney, since the final match didn't bring anything new to the table, not that it wasn't good.

I think that it's fair to say that Thallen-David-Brett are all on similar spar levels... All of their series came down to a 0.5 vs 0.5. If that isn't close I don't know what is. It was a fun watch, huge props to Sarah for organizing it and for running it extremely smoothly(at least when I started watching, which was Brett Vs. Shaheen). But either way, congrats to Thallen for winning and to David for being runner up. That's all that really matters in the end.

Oh yeah and thanks for streaming it 205.
