Whatever happened to the 3d shop?

I remember in 2014 or so, there was this 3d shop where you could buy some grall figurines. what happened to it? why did it get removed?

4-Lom 01-13-2017 08:36 PM

We don't talk about that.

SomeGuy 01-13-2017 08:43 PM

Probably got removed because what sad twat is gonna have a mini statue of their in game character on display in their home?

Well id only have one...

Just kidding id have 500

Pretty sure no one bought them so they stopped offering it... or it was a partnership like Air Asia and they stopped offering the service when the partnership ended?

Advent 01-13-2017 09:27 PM

who would want a 2d plastic figurine of their 2d graal character

Colin 01-13-2017 09:31 PM

I'd purchase one right now if the option was available.

Weeno 01-13-2017 09:55 PM

I thought all u can buy was the noob, blue hair guy, and some other girl

Bram- 01-13-2017 09:55 PM

I mean I also would like to have a figure of my ingame character of a game I've been playing for years

It generated too much revenue so they decided to shut it down

Snow Noob 01-13-2017 10:02 PM

I think when the shop was on-going it wasn't custom characters though. Only starter characters I think were available, like Weeno said.

I once made a clay version of my character. It was really fun and cool. If the shop was brought back and we could purchase ones that looked like our characters I would totally buy one as well.

Weeno 01-14-2017 03:51 PM

Just imagine my lemon character being a figure. (take off the bow)

I'd buy one, don't have the money though rn

Yog 01-14-2017 08:20 PM

It was through some 3D printing company. There were 3 or 4 options to choose from at most. I remember one of them being the default brown hair girl head.

Pretty sure they were asking an absurd price for shipping because it was overseas from the US.

If they did that, then they probably would have still not made a profit. It wasn't even advertised that much.

I think the basic nub figurine was more of a test to see how many/if anyone would buy a figurine. Being unsure about how many people would actually buy them resulted in them taking a much safer road.

If they had the money, maybe a set amount of pre-orders, then they could invest in 3D printers, and have the custom figurines for a slightly higher price. They could have a lot more options with a 3d printer for their figurines. Positions such as the sword slash, sitting, etc.

Example of a 3d printed figurine.

@Aguzo It was through a middle man that took a portion of their sales.

What I'm saying is that there wasn't that much market for them to do this, and the lack of options (just a basic nub figure) really lowered it for them.

I think companies offer 3d printing services, so people can just make/buy their own. Prices are around $80 - $100 though.

They could probably sell t-shirts, hats, beanies, etc. But again, you have to know if people will actually buy them.

Zetectic 01-14-2017 11:51 PM

They didn't allow customization cuz they can't convert 2D character to 3D.
And the price of a tiny figurine started from $35 including taxes. Idk about the shipping fee tho

Ryan 01-14-2017 11:59 PM

they looked nothing like graal characters

There are print on demand sites that could be used to even sell a few or a few thousand... but it would take monitoring and attention from a dedicated administrator to handle orders...

It wouldn't be too hard to generate a 3d "blue print" with side view, front view, and back view... but the results may be chunky, square, and otherwise not look good from other angles.

We're representin' with the largest figurine.

Zetectic 01-15-2017 04:45 AM

No joke. I have a vivid memory of visiting a Samsung store in Manhattan and they actually had a Graal (Fung Si Yan) Figurine displayed in one of their wall display cases. Like in 2015.

I am pretty positive that I took a picture of it, but changed to iphone and never saved a backup of my old crappy android phone.

that's what i am saying. it wouldn't matter if it was just pixelish, but when front and side view doesn't match at all (99% of graal heads) and will end up just looking weird.

Thallen 01-15-2017 04:55 AM

the whole idea was completely pointless for the fact that they wouldn't allow you to print customized characters, why even call it "3D printing" in that case… they weren't live printing anything, they were just selling Graal figurines
